MJH is pretty much all I listen to on ESPN now anyway.

So, does this mean daylight Rome again? Shit.

I'd listen to "Mac in the Morning" (maybe with Drinky & Peruke) on SCR. Maybe MVP would pick up North and it would be NJH in the afternoons...

I don't know if Dan would work out well in the morning. He seems better suited for 2-6, 3-7...

Am I the only one who thinks there is no way Mac is leaving? He'll just take his slap on the wrist as always and we'll be talking about a similar situation about a year and a half from now.

I agree Ivan. I would be surprised if he is not back on ESPN at the end of the month. I think the people at MVP realize his value to the station and Mac has, according to the paper and in T.O. terms, about 2 million reasons left to return.

Also, some of this may fall into the "all publicity is good publicity" area as July is pretty slow and he'll be back just in time to start talking Bourbonnais, August Cubs pennant race, and the upcoming championship season of Ron Zook and Illini football.

Publicity is generally always a good thing.. but in my case, this makes me less likely to consume ESPN products. I really dislike the way modern radio companies suspend people without notifying their listeners. MVP has been silent on this situation just as they were last year when Mac and Harry nearly came to blows.

Are we to beleive that all "vacations" are suspensions?

actually when i lived on the East Coast, listening to WFAN in NY was one of the most entertaining parts of the day (sans Don Imus). I know a lot of people find NYers insufferable--I do too for some part, but I found it fun...because of the listeners mainly.

Either some of you guys don't read the papers or you choose to misstate the facts to support your contentions. Teddy G reported that Chrissman did not complain and her husband did not complain. Comcast bosses complained. And it was also reported that Mac did not get suspended solely for using the "B" word, but for the overall personal attack and for past transgressions. Look..you can disagree with the suspension, but at least get your facts straight in doing so. False, strawman arguments are getting tiresome....

Do you honestly believe they didn't complain? Of course they aren't going to come out and make it a personal thing. I'm sure they were both absolutely fine with the comment and didn't go and say anything. They are probably posting on this board wondering what the big deal is about this whole incident. You would think someone like yourself that works in the media a lot would understand the public relations game. I'm sorry that I'm not naive enough to think that Comcast executives would come out and be 100% forthcoming on how the behind the scenes process went. I guess since Teddy Greenstein said it that I should accept it without question.

As for the personal attack, if he hadn't used the "B" word and just said she was a bad person he would have been fine. In fact, he's said something similar before. No use of the "B" word, no suspension, and I don't see how that could be argued unless he used a worse word. They call Shelly Smith a portly woman from time to time on the show, but if they called her a fat "B" word they would all be suspended.

You can say that our facts aren't straight, but it is not an illogical stance to take that the person who was called the name would have had a problem with it and talked about it with her supervisors or her husband may have had a problem and complained. I guess I'm not as willing to blindly follow anything I read in the paper as you are, especially when the source has something to be gained by the answer they give.

"Both Pastor and program director Justin Craig have called Christman to apologize, according to industry sources. "

Why would they call her if she wasn't the one to have the complaint? Shouldn't they have called the comcast executives instead?

Not necessarily, no. One doesn't have to complain for an apology to be offered.

I don't necessarily believe everything I read, no. Speculation, as you have done, is understandable. Blaming people like Chrissman and her husband, based on one's assumptions of things they might have done, rather than on facts, is a bit unfair. People (including me) say and do enough things that warrant criticism. We don't need to invent things they might have said or done.

I was responding to your contention that we were either ignoring or distorting facts. There is just as good of a chance that she did complain to her bosses, or at the least was all for the Comcast executives calling to complain, as there is that she didn't do anything and let management take care of it.

Not to throw the George Bush card, but when he got Scooter Libby out of jail, he stated that he thought the sentence was excessive. I also question whether that was his true motivation behind the move. In fact, in my opinion, that has almost no chance of being the actual motive. I can make a logical argument that it was not.

I feel I can make the same logical argument here, even though there is one of two sources that the original complaint came from. It doesn't make me inherently wrong that a Comcast executive said that neither her nor her husband(another Chicago Sports person) had nothing to do with it.

In general with this case, the only facts that are 100% proven are that Mac said things he probably shouldn't have, and he was suspended for about a month(even though he may have been paid for vacation time). Everything else in this case is subject to PR spin, private telephone conversations, and speculation. If every subject had to be only discussed with proven facts, most conversations on this board would be very short. Critical thinking can be used to fill in the blanks.

As for blaming them, my main contention is with ESPN and the fact that they are prolonging this thing for much longer than they should. The fact that one or both of these people complained makes ESPN look even more silly. If this had been a person at Starbucks who messed up the coffee order or even an ESPN employee, they wouldn't have done anything, but that is just speculation. This thing should have been over on Monday. He was suspended. He was off the air.

I would go further on what Comcast and possibly the Bears were threatening ESPN 1000 with but that truly would be speculation.

I think that Mac just wanted a little more time in Canada and ESPN is trying to spin some publicity out of it.

well...looks like two more weeks of getting stuff done around the house from 3-7.

notice that they bring him back two days before the Real Time Sports event.

bump my pariticipation up to 100% if Mac is still there on Thursday the 24th.

i have to agree with many of you though. I pretty much realized that I'm a Mac fan more than anything else. I dig the other guys and shows, but I will follow him to wherever station he's at and that show will get my P1.

I agree that it sucks for the listeners because that show isn't anywhere close to the same quality with him gone, but Mac was aware of the corporate policy, probably reminded of it several times because of his past suspensions, and possibly given warning of future issues, then, no matter how ridiculous the rules probably are (especially when compared to the Score), why is it unfair to Mac ? Maybe the rules should be changed, but that's what they are. It seems to me that Mac just doesn't have much self control, and the same rules didn't prevent him from signing on the dotted line when it came time to get that new contract not long ago.

Its only unfair to us.
