I would say the overwhelming majority of fans wanted to see urlacher gone.

He can't play anymore. Every career ends and the player almost never knows when it does. Or at least he won't admit it. That's why Carlton Fisk was able to make Reinsdorf look like a heel when all he did was bend over backward to allow a busted down old dude get a record.

I understand the business end of it but football isn't just about business. Giving a HoF player another million dollars so he can finish out his career in the same uniform that he started it in would have done a lot to help the Bears image.
