He can't play anymore. Every career ends and the player almost never knows when it does. Or at least he won't admit it. Outside of dan bernstein, most fans are going to side with the players they worshiped rather than the rich owner. That's why Carlton Fisk was able to make Reinsdorf look like a heel when all he did was bend over backward to allow a busted down old dude get a record.

When the money wasn't so big, there was more room for sentiment in sports. Those days are gone.

I would guess the majority wanted to bring him back for "small" money.

They could have cut Fisk at home. Fisk is a grade A cock sucker, but if were talking bending over backwards...

He was becoming a problem. They really should have cut him before the season and let him find somewhere else to break his record. But they let sentiment enter into it and it became this petty bullshit about when and where he got released. It wouldn't be any different with Urlacher.

Well, thats my point.

If you're gonna keep him and let him get the record, just cut him 3 days later and save some PR face.

If you were gonna cut him on the road then fuck it just dont sign him at the beginning of the year

Understandable.

Every fan doesnt have to think and act like a GM. Some people just watch to be entertained and they see a guy who entertained them for years leaving.

I guess what I'm saying is he would have beefed if they had cut him at home, in a car, in a jar, or in a bar. He does not like being cut, Sam I Am.

Any apologists are dumb, probably the same guys who wanted Kerry wood back here.

How many times has he stated that it's a business? Except when it applies to himself, that is. Especially when he says he'll play for $2 million anywhere else except Chicago.

What is the opposite of a hometown discount called?

"I'm not putting my body through another season for $2 million...for the Bears anyway..."

Perhaps he'll sign somewhere for $2.5 million (my guess is within the division).

He ought to give Olin Kruetz a call to see how that worked out....

Very stupid comments by Urlacher. He never was anywhere close to smart about PR.

Save that money you made buddy 'cause your gonna need it!

Why should Urlacher get any sympathy from the fans when he said repeatedly that he doesn't care what the fans thing?

The Vikings said they'd only be interested in Urlacher if his asking price comes way down.

Another slap in the face at Urlacher.

I understand the business end of it but football isn't just about business. Giving a HoF player another million dollars so he can finish out his career in the same uniform that he started it in would have done a lot to help the Bears image.
Didn't they do that exact thing for him when they gave him new paper (when the Bears had NO reason to other than it was #54) a few years back? The ended up doing the same thing with Briggs.

If he had other offers, I believe the Bears may have come up...a bit. There was nothing out there, why should the Bears have came up?

They gave him an additional $5M because he was stupid enough to sign a long term deal that he ended up outplaying.

Doesn't matter. He signed the deal. Nature of the business. bears didn't have to pay him anything more. Sure, he could have held out but until he did that Bears didn't have to give him anything.

Urlacher was asking way too much anyway.

It is. That's why he asked for more money before he dramatically declined. I may be wrong but I don't think the league minimum plus $1M in incentives was a great offer. The more information that comes out it becomes clear that the Bears didn't want him. Having a replacement would have been nice.

Brian Urlacher has replaced Frank Thomas as the biggest Chicago superstar with the least fan support. This clown could have owned this town if he had been capable of being a decent guy. Unfortunately, he worked for a douchebag jagoff who was ok with treating people poorly.
