Well daughter #2 is not happy at all. She had her cast from her broken hand/wrist was removed and it is all healed. But either due to the stiffness or just caution the doc will not clear her until he sees her in another 3 weeks. She has been practicing as much as possible with her team with one hand within the guidelines and was hoping to start playing again. She worked so hard but not sure enough weeks/games left in the basketball season. :(

Injuries suck!!!

yeah that stinks, sure sorry to hear that.

A friend of one of my daughters broke her ankle sledding the week before her basketball games were going to start. Sad to see that stuff happen.

Injures and return to play suck in high school because there is so much variability with the physicians. I tore my ACL early in my sr year and the first doctor said it would be a 2 yr recovery. The 2nd doctor I found was a collegiate team's orthopedic and he had me back in less than 6 months for baseball. Some of them that don't deal with an athletic population are do damn conservative.

Returning from injury and returning to play are 2 different things. While the bones have healed the muscles have been idle inside that cast. Ideally you would do some baseline grip strength tests and work with an athletic trainer or PT to get back to normal and then you play. If he just said 3 weeks without a plan of action then he is just being conservative.

The doc gave the exercises etc. She was miffed as she has been practicing with her left all this time. She is lefty. The right isn't as important as she sees it. Anyway, she is resuming indoor soccer right away.

My hand hurt like hell after I got my cast off. I couldn't catch a basketball for a few weeks afterwards. I still played, but it hurt worse than when I broke it.

Update: After a while the doc changed his mind after reexamination. Cleared to play yesterday. Game last night was able to contribute 8 solids minutes in a win. She is so happy and I am glad the kid got the payoff for so much hard work through the whole thing. I particularly like how she administered two hard clean fouls in the paint that were necessary for the W. 8)

We went through this last year when my oldest broke his tibea being undercut on a rebound. Yes, it was his senior year, and yes, he was an important part of a very good team. but, no, I did not want to risk early onset arthritis in the joint from rushing his return. He missed the rest of the season, the team lost in district finals to a team they beat twice with him playing, but he made it back for baseball season and pitched really well. No pain or limp now a year later. Perspective is often hard to maintain. Best of luck with her rehab/return, Mike.

Kind of funny thought I had as I watched the game the other night. Those girls really go at it. I think I have seen more injuries in her basketball and soccer games than my son's football.

Women's soccer is extremely dangerous. I think there are more concussions in this than in football, it's crazy.
