Plus, you would want to run his prints through NCIC to determine if he has any wants/warrants out on him. You don't just take a first name and a brief statement from someone and let them go, after they have killed someone with a hatchet. Again, it sounds like he did the right thing to stop this guy, but the police work that followed this event seems like some of the worst imaginable.
