I hate to be like B&B, but the regular season NCAA men's basketball isn't the same as the tournament. It's not played with the same intensity or with the same win-or-die drama. Don't tell me all these games leading up to the tournament are important when the games only matter for the bubble teams. And for those who think college basketball is greater than the NBA, I would like to remind you that most of the best players from the NCAA are not good enough to play in the NBA.

NCAA Basketball & Football are both better than the NBA & NFL. You do realize how many people attend & watch College hoops, right?

NCAA basketball has stupid rules and the level of play is poor with all the missed free throws in these big games, there is too much emphasis on the coaches and the quality of play goes done because there are too many guys who can't play who think they're going to the NBA. If you take gambling out of the NCAA tournament probably the ratings are significantly worse.

NCAA football is also overrated. Many of the best teams play absolutely no defense. They also have stupid rules and there have been so many years without a playoff. Yes, there is a lot of interest in places where they have no NFL teams, but don't tell me the quality of product or speed of the game can compare with the NFL.

Right, but the college basketball fanatic will tell you that the NBA is entertainment and college basketball is about amateur teams who play a better brand of ball. What they fail to mention is that it is an inferior sport.

I take it NASCAR is your favorite sport?

I love how Mini Ditka has damaged his brand so much that people don't even respond to his thoughts any more. You get the feeling that he could pick either side of an argument and be wrong.

I think he couldn't be more right about this topic.

Nascar is not a sport. The driver controls the car, but he's not the one running 200 MPH. If you want to consider astronauts, fishermen and ice road truckers to be a sport we may have a discussion.

It's not worth crying over winning a regular season title over.

What is he right about? I can't even tell what his point is.

However, he is correct that NBA players are better players.

There were a few different discussions in this thread. Let me recap:

1. Tournament>NCAA regular season by a mile
2. Pro Basketball and Football>College sports
3. Nascar is not a sport and astronauts, fisherman and truck drivers are not athletes.

I understand that there is a loose collection of opinions in here, along with a couple undeniable facts, but what is the point you are making?

Yes, the tournament is better than the regular season. In what sport isn't that true?
In your opinion, you think pro sports are better. That's fine. It's a valid stance to take.

Pro football's regular season is better because you can count on your team playing every week. Very few teams are able to even get a playoff win, so I think the regular season is better unless your team is in the playoffs.

The point about the NCAA tournament was how they basically jump the shark with trying to hype everything up before the tournament when their regular season doesn't matter, except for bubble teams.

The sport is useless until they get to the tournament.

It's not exactly the same sport in that the rules are different. College basketball has two 20 minute halves. They have the one and one free throws. They are only allowed 5 fouls. The 3-point line is closer. I can't remember, but I don't think they have illegal defense like the NBA. The ball cannot be advanced on a timeout.

Saying that the NBA and college basketball players play the same sport is like same that men and women's basketball is the same sport. When anyone knows that women can't dunk and don't have 7 foot players. It's like saying that high school basketball is the same sport as college basketball. It's very clear that a different league is in essence a different sport. In the same way that a kid's little league team does not compare to MLB.

All play the sport of basketball.

Both play the sport of baseball.

The NBA doesn't have an illegal defense rule anymore MD. Even your sports thoughts are outdated

When I said inferior sport, I meant inferior level of sport's competition.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defensive_ ... _violation

Defensive three-second violation, also known as illegal defense, is a rule violation in the National Basketball Association (NBA). It is assessed when a member of the defending team spends more than three seconds in the free throw lane (also known as the 16-foot lane, or colloquially as "in the paint") while not actively guarding an opponent.

How stupid is that??????????? Probably all the number seeds will have not won their conference tournament? Just one and done. All these tournaments do is allow teams a chance to get in who don't deserve it

I was watching ESPN today and they said there are more than 300 division one schools. I know a lot of people like to watch the smaller schools in the tournament, but I think a lot of the smaller schools that make the tournament as not as good as the losing teams in the bigger conferences. Almost the entire Big 10 is probably better than most of the lower seeds and the same could be said about some of these other conferences.
