Baseball is a sport that needs to breathe a bit while it is being telecast and Fox tramples all over it with contrived drama instead of letting it happen naturally. At least in football they have to break away to show the wide angle of the play every 40 seconds. I have no doubt that if Fox took over the NBA my enjoyment of watching the leagues games would go down.

Right, I know they do that in baseball, and it's annoying as hell, but show me these basketball telecasts today that don't have extreme closeups of players and spectators and coaches and players again. That's what people praise about basketball: that you can see the faces. It's why it's commonplace to refer to players by their first names. They're right there, you see their facial expressions, they're not just little brightly-colored army men that run around when you say "go." Fox would do that, but I don't think they would make the ball have a trail of fire like NBA Jam when someone dunks. You can't see the spin on a baseball or always know for sure if it was a ball or a strike, hence the super-slow-mo-close-up and the PitchTrax and stuff. Basketball is pretty cut and dried, as far as a telecast goes. Do you see what I'm saying here?

Yeah I understand your point. But I think you underestimate Fox's ability to fuck things up. Just wait until the basketball breakdancing robots come out while people are shooting free throws.

I can see fox adding a animated basketball named Spaulding gives viewers tips on how to shoot free throws (follow through), 3 pointers (more arc on the ball...see), dribbling (use tips of fingers) and so on. Not sure what sound effects and voice they would use, but suffice to say they would come up with something. Damn ball would be a pain showing offensive 3 second rule and what constitutes defensive technical.

edit as fabulous phil already touched on the idea.

Think last night's debacle in Sacramento was bad? It could get a lot worse tomorrow night in Golden State vs. NBA Coach of the Year candidate Mark Jackson & his Warriors in Oakland, especially if either Kirk Hinrich and/or Taj Gibson remain sidelined. These Bulls will be lucky to score 80 for the game.

thats what i said before last nights game started. they might as well not even go west. just forfeit the 3 games and regroup. at least you would be rested.

this is the worst season since ben grodon left. i want to smash my head into the table.

Ike, the Bulls are now only 9-16 vs. their Western Conference counterparts. Hard to believe the Bulls were once a Western Conference team themselves back in the day.

Yeah, Snapper and Walton playfully jabbing at each other the entire game while Greg Gumbel keeps the peace. Those were some fun broadcasts. I miss the NBA on NBC period.

Do you get the feeling with ESPN/ABC that the NBA is just something they happen to have, while NBC took much more pride in it?

I do think so. I don't know if it's just my childhood nostalgia, but the NBA broadcast had a more "homey" vibe. TNA comes closer to the NBC vibe than ESPN does. The ESPN/ABC broadcasts feel very corporate and sterile.

I sincerely don't think they will lose the next game by 42. They will probably lose by 15 to 20 points because Bellinelli and Robinson won't be able to stay with the Warriors' backcourt and Boozer will get killed by David Lee.

I think it's a little too soon to be jumping off the ledge if you're a Bulls fan. Sacramento just had one of those games where they were invincible. They could have beaten Miami or any team in the league with a similar effort.

If anything could be said about the Bulls is that "The Bulls are who we thought they were. And nobody's gonna let 'em off the hook." Unless Rose comes back they will lose in the first round of the playoffs. It would have been easier if the team could tank the season, but Thibodeau would probably quit if they didn't make the playoffs.

The facts are that the Bulls haven't been able to make any moves for players and they really don't even know if Rose can still play. They have a lot of money invested in the starting lineup and even with an 80 percent Rose they are a superstar player away from challenging for a title.

That's a valid point, Mini. Even a bad team such as Sacramento, minus C DeMarcus Cousins due to a leg injury, shot the basketball lights out. I've always conceded there's very little a team can do when the opposition is shooting that well. The Kings shot a whopping 54% from the field for the game last night and simply couldn't miss.

I do still have a little faith that the Bulls can win their first round NBA Playoff series, and that Knicks' team is very beatable. Carmelo Anthony's knee is still bothering him to a point where he's going to miss some games down the stretch and they might actually fall even further themselves in the standings. The Knicks are currently the #3 seed, but Brooklyn is closing in.

As awful as the Bulls have played lately, they are the #5 seed in the East if you can believe that. Right now, they would get the #4 Nets in Round 1. Whether they get Rose back is still unknown, but if they can get Kirk Hinrich & Taj Gibson back, that would really help them moving forward.

If the Bulls are going to be the 5th seed they should tank and get the 6th or 7th seed.

Right now, they, the Celtics & the Hawks are all tied for 5th, 6th & 7th in the East.

It was only wishful thinking that they could beat the Heat. The Bucks guards can score, but they play very little defense.

As far as why Deng was still in the game. Thibideau is not a believer in garbage time. In the last few seasons there were very few situations when he would put in the scrubs any sooner than the last two minutes of a game. I think he's learning that he has to do that whether he wants to or not. But I think more than anything Deng was in the game last night to give some continuity. If he's not in the game and the Warriors get it down to 15 points then those starters are going back in the game.

Honestly, I was very surprised with the Bulls' effort last night. I don't think anyone saw a blowout coming. The Bulls completely shut the Warriors down defensively and they managed to shoot a high percentage. Honestly, in some of these games I would almost start Jimmy Butler at the 2, as that might help the Bulls have better defense from the start.

As for Monday I think the Bulls will have their hands full against the Nuggets. The Nuggets are not as good when they are not at home, but I believe they are very deep and could potentially blow the Bulls out at home if the Bulls are not defending the 3-point line and shooting a high percentage.
