How will this new fan base react this coming week when drivers will be required to drive during the race instead of putting their foot on the floor and hoping nothing bad happens?

Most of the drivers and crew chiefs that I heard today actually really liked the new car as it required people to drive rather than just run things wide open. That was why they were crediting Dale Jr's ability to move up from 15th late in the race by taking a few different people 3-wide to make his move where others couldn't. They likened it more to Daytona racing of 15 years ago or so.

Also, to consider, the track is getting some seasoning now and requiring people to consider how the track is impacting tire wear 12 to 15 laps into a run where they haven't had to since the resurfacing. All these things leading to handling being a much more important facet to the setups than just flat-out speed.

I think she might surprise a few people next week, certainly not Neck or Scorehead, but other people. She finished 17th last year in Phoenix. I think she'll probably be OK for Vegas too. I think her real problems will start with Bristol, Martinsville, and some of the other shorter tracks.

I think Tony Gibson and that team know what they are doing and she should be getting some nice cars on the intermediate-type tracks. But, I think she'll still be OK for Phoenix as well.

So do they normally interview drivers during the race under the green flag, or is that just a Danica thing?

I've never seen them interview any driver in their car during a green. Are you sure that happened and they weren't riding around in a caution?

All of NASCAR's broadcast partners interview drivers before the green flag, as well as during a yellow caution flag.

I would be shocked if she was interviewed during green flag laps, now yellow they will do quite often.

I'm pretty pretty sure, but wouldn't bet my life on it. I "think" it may have been after the early yellow for debris on the track. Shortly after the pace car went out and everyone was still pretty much in rows. She was second or third row.

I'd like to hear Kyle Busch's response while he's bump drafting Harvick at 205 mph about how "Jimmy in Little Rock wants to know if you keep a lucky coin or some other knick-knack in the car for luck"?

I think it would be Earl Weaver-esque.

It would be off the charts funny, perhaps this is something they should look into.

Another odd thing, the track chairman said "Drivers and Danica, START YOUR ENGINES."

WTF??

Even though they've bleeped out the foul language, the Earl Weaver pregame "Manager's Corner" still makes me chuckle to this day.

Hatchetman, that wasn't the Track Chairman. That was actor James Franco, the Grand Marshal at yesterday's Daytona 500 who uttered that above quotation.

Yes, must have been inhaling ether. Kids were causing such an uproar I couldn't hear, but that dude DID say that, did he not?

I'm certain Franco went off-script there and it won't happen at Phoenix.

That was cringe-worthy to the extreme.

Do what?

The Grand Marshal utters the above phrase "Gentleman and Danica" instead of "Gentleman and Lady, start your engines!"

I suspect what I heard was the booth talking to Danica during the yellow and during a commercial. When they came back and went green, they played the interview while showing the race in real time.

That is not what the dumb ass actor said though.

I think it will just be "Drivers, start your engines" or they should really specifically list all 43 drivers by name to be fair.

This isn't the first time a female that has been ontrack.
" Drivers, start you engines" is not that hard of a concept to figure out.

That's a bit different than what Franco did.

What don't they just say, "Drivers, start your engines" ??

Sounds fair enough to me.

NASCAR’s First Black Woman Driver Begins Inspirational Journey

Tia Norfleet

It’s usually a diss to say a woman is fast but in Norfleet’s case, it is a compliment like no other. That’s because Norfleet is the first African-American woman to be licensed as a driver for NASCAR.

Norfleet, daughter of racing veteran Bobby Norfleet, made her debut in August. Earlier this month, she started in the ARCA racing series, which serves as a stepping stone to the major NASCAR events. Wouldn’t it be great if Norfleet was in the pole position one day like trailblazer Danica Patrick was Sunday for the Daytona 500?
Patrick finished 8th, the highest finishing spot for a woman. Norfleet has aspirations to smash records one day.

I have been inspired by her a lot,” Norfleet told Reuters about Patrick. Danica has shown that as a female we can hang with the boys. We can do it just as well as anyone else can….She is motivation for me to get out there, do good, and give it my all while knowing that I don’t have to back down because I am a female. It makes me work even harder.

Norfleet started racing in a battery-powered Barbie car that her dad souped up, because his young daughter had a need for speed. Norfleet says she drove the car until “the wheels fell off.” Norfleet’s love from the sport just grew from there and she knew she wanted to race for a living by the age of 14.
Now that she has started on her path to success, Norfleet wants to inspire others. She has a literacy foundation called “Driven2Read.” She tells Reuters:

That’s my main goal — to motivate young girls of all colours, all races and all creeds, and to let them know that you don’t have to go out and do something that is immoral or not right….I want them to know you can be positive and you can achieve things. When people tell you you can’t do something, I just want to motivate them to be all that they can be…I’m all about empowerment and, at the same time, I want to grow into the woman that I want to be.

KS, how old is she, and if she is of age, would ya? If of age, I am thinking most definitely.

If NASCAR really wants to generate publicity, they need to have a gay driver.

I'm pretty sure a few of them already enjoy a cock meat sandwich from time to time.
