Not really. I think it goes well beyond just the Score. For example, a lot of people consider a second place team that won 90 games and failed to make the playoffs the equal of one that lost 100 games.

That's bullshit. I heard Mac bash the Sox season last year as "a tease". No, it was a good competitive season. Of course it didn't turn out the way Sox fans would like. They got beat a couple games by a team everyone thought would beat them by 20 and they scored more and allowed less than that juggernaut. It is what it is. But as someone who actually pays to see games, there's a huge difference between a season like that and one where you lose 100.

The Hawks have played a great season already. I don't like hockey and I'm actually watching. It will be nice if they win the Cup, but if they don't it isn't some tragedy or a shit season.

Last night Joe O. and Connor (mostly Joe O) were ready to do two hours on the dumb Hawk fans who had the audacity to cheer after OT because the streak was intact. Luckily Hossa scored during the update in which they were discussing the idiocy and Hawk fans were partially spared

Mac, Grobber, Mully and Hanley arent particularly negative but Bernstein, Boers, Joe O., Laurence, Connor, and Drinky are all on the negative side.

I listen mostly at night, so take that into account.

I mean its a ridiculous premise. Think of all the memories you have from the regular season 2005. Would those things have ceased to have happened if the Sox lost in the ALCS? Of course not.

Exactly. That's my point. But a guy who never pays for a game may view things differently.

Anyway, I wonder how bernstein squares all of his weird thoughts and statistics. The White Sox were better than Detroit last season, right? They scored more and allowed less, didn't they? So it was just bad luck that caused the runs to fall in the wrong places. Now I don't really feel that way, but I have heard bernstein express such thoughts. The better team is the one who won. Not that one you think should have won based on statistics that don't have a bearing on the way we tally the results.

I have more fond memories of the 2003 Cubs than any other team in my lifetime.

Oddly enough, I have a lot of good memories from that run too. I was on a rooftop for one of the Atlanta games and sitting in a box seat when Sammy hit the camera box against Florida.

And as much as I know it hurt you as a Cubs fan, the events of Game 6 were awesome. I mean, that is the stuff of legend. In a lot of ways it's better than if Prior had twirled a shutout and the Cubs had won the series.

Yeah, not quite. Prior throwing a shut out to end a 58 year WS drought would have been legendary enough

But I get your point. Brett Boone's Homerun was also the stuff of legend even if it killed Red Sox fans.

What a couple of championship series those were.


My memories were of the Cubs growing up a bit and moving from Sosa's team to Prior's team. Prior challenging Bonds, Farnsworth demolishing Paul Wilson, Eric Karros ruining Clemens attempt at 300, Prior basically putting the team on his back in August and September, great times.

Heavens, that was said? Amazing, that they always rain on the parade.

Funny enough, I was in Cincinnati for my annual Cubs Road Trip that series. Farnsworth was out late at Have a Nice Day Cafe (now closed) in downtown Cincy the night before. He was hard to miss. We were about 20 rows up behind home plate for that game. Many of the Reds players yelled at Farnsworth from the dugout, but no one would go near him. He pummeled that boy. Lots of red that day....

All those people are Bernstein disciples. They lack the self awareness to have their own thoughts.

I don't really have too much an problem with the championship or bust thought when you view the big picture. But when you're only thought during an exciting 2.5 hour hockey game is this you have personal issues.

Thats a team I think of every time someone says that no season in which a team does not win a Championship is a successful one. BULLSHIT! I thoroghly enjoyed that season and had the great pleasure to be at game 5 in Atlanta, where Wood beat Hampton to help the Cubs win the only playoff series since 1908. That was a great time. That was a really fun, entertaining season. People who don't enjoy the journey, but focus only on the ending of the season miss out on a lot of great times. Sad....

I see that as a bigger accomplishment quite frankly because they had to actually win every game. there were no ties (3 of which were lost in shootouts) involved. As much as I applaude the Hawks outstanding start to this season, it's not at that level. Also, that streak was far from the real story in the movie. It's about the way a team is put together. The manner in which Beane and his assistants used statistical analysis to design a team in a way never before done. And then succeed with that alternative design. It revolutionized the game. Whether teams use the same model, or have integrated the use of those statistics in the manner in which they evaluate players/teams, almost every team scouts differently today because of the success Beane has had.

I know the movie didn't get great reviews and it seems like it's not very much appreciated, but I thought it was a good movie.

To get back to the theme here though....I think the Score (B&B) afternoon personalities have always been more negative than positive and neither particularly likes Hockey. Could it be that with the Hawks off to their historically great start and the Bulls fading into oblivion, there is a sense of resentment? The sport that Beerstain knows better is becoming irrelevant, while the sport he is most ignorant about has become the focus of the town.
