Yeah, well, the other day I was telling people to leave it alone, so I felt a little hypocritical and ditched it.

I miss the Southside Post-Game. Sometimes it was more entertaining than the game itself.

How long has Hood been in Chicago radio? He got bounced from the Score where he had problems with management. Schwartz threw him a bone at MVP and Hood blew that and he has no track record of good ratings. Actually, that makes him a perfect fit in the eyes of most PD's.

I don’t know, some crazy ass dude from Salt Lake City that killed a cop. The only reason I like it is because he was on the loose and on Headline News they gave viewers specific warnings to avoid this man at all costs because he could be armed and dangerous. Shiiit, you mean a guy on the loose, that just killed a cop, with tats all over his face that include a swastika in the middle of his forehead is someone I should be careful of...thanks for the heads up.

I thought it was Doug from Evergreen Park after 'letting his hair down' and getting arrested after a two week bender / tattoo buying spree.

How many times has McNeil been suspended? How many times has North been in trouble? Christ, even Happy Harry, one of the nicest and least confrontational guys in the business, has been put in the penalty box. Why does Hood have to pay infinitely for one lapse in judgement, several years ago. And by the way, while I don’t support the immaturity that was put on display, he had every right to be upset. The Score put him behind the 8-ball from day one in that slot. First of all, they give him Doug as a partner in the afternoon drive to go up against MJH. Doug? Are you kidding me? Nice guy to have around as a football contributor, but the guy has no business being on the air 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, 12 months a year. Then, they bring in Telander, whom apparently everyone was against, based on all of the celebration at that station following his resignation. Hood was put in a position to fail. The fact that he did not handle it well was and still is his problem, but I think he has paid the price, and then some.

By the way, he’s been thrown no bones at MVP. They rarely use him, and that’s a shame, because he has a lot of fans and the station is better with him on it.

Simply put, because he has never been part of the equation of a successful show. Even Teinowitz is on the number show in the afternoons, and while most of us see him as replaceable, no radio exec wants to mess with a winning formula without a damn good reason. Plus, they can't get rid of Tiny and not do the same with Mac, which would NOT happen at that time.

I liked Hood during nights at SCR before they had the Sox, especially his unofficial Sox post-game, but I don't know how well his show would fare during middays.

Stink,

I would be fine with him doing evenings, too. Middays are preferred for me, because I could listen more. But if he had a regular weeknight show, I would have no complaints.

J Hood seems to approach popularity only attainable by the Bears backup QB.

There was a reason Hood kept getting promoted at the Score. Even with Doug the show wasn't bad. For some reason the Score thought they needed a big name to attract listeners. From the very first day Telander came in you knew he was going to be bad. He would go into these long rants about things no one cared about but him. He would almost put me to sleep on my ride home. Hood and Doug tried to help in the beginning but soon Hood just gave up. In a contract year you never want someone sitting next to you that can diminish your value. Telander not only hurt his value but he might have killed his career. To top it off Telander decides to quit at the end of a show. Why does everyone else get 50 chances but Hood just gets one? Why did the Score care that Hood and Telander didn't get along? Why don't they care that Murph and Boers don't get along? Does race have anything to do with it?

The reason to get Telander was because MVP had Jay Mariotti. And because it was SCR coming to Telander he got to dictate some terms and others would go unmentioned, like "mailing it in" most days he was on the air. Having paid his dues Hood didn't appreciate the renaming of his program "The Rick Telander Show". The breaking point came when having been absent from the show several days (a frequent occurence) Telander called in as a "guest" to his own show. Hood made some remarks publicly and it cost him. Of course Telander decided to quit shortly thereafter.

Hood is on par with anyone else who doesn't have a program and a few that do have programs. I'm not trying to sound like a new ALS member but he is as deserving and qualified as anyone else in the market.

Created himself an audience. Conducted quality postgames. Created segments, bits, characters, singature sound. He had a style that wasn't over the top, very easy on the ear. By all measures of this particular listener he became a skilled pro who is just as good if not better than many of the airwave polluters they have on the Score now.

Well put.

I agree, I like Hood, but it's just funny that the grass is always greener once you get there(that was purposable). I'm in for Hood to get his shot, but my guess would still be that Colin Cowherd will move national and ESPN will tell the little Chicago market that they will listen to him.

I'm officially on the Hood bandwagon.

I have to disagree with this. In the early days of B&B, when they were on in the morning, I listened religiously. For me, some of the highlights of that show at that time were J Hood's frequent bits, impersonations and break-ins to the show. I'm not saying Hood was THE reason for the success of that show, but he was part of the equation.

When Hood left, much of the humor of the B&B show left with him. The show seemed to become more angry, more interested in dumb callers, and generally less intelligent and less funny with the producers who succeeded J Hood. I would attribute some of that to the choices Hood made as producer, because the producers who succeeded him clearly made very different choices.

He's Ken Mastrole with much more soul and broadcasting skills. ;)

How pissed would Hood be if Telander said he's spent enough time with his family and ESPN 1000 gives him the 12-3 shift?
