I was really confused when I saw this. That was the whole bit. Shatner was showing "what will happen in the future". Pretty dumb.

I got that the song was recorded...I thought that was obvious. But I thought the song itself was in poor taste. Nudity in films is often a necessary componant to telling a story in the manner it's meant to be told (though in some movies nudity may be a gratuitous element as well). To make a song about seeing an actresses boobs with lyrics that sound as if a kid from Jr. High school wrote it, makes the actresses named look bad. Like they were used in some manner, so we could get a look at their boobies. I was impressed with Seth's singing abilities. I wasn't aware that he could sing so well. But some of the humor and this song in particular left me feeling like the material was meant more for adolescents than adults.

The FIRST LINE in my post was that I got that it was recorded and thougt that was obvious. So how you go back to anything about it being recorded or not makes no sense.

As far as the humor goes....it may be Seth being Seth, but perhaps that was the problem. He is a guy who has produced shows aimed at an adolescent audience. Perhaps he wasn't a good choice for the Academy awards. That would be my opinion.

He is also a classically trained pianist. Certainly Family Guy does appeal to a younger more raunchier demographic and I think they were looker for a younger audience. Of course there are still a lot of baby boomers around that don't care for the entertainment aimed at younger audiences.

I only caught the Oscars after the conclusion of the Hawks game. I thought Seth and his writers were great, really great.

Doing a von Trapp bit with a Nazi, then bringing out Christopher Lee to present supporting actress, that was pretty cool.

From what they said on the radio today, the viewership was up 17% which is a huge bump. That being the case, I wouldn't doubt they feel very good about the choice they made to ask Seth to host. I realize the type of humor he uses in Ted and Family Guy is popular with a certain demographic and has a place in the entertainment world. But not at the Academy awards in my opinion. Just as there are golf courses where one might be allowed to play in a T-shirt and jean shorts, you are not going to get onto a nicer course or onto the course at the Country Club wearing such clothing. The Academy Awards features actresses wearing dresses that cost more than the rent/mortgage that the average fan of Family Guy pays. It's a formal event that should be treated with a degree of respect and decorum. Not a venue for telling off-color jokes and singing sophmoric songs about womens breasts. He was an inappropriate choice for host in my opinion. However, I do realize that my opinion may not be shared by the majority of people that tuned in, based upon the increased ratings. I hope they go back to Billy Crystal next year.
