Alex Permann had a moment few of us ever have. For a brief time, he thought he had won $50,000. Then it was all taken away from him because he didn't pay attention to the rules.

Ads by GooglePermann was attending Sunday's Missouri Valley Conference title game between Creighton and Wichita State when he was chosen to take part in the halftime contest. All he had to do was make a layup, a free throw, a three-pointer and a half-court shot in 24 seconds and he would win $50,000.

Permann made the layup, he sank the free throw. Then he ran out to half-court and made that shot. $50,000! The crowd went crazy. Permann jumped around the court, arms raised in triumph. But he had forgotten something: the three-pointer.

So, no $50,000 for Permann.

"There was a miscommunication, and I was given some instructions that didn't match the instructions the announcer said," Permann told USA Today. "I was so excited to be out there that I didn't pay attention to what he said. I had in my mind what I was going to do before I went out there."Tournament organizers decided to be generous though, and gave Permann tickets for life to the Missouri Valley Conference tournament and a three-day hotel stay for next year's event.

"Overall, today was definitely a good [experience]," Permann said. "I'm happy they gave us tickets for life and all the other stuff. Money would be great, but that's a pretty good consolation."

No.

The rules said he had to complete 4 elements (possibly in a certain order?) within an NBA shot clock.

Dude completed 3 out of the 4...

non-story.

Seeing the video, the kid doesn't even deserve the consolation prize, he barely made the FT on his 2nd attempt. Jeez:

You mean other than the announcer and the few hundred folks shouting "3 pointer!" as he ran for the half-court shot...tho technically I suppose
he did make a 3 (lame).

I'd hope/guess that the MVC had dude read and sign some sort of document outlining the rules/requirements to win the $50K. But, then again, it's the MVC.

Since his half-court shot was a 3, he could've shot another half-court shot to meet the requirements IF the requirements dictated a shot-order (Layup/FT/3/Half-Court) which given the lack of a requirement to make each shot on the first try, they probably did.

If they did not require any particular order to the shots, then he could've shot a closer than half-court 3 at the end to fulfill the reqs.

Wonder if they required he dribble from shot to shot?

If they dont require a sequence, best way from a time standpoint would be to start with the half-court shot and work your way back in toward the hoop. Tho I'd probably start with the FT, take the layup on the FT rebound, then run for the half-court shot so that long rebounds could be wrangled for the 3/successive tries.

4 all-session passes for the 2013 MVC Arch Madness 130$ x 4 = $520.

dude isn't gonna make out too badly over the life (50 years?) of that deal.

tho with Creighton off to the Big East and Creighton fans purchasing ~ 4,000 of this year's tourney's 7,500 all-session passes...

Probably still better off for the MVC just to cut dude a check now, rather than having to pay lawyers to get out of the deal in 10 years.
