See, I'm torn. Cases like this? I wish we still had it on the books. But, that's not my call.

Who's culture are you talking about???....and who is teaching an entire generation that life is cheap?? Don't lump everyone into one group. Not everyone has taught their children that life is cheap and not to be reguarded with great value. Movies and music videos too often seem to be bent on teaching such things and it's a good reason to censor the kind of things kids are exposed to and make sure they don't get negatively impacted by entertainment productions that might leave them with such impressions.

The American culture we all share, CIJ. We start small, with things like "Ah, its a bit of weed, no harm done," or "Hey, my kid might of stole that video game, but politicians rob us blind." We allow shows that originally aired in the evening hours to play 24 hours a day on basic cable. (NCIS, CSI.) We think nothing of kids playing "Call of Duty" all Christmas break. Those shows, violent video games, angry pissed off music and language everywhere you look. We try to shield our kids from it, but its an onslaught. (Not to mention how you can find shit so easy on the internet.) We have entire cable networks dedicated to armed warfare.

We get to a point that we've allowed so much to pass in the name of "freedom of expression" and "I've got a right to...." again and again; then we all sit up shocked when shit like this went down. These kids probably started with small shit, and then progressed to the point of this.

What a bunch of crap.....I never let my kids smoke any weed and if they had, they would have been severely punished. If they stole anything (including a video game) they would be made to return it and apologize to the store owner and then be punished as well. I never let my kids play anything like Call of Duty because of the violent nature of the game.Hell, I wouldn't even allow a game system in the home until the kids were in their teens. They were also taught that armed warfare is for idiots that didn't do well enough in school and therefore didn't have better options in life. That their lives were too valuable to risk fighting wars that governments wage to protect their country's interests (like oil) and not their own.

In the end, you are right to take a portion of the blame if you allow your kids to steal, smoke pot/use drugs, disrespect authority/elders and find entertainment in violent games/movies. You suck as a parent and allowed your child to become someone that is likely to have a bleak future. You may not be able to make kids outside your home good citizens, but you sure as hell can guide your own kids and help them to a better path.

No Death Penalty in Illinois thanks to George Ryan.

At least he did something right.

Bullshit.....The citizens of the state should not have to shoulder the burden of housing/feeding scumbag criminals that will never be contributing members of society. If they will have a life sentence, with no possibility for parole .....the criminal should be put down like a rabid dog. Anyone convicted of 3 class X felonies should also be put down. The only problem with capital punishment in years past, was that it wasn't used enough and took too long with all the appeals. The certainty of the punishment was not what it needed to be to have any effect to deter crime.

Its easier for you to shoulder the burden of state sponsored murder than housing and feeding?
Interesting.
For what its worth, its cheaper to incarcerate than to kill and go thru the whole legal process.

It's not murder, it's a legal execution. They aren't killing an innocent person, but one convicted (don't bother trying to argue the 1/10th of 1 percent or less that were wrongly executed prior to DNA evidence. Today those mistakes would not be made) of capital crimes. Yeah, I find it easy to live with the idea of eliminating those individuals rather than feeding/housing them. The only problem with the death penalty was the time it took to get appeals heard. They should have made the process easier to expedite and carry out the sentences in a timely fashion. They did things better generations ago, when a trial was often followed by a public hanging.

Today those mistakes would not be made? How do you figure. You know as well as anyone that the proliferation of crooked cops and desoerate to convict DAs make that statement ridiculous.

People are wrongly convicted every day. We should be better than to just kill other people.

And count me as less than shocked that you'd be the guy to use the lynchings of days gone by as an example of good things we miss. That is just plain stupid. Pardon me for not continuing to have this conversation with you, but I feel its not going to get better.

People get convicted of crimes they did not commit, sure. But not of Capital Crimes much if at all anymore. DNA evidence can now eliminate people that years ago might have been suspects that were tried and convicted. The idea that there are huge numbers of crooked Cops is a result of tremendous press coverage of cases involving those Police officers that are dishonest. but the vast majority of Police officers are honest. Do the ADA's put convictions ahead of ethics and try to convict at times when they should dismiss a case?....Sure, it has happened. It happened to Rolando Cruz (Jeannine Nacarrico case) Stephen Buckley and ....I wish I could remember the 3rd guy's name, but I cant...when the D.A. tried to convict the 3 of the rape and Murder. But the DNA evidence (only introduced after the initial convictions on appeal) proved they were innocent. Today, that evidence would have cleared them before an initial trial.

The affinity I have for a public hanging (not lynching, which is done by a mob illegally) just after a trial, is the idea that a sentence be carried out in an expeditious manner. That might well deter many from a life of crime. Knowing that a swift and severe punishment awaited those who choose to commit capital crimes. If it were by lethal injection, the electric chair, firing squad or poison gas, it works just as well for me though.

1st paragraph... if there's one innocent person murdered for a crime they didn't commit that's innocent blood on MY hands, on YOUR hands. I don't think I would want to live with that. Apparently you subscribe to the "to make an omlette" theory of justice. You willing to be the guy flipping the switch? Or pushing the plunger?

2nd paragraph... you must be insane. When they publically murdered people for crimes, did those crimes cease to happen? Was there some utopian society where the death penalty actually prevented murders from happening? Is Texas murder free?

JUST after a trail, go ahead and kill someone. No need to have an appeal process, heavens no. Mistakes are never made at trial.

My kids will be taught to have self-esteem sufficient enough so that they don't feel it necessary to brag about being an extra in a cancelled sitcom, or being heard on the radio for 15 seconds, or attending a fantasy football convention.

They will also be taught the difference between common and proper nouns.

It takes far more training and brain power to be a soldier than it does to be a painter. I knew people much smarter than you that choose to become military officers.

Wow. Talk about missing my point. But feel free to think we hold no responsibility for the world around us, but only are responsible for what happens inside our own homes.

Accused Killers Confessed to Having Sex on the Bodies, Police Reports Reveal

Nightmare on Hickory Street, Part 1: After the savage strangling of two young men, two of the accused killers decided to have sex atop the corpses of the victims, police learned.

By Joseph Hosey

Joshua Miner remembered his teenage girlfriend confiding “years back that she wanted to have sex with a dead guy,” states a police report documenting last month’s double murder on Hickory Street.

That's why Miner got the idea to ask girlfriend Alisa Massaro to have sex with him on the corpses of two men he's accused of helping to kill, police said.

Massaro “made a smirk on her face” and said she didn’t want to, according to the reports, but when being questioned by police, she “later acknowledged she and Josh did have sexual intercourse on top of the bodies.”

The reports obtained by Patch detail the differing versions of events described by the two young men and two young women—Miner, 24, Massaro, 18, Adam Landerman, 19, and Bethany McKee, 18—accused of luring two men to Massaro’s Hickory Street home and strangling them.

Police found the bodies of Terrance Rankins and Eric Glover, both 22, face down inside the house on Joliet’s near west side on the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 10. Plastic bags were tied around the dead men’s heads, according to the reports. One of the men was bound, the other looked as if his hands had been tied at one time.

After the men were killed, McKee left Massaro’s house at least two times, according to statements in the police reports, including one trip to take her year-old child to a babysitter. On her way out for one of these excursions, McKee reportedly saw Miner set the scene for his sex romp with Massaro.

“McKee related that during the night that Josh wanted to put the bodies together, which they did, side by side and they put something over the bodies, which was beige in color and they were going to have sex on top of the bodies,” a report said. “McKee relates that she did not stick around for that ..."

McKee also told police Landerman may have been involved, too.

“McKee did relate that she thought Adam and Alisa had sex because they were talking about having a three-way on top of the bodies that were laying on the floor,” a report stated.

“McKee relates that Alisa agreed with having sex on the bodies because she just wanted to go along with Josh and that they had been together a long time,” the report stated. “McKee related during the whole interview that Josh was the one responsible for most of these actions and Adam had just followed along and had only known Josh for this past week but was more of the (follower) in this and Josh was more of the leader.”

McKee also reportedly told police that Miner “scared” her.
