I don't think it's stupid to have questions about the move.

I never said anything about having questions. Having questions about the signing is different than just bitching from the start that it is a bad signing.

With that said, I find it entirely hard to believe that a guy who is a 2 time pro bowler could be compared in any way shape or form to Webb. But that's me...

Here-- Kdid and Peoria Matt. Read others on twitter doing the same thing.

Not sure if I'd categorize my post as "bitching". More like giving my opinion, which I admitted was an uninformed one. Love the TE signing.

No way do you know enough about the cap issues to be able to say this with any confidence.

According to most sources the Bears cap dude does a great job of working this stuff.

You're right, I overexaggerated. But Emery definitely hasn't efficiently used the Bear's cap space. Jermon Bushrod is the highest paid lineman in Bears history, Matt Forte was given 4 years 32 million with 17 guaranteed, Michael Bush 4 years 14 million with 7 guaranteed. Jason Campbell was handed 3.5 million for Caleb Hanie production. Melton was given 8 million even though he's a product of Julius Peppers.

Next year will be an even bigger clusterfuck.

How can you consider either Matt's or KDdidit's posts "bitching"?

Unless anything other than unquestioned optimism is your definition of bitching.

And let's be honest....when you've fucked up as many o-lineman draft picks as the Bears, the Bushrods of the world are going to get overpaid by said team.

Seriously?

So saying you do not like the move without even having a reason is not bitching?

Cool. Now I know.

Glad I could educate you.

Matt said he didn't like it. He didn't say Emery was a buffoon and should have went after _____. He just doesn't like it.

He didn't bitch about anything.

You see bitching in everything. I said it sucked that after drafting 2 tackles with first round picks in recent years we had to go out and pay a free agent the highest lineman contract in Bears history. Is that not reasonable?

Michael Bush isn't coming back right? So Bushrod won't be blocking for Bush after all.

I thought I did. (Yawn.)

Pro Bowl appearances by OLinemen are wildly over-rated imo. Have a good year & they'll remember you forever, like they did him last year. I just don't think that highly of him. I don't really recall any consistent "great" blocking (run or pass) from him. Certainly not $7.1mm worth from his last two years effort. Actually I remember a number of jailbreaks coming from his area.

If the $$ saved from not signing him is distributed well, the Saints are better off for it.

Wow that's review got worse and worse

Don't think highly of him
Nothing Consistent
Not great
Not worth $
Actually pretty bad at blocking

But I understand he's a tremendous salsa dancer

I agree with RFDC. This move is impossible to criticize. Well done, Phil Emery.

Well, instead we get bad, local college basketball to listen to instead of a host possibly getting some guests to break this guy down.

Here's the PFF buzzkill. Although he is #4.

Let's just hope that Aaron Kromer knows this guy enough to justify 7.1M per year and based on his reputation as a line coach you gotta figure they were confident this will be a good move.

Let's hope they are right.

How can any Chicago Bears fan be critical of the Bears signing of Bushrod? For 5 years Bears fans have been bitching about the Bears OL & that Jerry & Lovie did absolutely nothing to improve it. All Phil Emery does is sign a 2 time Pro Bowl OL, who is immediately the best OL on the team, & some folks aren't happy about it? Those who are criticizing the Bushrod signing are probably the same people who long for the Jerry Angelo days, when signing guys like Adam Archuletta, Orlando Pace, Chester Taylor, Brandon Manumaleuna, Frank Omyale, Todd Collins, not to mention the horrendous draft picks, was the norm.
I love what the Bears have done so far. We are finally going to see the Chicago Bears running a modern day Offense.

always entertaining when fans go crazy (positive or negative) for an offensive lineman signing.

the saints are like a turnstyle with shelling out good offensive linemen. willie roaf, carl nicks. bushrod's pretty good but he has a pretty good false start resume, too, if i recall.

charlie brown on the saints is just too perfect.

Um....

Pro Football Focus had Bushrod as the sixth-best free-agent offensive tackle, citing his consistency as a chief concern.

“Serviceable [as a starter] if you either accept his inconsistencies or have the right leadership and coaching staff around him to iron out those letdown games that seem to come along at least once a month,” PFF wrote.

Last season, Bushrod was rated 44th by PFF, just three spots ahead of incumbent left tackle J’Marcus Webb. He had six penalties (two fewer than Webb), gave up four sacks (three fewer than Webb) and eight quarterback hits (three more than Webb). But the alarming number is quarterback hurries.

Bushrod gave up 46 hurries, second-most in the NFL among tackles, just one fewer than Jonathan Martin of the Miami Dolphins.

Bushrod, though, did develop under Kromer, and the coach’s input certainly was weighed in the decision-making process.

But in fairness, they had absolutely nothing to do with Willie Roaf's greatness. He damned near stepped into the league at an All-Pro level.

Charlie Brown will be the next Saints Pro-Bowl lineman....I hope.

There is an obvious disconnect between last year and his overall numbers. If he was getting flagged last year, he wasn't in previous years. As we've heard, he is one of the least penalized in the league, overall.

And with it not exactly being an overall great year for the Saints, especially with the 0-4 start, I might not put so much emphasis on 2012.

Oh well nevermind then, case closed on this one.

But wait a minute. Comparisons to our beloved J'Marcus are not fair. The Bears were in max-protect almost constantly. Webb always had Spaeth or Adams helping him, plus Forte chipping for him quite often. That's the reason Webb's numbers aren't abominable.

Now with a real LT, you can add another receiver to all of your routes, and also not require Forte to chip. I don't think the Saints ran max-protect very often. Probably never. I would bet Bushrod never got help - the Saints tend to run a whole lot of receivers on most plays, and Jimmy Graham doesn't sit around helping the LT pass-protect.

Apples and Oranges. Webb is real bad. Bushrod is not. Massive upgrade.
