I knew a guy who used to go to Walmart and go with the "1 on the scanner, 1 in the bag" method.

They used to not even have anyone monitor it.

Many stores have just gotten rid of the weight sensors on the self-checkout machines because people would just screw the shit up, and it would cost more to have employees constantly correct the customer's mistake.

Where is the Walgreen's? The southeast corner where that hot dog stand used to be?

No, where the bank used to be. Or the main lobby of the bank I guess.

our location doesn't sell bread anymore because hostess going out of business. I was in there on a sunday night and just needed a loaf of bread and half a gallon of milk. The clerk got pissy with me because I asked about it and said "gggaaaaaawwwddd you are the third person that asked about that today". Um, i thought the idea of a convenience store is you sell things that people always need not the latest hair in a can product. So if you that bothered by customers asking that, get on the horn to corporate and get things in there that people actually need.

They did a real good job remodeling the old bank building there. I drove by two weeks ago and did a double take.

A few Walgreens I've been in have a replacement bread for the shitty Wonderbread. #GoodRiddance

i'm crossing my fingers that the shackles come back. stonings would get people out of the house and into a city square location and would no doubt help to stimulate the local economy in the area. seriously, if you're making a special trip to cast the second stone* at a ne'er-do-well, aren't you gonna wanna bring the whole family and stop off for lunch/smoothies/discount-electronics?

The irony of this picture. Here you have a company that has been the standard bearer for a movement that has laid waste to the American Dream and we're going to sentence to a cruel and unusual punishment someone who undoubtedly shoplifted less than a 30 pack of High Life and probably because she was desperate after Wal-Mart killed all the jobs in her community.

The remodeled Walgreen's on State and Randolph is the biggest and most elaborate I've ever seen anywhere. There's another fairly large Walgreen's in Portage near my house. These are nothing like what you'd normally see.

i can kind of relate - mainly because if something goes wrong, you're left helpless and stand there like you're in a cold shower while someone has to come and help you.

personally i love self check out just because they're the least used. but if something doesn't scan right or the sensitivity causes an error, it is a huge headache.

I would be glad to check and bag my own groceries if there was an incentive for me to do so, like a discount. Otherwise, why should I do free work on behalf of a corporation and allow them to eliminate jobs?

Cheaper goods.

Do you really think they lower the prices because they convince people to bag their own shit? I don't believe that. Just like when a ballclub slashes their payroll in half, they don't reduce ticket prices.

What job is needed? I'm capable of growing my own food. I just prefer not to do it. I don't want to wash my own car either. I'd be pissed if my guy Earl at Crossroads got rid of his staff in the interest of "holding future prices down".

Just seems like I always end up behind the idiot that does not know how to use the machine and they gotta get an employee over to help them.

Part of the problem is the places that have them down here do not have very many, so there is usually a line and it just seems to take forever.

So unless I see no one around them, I just go find a regular checkout.

speaking of both making me sick and CVS; walking to my local CVS last week i saw a minivan in the parking lot with a window-decal-thingy that said "WORK HARDER: MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ON WELFARE DEPEND ON YOU"

seriously, do these fuckers realize just how fragile their existences are? most of their "worth" is an arbitrary figure in some bank's computer system, and like.... i mean.... THEY'RE FUCKING CONSUMERS. DRIVING A MINIVAN. IN SUBURBIA.... AND THEY'RE GOING TO ARBITRARILY HARP ON WELFARE RECIPIENTS WHEN THEIR WHOLE FUCKING LIFE IS DISHED UP TO THEM BY A GIANT FUCKING SOCIETAL TEAT!??!?!

it's so fucking lower/middle-middle class to take this pride in "i work.... i earn my money" --- yeah shithead, and if i gave you a billion dollars what would your peasant ass do? fucking halfwits.

I only bag my own stuff when I go to Food For Less or Aldi. If I go to Jewel, I'm waiting until someone comes and does it.

Complaints about link cards (usually the complaint is that the person has a cell phone or some other normal thing. Apparently people think that Link card should meant the person is homeless) and how they work hard so other people can have welfare.

That's been said here before. I think it was something about how a poor family shouldn't own a TV or some bullshit like that.

I do get annoyed when somebody uses a link card for food, then pulls out cash for cigarettes.

Its clear that a lot of people milk that system. That doesn't mean that everybody on the link card is bad or is abusing it though. I've read about more than one person here who used it at some point, and I wouldn't say they are a douchebag.
