NASCAR driver helps solve Chicago crime

FoxSports.com

NASCAR driver Kevin Conway appears to have helped Chicago police close a four-year-old cold case.

David McCarthy, 27, allegedly confessed to the sister of a woman who was struck and killed by a car in 2008 that he was driving. According to local ABC affiliate WLS-TV, the sister said the man arrived at her house Sunday to clear his conscience.

Conway had posted a picture of Melissa Lech on his race car last summer in hopes of drumming up new leads. McCarthy reportedly told the sister that he came forward because of "the NASCAR thing."

McCarthy is being held in lieu of $1 million bail for the then-20-year-old woman's death.

Will County prosecutors say McCarthy told Michelle Lech he stopped after striking her sister. But he drove off after others arrived at the scene in Joliet, even though he knew the woman was seriously hurt. After he allegedly confessed, Michelle Lech said, McCarthy told them he wasn't going to police. However, the Lechs got his license plate number and police later arrested McCarthy at his Naperville home.

Assistant State's Attorney Mary Fillipitch said McCarthy told authorities he came forward to unburden himself.

Drive by that spot many times a week. See the memorial set up there. Memo to all you kids out there, if you are walking home drunk from the bar, make sure you walk towards your house. The poor girl was underage at a bar drinking(gasp!, I know..) but she was confused of which direction she was going and unded up getting ran over and died. Fucked up. Glad he turned himself in.

I will put this here, I heard this on the race today and also was asked to Jimmie Johnson today and it's from the fans, why there aren't many cautions anymore?

I don't if this is because of the racing this year and maybe there thinking it's not been too good or what it is.

I know the ratings haven't been too good this season, but I would say I don't need wrecks for a good race or stuff like that, I would just like where the racing is good and the cars are actually close to each other.

I don't if it's soemthing that can be fixed, but what I notice is a car in front can lead about every lap and build a big lead, but get into 2nd place and they look like a bad car. If your dominating, getting behind one car shouldn't hurt you that much.

On the close racing, I look at today's at Dover and with Jimmie Johnson leading especially in the last 50 laps, pretty much a 2 second lead all the way, pretty much made it a bore.

Next week won't be any better at Pocono, there you can get your leader with about a 15 second lead and Michigan can be bad too.

I would say in closing, you don't need cautions, but a way to get better racing without having to bunch everybody up on a caution. I don't if it's the new car or what it is, but they may want to figure out something before it's too late.

The quick answer would be make softer tires. They would wear out before the gas tank is empty and force drivers to pit sooner or more often. Ratings have been average for this year in accordance with the last few. http://www.jayski.com/pages/tvratings2012.htm

Blame the "new" car and how well Hendrick is able to setup the car in the thousandths of an inch from being in or out of the template of the standard set by Nascar. The front end downforce is so important to these cars that it is hard for the top 5 cars to catch the leader. Today's race was not boring to me, as the track changed about halfway through the race. Maybe watching the laptimes gives me more data to make the race interesting. As I'm sure people watching the stick and ball sports with a monitor up giving the live box score.

I really love my dying niche sport, but I can't get the thousands of empty seats filled that are empty each week. We can see a direct causation to corporate sponsorship being reduced in nascar. You can see at all the tracks these days with large banners covers areas that used to have fans in them. It reminds me of the upper deck at the Jacksonville Jaguars football stadium, supply is not meeting demand.

Before I get beat up by the gang of ghosts of Adam Smith, I meant there is too much supply and a lack of demand. Those tickets were and should be given away, just to get people to the venue and spend monies onsite. I'm looking at you Jerry Reinsdorf!!!!

He was a nobody 6 years ago at the height of his career. How is this even a story. I guess it beats hearing about who danica is dating this week.

Bud moved to the Duel sponsor. Also, too many people dying from gun violence to have something called a shootout. Just sayin'.

Will the media and announcers be talking non stop about Danica in tonights race??? Oh wait... is she even in the race?? Hell no. You actually have to accomplish something to race in tonights event.
