And maybe that is exactly why he hasn't put someone over in that event yet. Every year they don't do it, it makes it that much bigger. Looking at the roster, I'm not exactly sure who you allow to do that. you could let CM Punk do it to cement his legacy, but the 400+ days as champ should be enough ad how much more of a bump would he really get? Sheamus may already be too established at this point too. At the same time you have to pick someone who is oozing with potential and has some decent cred or then Taker ends up losing to someone far lesser than him and that really doesn't work either. Every year the candidate list changes as it makes less sense for certain guys to win that match. I'm sure I will be ridiculed for my list below, but right now I feel like these are the only guys that could make something of that win and have it come off legitimate:

Damien Sandow (which I think would elevate and reinforce his character to new heights. I think he has main event worthiness)
Dolph Ziggler

I got nothing else, and I'm not even convinced of my candidates.

I see your two and add
Wade Barrett
Jack Swagger

BO DALLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess they figure if the crowd already treats him like that, might as well go with it.

Funny you mentioned Wade Barrett. I considered him, but he hasn't established his character enough for me. Ziggler has grown his character into a top 5 on the show now. Sandow, while relatively new, is firmly established who he is. Barrett was the leader of the Nexus early on and maybe in that first year or two he beats Undertaker (timing wouldn't work due to HBK I believe and I wouldn't want to remove that match from history). He's now been rebranded. I can't decide if I like it or not. I felt like he was better on the mic as the leader of the Nexus than he is now. Maybe its the character. He could benefit from a guy like Heyman. I really think making heyman the next Bobby Heenan would be great. Lets get 6 to 8 guys under his belt. They don't need to be a faction. They can all have their own agendas. There's just a handful of guys that could really use his voice to elevate their game. Guys like Cody Rhodes have the tools, but I'm just not there with him as far as his mic skills. Wade Barrett would be great under him.

What is Wade Barrett's character anyways? A hard ass britt with a blazer and a flower costume? He could definitely use a new character.

Vince McMahon Having Surgery, Backstage News on Jericho vs. Ryback, McGillicutty's Status
By Marc Middleton
Jan 31, 2013 - 8:54:51 AM

- We noted before that The Rock trained with Michael McGillicutty to prepare for his Royal Rumble match. Rock is now supporting McGillicutty and he's always had Triple H backing him. No word yet on why he continues to be kept on the lower end of the roster. There's been a big push to get rid of his name and call him Joe Hennig but WWE officials are so against real names these days because they want to full own everyone's ring name.

- Vince McMahon is legitimately having surgery done on his left hip soon. Vince has had a bad hip for some time now. The storyline injury from Brock Lesnar was done as a reason to take off for the surgery.

- As noted before, the early word on plans for Chris Jericho's return is that he will feud with Dolph Ziggler before turning heel and facing Ryback at WrestleMania 29. The idea would be to use Jericho to get Ryback back where he was. Jericho felt back in October that Hell In a Cell was the right time for Ryback to take the WWE Title.

Top indy tag team The Briscoe Brothers won't be attending the WWE tryout camp this week after all as they are still under contract to Ring of Honor. Adam Cole is expected to attend the tryout.

For him to be on tv?

Way longer than that I think.

I don't think he's even started in Florida yet.

In this week's (subscribers-only) F4W Newsletter, Bryan Alvarez talked about some of the early internal discussion for El Generico, noting that the feeling is the 28-year-old will likely lose his trademark mask and be repackaged:

The belief from speaking with those in WWE is that there is a very good chance he'll be unmasked and given a new gimmick and probably spend at least 6 to 8 months in developmental before being called up, probably starting around the end of this month if everything goes as planned.

Hitman buries Trips really bad. Pretty funny.

-------

February 2nd 2013 - Arda Ocal of Layfield Report caught up with WWE Hall of Famer Bret "Hitman" Hart.

Bret talked about the Montreal Screwjob "Shooting Straight" Panel during Royal Rumble weekend and whether or not Bret is sick of talking about it.

They discuss Bret being the "Canadian Alberto Del Rio" and his respect for ADR.

Then, Bret gives context to his recent comments about Triple H, including why he thinks Triple H vs Undertaker at WrestleMania 28 was a "4 (out of 10) at best" and how these comments affect their relationship.

I really hope this is part of a storyline. Otherwise, Bert Mark is out of control.

I don't think it's a storyline.

Bert Hart might be talking workrate, not entertainment.

After listening to it, I see where he's coming from in terms of wondering if Hunter could be another Vince in terms of creativity.

And he's right about him as far as actual wrestling ability.

But he does come off as a bitter old man.

Report - WM30 location set for 2014

WWE's WrestleMania PPV is coming to New Orleans's Superdome for the first time in 2014, reports a local radio station in New Orleans.

New Orleans has been rumored as the location for WWE's benchmark PPV next year, and the deal appears to be set for March/April 2014.

An official announcement is expected this month, around the time of WWE's Elimination Chamber PPV in New Orleans.

The Superdome just wrapped up hosting the NFL's Super Bowl, but things did not go 100 percent smoothly due to a power outage in the third quarter of the game.

WWE typically trails the Super Bowl with their WrestleMania PPV (e.g. announcing WM26 in Phoenix a few months after Super Bowl 42 was held there). However, this year, WWE will beat the Super Bowl to MetLife Stadium in New York.

Uh, Boblaw, personally, I was hoping for early-nWo-era crow-Stinger with his baseball bat. The current incarnation that's standing there looking displeased with the centrifugal presence of Brooke "look at my daughter's legs" Hogan in the ring/storyline sure looks like he could use that bat.

 If the game were in Atlanta, I'm sure they would have gone with the Stinger. I would have also popped for a "Bloodbath", but it would have to be WCW style, where they fuck up and dump the blood on the crowd instead of the wrestlers.

--------

A.) Brad Madd-Ox is not just good, he's great. There. I said it. Can't take it back now. I do find it weird though that he looks more like Bishoff than Garrett does.

B.) Listened to Keller this morning and he said a Foley vs Ambrose match was set for SummerFest last year, but a neurologist gave Mick the thumbs down. Also hate to admit, but Keller probably has the best podcast in 2013 (other than MLW, but that's only weekly). Not all of the other Torch stuff, but just Wade solo.

C.) The WWE tryouts at NXT this past weekend were described as grueling as hell and very physical. One wrestler noted that it was the toughest time of his life. One talent who paid to be in the tryouts quit in the middle of the first day. There were between 10 and 14 injuries suffered over the weekend and a source noted that most of the guys that got hurt were non-wrestling guys who came in thinking they were tough. No word yet on who will be offered deals but officials at the tryouts said they would be making offers in 2-4 weeks. Popular wrestlers who attended the tryouts include ROH TV Champion Adam Cole, Maria's boyfriend Mike Bennett, DGUSA star Samuray del Sol, independent star Ricky Reyes, Northeastern wrestler Smith James and Luke Hawx from Extreme Rising. There was talk that Sami Callihan was there but that's not confirmed yet. (pwinsider)

Taking my daughters to their first ever live event this Saturday night in Springfield MO. Was able to get 6 tickets for around $100. They know nothing about it. We are going to tell them we are going into Springfield for some dinner and surprise them. Can't wait!
