I have no problems with golf. It's a fun summer game, and a great way to bond with friends. It just kind of make me laugh when I see lists about the best athletes in the world, and someone like Phil Mickelson makes it. It's a little silly.

So, basically you are arguing against an extreme, and quite ridiculous point, that was not made by anybody here.

How do we know if they are athletes or not? To you because they play golf they are not, but have you researched what other sports these guys have played growing up and to what level?

Dammit, I hate myself for getting involved in this. :x

That isn't exactly what I said. I said you can drink and smoke during golf, and it won't negatively impact your performance. Look at the Bulls record during the "Pot Smoking" scandal, I'd say it severely impacted their performance.

Nailed it. Golf is fun. But mostly because you can drink, smoke and race cars at the same time.

No, NBA players don't drink and smoke and race carts during games. That would be a thing though.

NBA players get high in the locker room before games, and during halftime. Metta World Peace claimed that he drank at halftime. I guess basketball isn't a sport.

There are stories out there that they have smoked before games and at halftime.

So by Douchebag's own definition, NBA is not a sport

He also referenced beating somebody in a footrace. Which means pretty much nothing, but I would actually bet there is somebody on this board who could beat Eddy Curry, Paul Konerko, and Bartolo Colon in a 40 yard dash.

Nobody (except Douchebag) has said golfers are among the best overall athletes in the world. But to say golf does not require any sort of athleticism just plain wrong and ignorant.

Usually, smoking and drinking hinders that as well.

The bolded text is ludicrous. The best golfer ever (Tiger) is in tremendous physical condition.

So, the dictionary is incorrect?

Golf success is probably 90% dependent on how good your swing is, and maybe 10% on how strong you are. You don't see any body builders or steroid freaks of nature winning PGA tour events.

I guess there are no thin baseball players who hit homeruns. Probably no fat guys like Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, or Adam Dunn either.

i'll go with that

It takes much more physical effort to execute a golf shot, and then repeat that 90 or 100 more times over the course of a round.

I could bowl fifteen or twenty games in a row, with no problem. If I play 27 holes, I am physically exhausted.

16 lbs isn't average, it's at the high end of the spectrum. Bowling balls weigh anywhere between 6 and 16 lbs.

it may take precision and accuracy, but i don't really think it takes physical effort beyond a token amount
it takes a lot to throw a dart at a bullseye and repeat it several times, doesn't mean its physically exhausting
maybe you should start riding a cart or get a caddy

That's a tough one, as I am not an avid archer. My buddy has a bow, and it is extremely difficult to pull the bow back, to properly fire an arrow.

Throwing a dart requires very little effort. A golf swing uses most of the muscles in the body, especially when you swing as hard as I do.

I don't play at Bushwood, so there are no caddies available. I do ride when I golf. Where would I put my beer and weed?

Wrong. You have to be fan's of a sport to be part of a sport's fandom.

If golf isn't a sport, why is it covered in Sports Illustrated and the sports page of the Trib? Why is golf listed under sports on my cable guide? Why is golf covered by CBS Sports and NBC Sports?

I love golf, would play it every day if I could. But, I don't consider it a sport. I consider it a game that's level of difficulity relates directly to the amount of athletic ability and hand/eye coordiation the player has.

Hey Shakes, would you say that Nick Leddy is the second best Hawk at being able to carry the puck into the zone after Kane?
