The two teams stack up similarly this season and, probably, will for the next few. The Sox have a veteran roster with legitimate title hopes while the Cubs make no pretense of competitiveness, marking time until their baseball-baby prospects grow into stars, or not. Right now they’re giving more thought to who’ll sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” at Wrigley Field than to who their third baseman might be. If the Sox can’t gain ground under those conditions, they probably never will. St. Petersburg, Fla., isn’t the option it was back in the ‘80s, but can you spell L-A-S V-E-G-A-S?

If you disagree (which I am sure none of you will) feel free to email the guy who wrote the article and ask him who his source is or why he is saying this, because once again, this is someone elses thoughts, not mine. :D

Can someone tell me if the White Sox are running in the red or black? Doesn't that make all the difference here? They have been able to field competitive teams for the majority of the past 15 or so seasons and I still see some talent coming up despite the constant complaining about how bad the farm system is. As long as that continues to happen, they will probably be at or around 2 mil in fans. If that keeps them in the black, its a lot less risky than moving to a new market, especially one where the economy has had huge negative impacts.

They have made some money. Last year wasn't one of them.

Biggie,do you really think the Sox will leave town or are you just trying to get under the skin of Sox fans?

I HAVE NEVER ONCE SAID THEY WILL LEAVE TOWN! EVER! THAT IS MY OPINION

If you read my previous thread about this, hopefully someone will be able to distinguish what exactly was said.

But, the fact that a writer who I dont know for my life touched on the issue, someone must be talking about something.

Looked at Forbes and it will be interesting to see the 2013 valuation (should be coming soon?) Again, would be curious to see how much interest will be garnered in Vegas. I would assume you have to depend on the tourism because I just can't see a lot of local interest. Wasn't Oakland considered a team to move there? They would make more sense to move than the Sox.

With the Cubs moving to Rosemont and the Sox moving to Vegas, Chicago is in some trouble.

There is a 2010 article...

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/aug/19/mayor-american-league-baseball-team-looking-las-ve/

"I can tell you this. I can tell you I've been advised that we are designated as an American League city," he said. "So, folks, if we get ourselves a team here, if it's not the Yankees or White Sox or the Red Sox, all of those folks will be able to visit us from those cities and fill the stadium."

If you read the tea leaves, of all the teams to mention with the Red Sox and Yankees...

If any team leaves for Vegas, it'll be the Cubs. Rosemont can't be a real option. Contraction would be wiser than that.

Hard to believe the sox didn't turn a profit any year. With TV,radio, merchandise and gate/concessions I don't see how.

Almost every team does this scenario thing with the President and GM.

If you give us X $ to spend we will draw Y. They provide a number of different scenarios with that simple scenario

In the case of the Sox X becomes (X+Z) and Y becomes (Y-W).

So the losses have not been huge and usually paid from capital reserves, but still a loss.

Yet, the point has nothing to do with them losing or making money, because every investor doesnt need the money and if any of the investors ever needed money they could sell their investment in the team for 50 times what that invested.

Still, they aren't moving.

I never said anybody was a liar. I'm just saying that because its on the internet does not necessarily make it true. 6

That's the important thing to the investors. This wasn't an investment from which they were looking for a yearly dividend. Those who invested wanted the ability to brag that they own a team and get good seats. The ROI they were looking for was on capital, and they are more than happy with those results.

I just helped to bury a guy who was a lawyer but Southside Irish through and through. He was a Packers fan because of the Bears roll in the Cardinals leaving Chicago.

"anymore" means you were a Sox fan at some point. What made to change your allegiance to the loveable losers?

God, I would never do that! I've just grown weary of Uncle Jerry and crew after 30 years. It wears on me.

In those 30 years, he's brought 7 Championships to Chicago. No other owner in Chicago sports history sans George Halas can even come close to that kind of success.

While I dont think they would move and never said they would move, the deal would be comparable to what they have here, thus not putting it past Uncle Jerry.
