Yes, I'm surprised the haven't cut a deal to open them inside Wal-Marts. That's what I call synergy.

This story is bothering me too much. Its just got so many elements that piss me off.

Hiding behind "God"
Writing a note explaining why you're cheap
Crossing out an auto tip as if that means its gone
Then complaining that the server brought embarrassment on the church
Pretty much my thoughts exactly.

I wonder if the Pastor herself, or the church account paid for the meal?

The Pastor is the douche for eating at Applebee's. Everything else in the story doesn't matter.

Found myself at Applebee's the other day (not my choice) .... anyway, I happened upon their onion rings, and found them to be just about spectacular, even without a proper dipping sauce (seriously, who doesn't have a horseradish-based dipping sauce for onion rings ... savages).

Oh and to state the obvious....10% of your paycheck is not comparable to 18% of one dining out bill

Applebee's (Fridays, CHilis, etc) are not great, but its pretty hard to fuck up deep fried appetizers and a burger. You can do better than these places for sure, but you can also do a lot worse.

The 10% of your income should go to a church thing is one of the biggest scams in human history. I highly doubt that God will be looking at your bank account before giving you the thumbs up or thumbs down to the afterlife.

Also, by the way, that "Mandatory gratuity" is not enforceable, from what I've read and what I remember my sister telling me about a decade ago. It can still be "refused", and the restaurant can legally only charge what the customer writes in and signs for.

Really? Had no idea that was the case.

Somebody is gettin' short changed TONITE!

don't believe it. That's like saying you can pay whatever you want for food. If the 18% policy is written clearly on the menu, a reasonable place that everyone can see or is in any other way communicated to the customer, you aren't getting around it despite the learned opinion of your counsel.

It was only brought to court once, and the customer got off with no penalty.

You can't legally charge a "tip or gratuity" - that was the result.

And since the restaurant can't charge you for it anyways if you sign for only the food charges...yes, you can get away with it.

It would be a gigantic douche move...but not illegal.

I believe it's state by state in legality.

The 10% is more of a suggestion than a rule, like not masturbating on an airplane

I always thought that line was ironic coming from one of the richest frontmen in the world-- both then and now.

That is my favorite version of that song though. I love that one live way more than the album.

The 10% is more of a suggestion than a rule

When I was still living at home around 10 years ago, our local catholic church sent a letter with a chart in it, telling each parishioner how much they should be donating based on how much their household income was. So if you made $100,000/yr, you should be donating X dollars to the church, and so on. The chart went as low as $5,000. If you're family is only pulling in $5,000/year, maybe the church should be giving money to you.

My Mom stopped going to church after that. How could anyone think sending something out like that was a good idea? How about people just give what they can, and what they want to give?

You'd never even have a "second collection" in church with that kind of backwards thiking

People who gripe about people giving to church makes about as much sense as people who gripe about other people not wearing hats.

I've seen this part disputed in other forums. Did the $34.93 already include the mandatory tip (so crossing it out was pointless) or was the expected total $40+?

34.93 did not include the tip

If parenting is so hard why do so many people do it satisfactorily?

Perfect example. Most of the groups aren't that obvious with the title though.

They'll be called "Super moms" or "Moms that live for their kids"

but same content celebrating wine drinking and bitchiness
