Why not let them take their lumps at the big league level?

The management believes that its important every player play 162 games at AA or AAA

They went that route with Rizzo and the early results are good.

If I was running this team on MLB the show you better believe they'd be up already.

Baez is thought to have better defensive skills. Moving Castro to 3rd makes more sense to me though. He has a good arm, so why displace Barney from 2nd base? Why not fill the void at 3rd and leave Barney at 2nd? in any case, it's unlikely to happen out of spring training. They will probably want to give Stewart a real chance to prove himself at 3rd and at least leave Baez down in the minors until he gets to the point where he will not have a year of credit towards abrbitration/free agency.

I think they wanted Kane County to showcase the guys on the way up. I think he'll go to the Cougars for that reason.

Very wrong according to both Theo and Jed's comments. He will be in Daytona to start and hopefully end the year performing well in Tennessee.

Please do tell where either Theo or Jed said anything about Baez going to Daytona.

I read that Baez was going to be playing in San Jose this March.

If it helps him develop faster,I suppose it's for the best. But I would have thought having him at Kane county even for a short time might have made sense for PR purposes.

Why in the hell would they demote him back down to Low A?? That just makes no sense. They are not going to demote a major prospect to "showcase" him. I think they are going to say Daytona but hope he is lights out in spring training and warrants a season opening start in Tennessee. If he is just average in spring training then he goes to Daytona for the 1st half and hopefully is up to AA at the break.

To be fair this issue not only got started on the Score, but all weekend and even this morning, they report it in the updates that Baez will be starting the season in the Minors, as if the Cubs came out with some PR about it, when in fact the update guys are reporting on the questions spiegel asked Hoyer last week?

The kid played A ball last year, I felt pretty good he will at the very least start in the minors again.

of course he will, and he will have to perform very well for a year to even be considered for making the team next year, which is why you do not move your all star shortstop to another position this year in the hopes a guy will eventually be good enough to replace him

and I dont think many, if any Cubs fans have really even considered it...or even knew this was an option being discussed anywhere...even on the Finfer and Spiegel show

The fact that the Score reports this as if it is a story is pretty lame...and they keep reporting it.

However, this reaction, buzz, hype is what creates an interest in a team and sells tickets. It is one major issue the S side has totally ignored in it's grand scheme.

Castros management friendly contract leads me to believe that he might be trade bait next season.

Agreed. I wonder if they've taken offers on him already.

I think they are in a good position to just let things play out and let the decision make itself. No hurry, no rush, no pressure. Let Castro, Baez and Lake do what they do and see how they develop and mature over the next season or 2. I think all 3 need to develop as much mentally as they do physically. They are young and there is a clear lack of maturity and discipline when it comes to the mental side of the game.

If this were true, I bet they would have moved him for Upton. Not many other players will be worth trading Castro for. Even for a crazy package of prospects, which would lengthen the rebuilding process even more. My guess is he stays.

I don't like him at 3B. I still prefer to have power at that position. Putting him at 2nd may be a good idea if Baez explodes, but shouldn't be an issue this season. Baez could also be moved.

I think Castro will develop enough power to be a third baseman and his defensive abilities will play better there too. I think they should move Barney to SS.

IIRC, Cubs were on his no-trade list.

Baez needs to prove himself and dominate like Castro did at AA before it makes any sense to even think about him on the big league club. As to which position, etc. let the guy develop but 3B makes sense for whomever is inferior at SS esp. given their depch at 2B in the minors.

Let's just hope Baez continues to develop and doesn't fizzle out like so many prospects end up doing. And let's not forget about Almora and Soler who both hopefully will be patroling Wrigley by 2015.
