I just love watching this kid play. He's a great skater, hustles his ass off, is a good passer (unselfish player) and a good shooter. The sky is the limit for this kid. I like him for rookie of the year. Not only a solid 5 on 5 player, but a good contributor to special teams too. Gonna be a fan favorite in no time.

I love him too, but unless the goals start coming in bunches, he's not even close to ROTY. He'll have to pass Tarasenko, Huberdeau, Yakupov, Conacher, Hamilton, and Schultz. I think Hamilton ultimately gets it.

EDIT: Galchenyuk and Silfverberg are ahead of Saad, too.

Brandon Saad and the Wings' Justin Abdelkader are among the league's few Arab-American players. Neither of them look particularly Levantine at all, either.

Despite the lack of goals, the dude bumrushes the net pretty well. They have needed someone like him to bury the puck deep in the zone.

I like Saad alot. Always seems to go hard to the net but still kind of a spaz. But being a spaz worked out pretty good for Versteeg when he was here so what the hell. Hopefully Saad doesn't drop any microphone knowledge like him tho.

The transactions that led to the Blackhawks drafting at #43 in 2011 were really convoluted. I'm trying to figure out how we even got this pick. I think it goes back to trading Rene Bourque to Calgary.

Actually, it was a trade with Toronto in 2009 that was an exchange of picks (Hawks sent a 2010 second rounder to Toronto for a 2011 3rd rounder and this second rounder Toronto owned from Calgary.)

But wasn't that 2010 second we sent them one of Calgary's? I know we got a pick from Calgary for Bourque that we traded, and then we drafted Saad with a Calgary pick, and Toronto was in there somewhere. What a mess. I'm glad we got him. I think what I'm getting at is that Brandon Saad will probably turn out to be a better player than Rene Bourque.

Or wait, does the Saad pick trace back to a Robert Lang trade? AHH SO CONFUSED. All I know is that Bowman cleaned up in the 2011 draft.

Good memory:

The Calgary Flames' second-round pick went to the Toronto Maple Leafs as the result of a trade on June 26, 2010 that sent Jimmy Hayes to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for this pick.[26]

Chicago previously acquired the pick as the result of a trade on July 1, 2008 that sent Rene Bourque to Calgary in exchange for this pick (being conditional at the time of the trade).[27] The condition – Calgary chooses to trade a pick in either 2009 or 2010[28] – was converted on March 4, 2009 when Calgary traded their second-round pick in 2009 to Colorado

Thanks for proving that you have no awareness of the fact that there are other teams in the league besides the Hawks and whoever the Hawks are playing that rare night you decide to hop on the bandwagon and watch a game.

That complaint should be directed to Marian Hossa.

With the helper on Toews goal 12 seconds into the game, that can no longer be said.

Saad was named the #2 star of the game tonight as he helped the Blackhawks down the Minnesota Wild 5-3. Saad has a goal AND 2 assists in the game.

I don't understand the point of a post like this? Did you post this for the benefit of people who didn't watch the game and have an internet connection that only allows them to visit this website?

Tenth in points among rookies, seventh in goals, third in +/-. Probably not going to make that up.

People are starting to talk about Huberdeau like he's the next Toews. Sucks if true.

The goals came in bunches! He's only behind Huberdeau, Conacher, and Gallagher in scoring. Second in +/- behind Muzzin. I don't think he'll pass Huberdeau, who has the luxury of being a great player on an awful team, and Gallagher has the benefit of being a Glorious Montreal Canadien, but maybe the Hawks' success as a team can help Saad at least be a finalist.

He's been impressive last few weeks thats for sure. Too bad he came out of the chute so slowly points wise or he would be leading candidate.

Saad is fifth among rookies in scoring with 25 points. Fifth in goals with 10, third in assists with 15. Leads rookies in +/- at +16.

But you know what? He's doing it on the best team in the league. I realize this cuts both ways: yes, his production is more valuable to his team than Huberdeau's, but Huberdeau doesn't get to play on a line with two likely Hall of Famers, either. Still, screw the worthless Panthers. Give it to the Man-Child. If not him, then Gallagher, who is racking up even better production on a team that's right in the Stanley Cup conversation, and without even being the most heralded rookie on his team.

I'm happy for him and all but I wish he would show up to the playoffs pretty soon. Also, one could argue that his winning the Calder would affect cost control, so maybe we should secretly root against it (kind of like how I may have secretly not minded if Byfuglien won the Conn Smythe since he wasn't on an ELC and couldn't earn bonuses for it). It's moot, though; they'll give it to Huberdeau for having the most points or Gallagher for being a Hab.

It's weird that the Hawks had the best record and best goal prevention in the league along with second-best goal scoring, yet no one's up for the Hart (MVP), the Vezina (best goaltender), Norris (best defenseman), and Q probably isn't even up for the Adams. So...who is accomplishing things here, exactly?
