They never wanted him back at all and they gave him and offer they knew he would refuse so they could say it was he that wouldn't come back. No way Trestman wanted his influence in that locker room he has to win over. He won't get that money he wants but I think he gets a 2 year 6 mil deal with incentives.

Last year there were a quite a few impact linebackers drafted after the 1st round:
LaVonte David, Bobby Wagner, Zach Brown, Mychal Kendricks and even undrafted Vontaze Burfict. If Emery is Mr. Scout then he should be able to find suitable LB replacements at fraction of the cost.

Ok. It wasn't supposed to bother you. It was just a conversation.

Anyway, football is different than other pro sports. Players get paid for what they can do today, not what they did in the past. I'm personally glad there's not a 5 million dollar albatross on this team like Soriano or something. Urlacher was not very good last year. We all saw that he was not even really close to his former ability. Then he even got hurt again. He ain't gonna be good this year. It's not like he wasn't rewarded for his play in the past. He was. He did very well.

I'd love to have him back, and $2 million sounds like a great price.

I think Emery is doing a great job. If you wanted Urlacher back for big money, perhaps Hendry would be a better GM for your tastes.

He was still injured last year. You may have wanted him back but it's clear the Bears didn't want him back. I'm not so sure Emery is doing a great job. We will see what happens. IMO Emery is acting as if he has a track record of success. His coaching and personnel decisions are risky. If it works out he will be labeled a genius.

31 other GMs weren't rushing to sign Urlacher. We're 8 days into free agency. So I guess every GM in the NFL is stupid.

I don't have a problem with a GM acting like a winner.
And they did want him back. They offered him more than anyone else did.

Not sure what that means. Maybe those teams didn't want to do the Bears work or didn't have a defense that fits Urlacher's style. What we do know is the Bears don't have a MLB. There aren't any on the open market that will be better. They let go of the guy who could have stepped in at MLB. Getting rid of strong personalities so your voice can be heard is a sign of a weak leader. This Bears team is built to win NOW. They had/have the talent to win a SB next season. Don't piss it away by trying to show how business smart and tough you are.

They wanted him back at their price. Cuz the risk of him sucking at 2 million would be acceptable to them and their cap room. They would have had a backup ready to replace him and have been prepared to cut him.

That's fine. I disagree. Giving a HoFer a take it or leave it offer that is barely above the veteran's minimum doesn't say you wanted him back IMO. Most people won't buy what he's selling because he doesn't have a proven record of success. He seems to want to get rid of anyone who has a strong opinion.

Bears announced he'll no longer be a Bear about 4 hours ago. If other teams thought he was just using them to drive the price up for the Bears, that is now no longer the case. Plenty of teams run a 4-3 defense. You'd think any team that wanted him would sign him tonight or at the very least tomorrow. I doubt that will happen.

What is Urlacher's style now? Can run side to side very fast. Can't swing those hips well? Who's style does that fit?

Personally I would have cut Hester and offered Urlacher another million.1 year 3 mill + incentives? That's workable.

I think that will be a problem. Shea can't play MLB and something tells me Teo would have a hard time in Chicago and playing for the Bears. It is just my opinion. I hope Emery gets it right.

I always think worst case scenario in terms of GM's drafts and chicago.

I agree. I would still cut Hester or try to trade him now. Of course telling the world that he will only be a returner may have hurt his trade value. He sucks as a returner now too.

The Bears had no problem getting rid of Johnny Knox as well.

Really? Johnny Knox can't walk, is no HOFer, spent all of what 3 years here, as a specialty receiver...

He probably will go broke. And he's not gonna be able to bang the Paris Hilton's and Jenny McCarthy's of the world any more. Not that McCarthy is a good get now a days. But they only banged him cuz he was in the NFL and famous. Now he'll be hookin' up with white trash or really smart gold diggers. Either way they'll trick him into knockin' them up for pay days. He's still not smart enough to not knock up girls.

White Trash girl: Wanna bang? I'm not on birth control and I won't do it if you where a condom.

Urlacher: Uhh, OK.

White Trash girl: I'm pregnant!!!! It's yours. Pay me.

Urlacher: :x

(This will happen with 10 different women in the next 5 years)

He can't be in media. He can't talk well. He'd be a horrible coach and probably doesn't want to do that anyway.

My heart does not like the fact of seeing the Bears play this year without #54 out there.

With that said, I don't think this is over yet. If he thinks he is going to get a lot of money from someone I think he is crazy and could very well come back around and take the Bears offer.

I love the fact that the Bears are standing firm on their offer of 1 yr

I understand the business end of it but football isn't just about business. Giving a HoF player another million dollars so he can finish out his career in the same uniform that he started it in would have done a lot to help the Bears image. Once again they stuck it to a player that has been loyal to the organization for virtually pennies. The moral of the team has to be at 0. One of the things you could say about a Lovie coached team is they never quit on him. I think this team may quit on Trestman before the season starts and it's very unfortunate. When you have proven that you can win SB titles you can run your organization like the Patriots but Emery or Trestman haven't won anything yet.

No. The Bears image is fine. Urlachers image is shit.

I forget. How many times did he pout himself into re-structured contracts to get more money....which the Bears gave him...when they didn't have to?

Now he's insulted that he got a $2 million offer, when no one else is calling him and he cries foul.

"I'm not putting my body through another season for $2 million...for the Bears anyway..."

Perhaps he'll sign somewhere for $2.5 million (my guess is within the division).

He ought to give Olin Kruetz a call to see how that worked out....

Very pleased with end result, just wished. They would have publicly said 2 weeks ago "not interested " he ain't. Worth 2 million.

Hester should have been cut,Melton should of Never been franchised.

I think you are getting dangerously close to libel.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Biggie shut this one down because of you.
