At least, that is what this post from Blog-a-Bull believes (with comments on a recent B&B show): http://www.blogabull.com/2013/4/2/4173054/derrick-rose-return-is-rose-wanting-to-skip-the-final-step-of-rehab

tl;dr

Rose is allowing his brother and support group decide when he comes back. He believes that group has his best interests in mind, which is debatable.

OR...

Rose has unrealistic expectations (fear?) about coming back to play with a certain level of pain.

I heard "Waddle & Silvy" on ESPN Radio mention this a couple weeks ago. Those guys said that Derrick wants to score 30 points in his first game when he does come back. Quite frankly, I think it's asking a big much given how long he has been sidelined.

What I'm interested to see if whether Derrick Martell Rose has to adjust his game considering how much his body took a pounding before he tore his ACL in Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs a year ago this month vs. the Sixers. Will Derrick have to become more of a traditional point guard, a la the Clippers' Chris Paul, scoring fewer points & more assists? That's the real unknown at this point.

It's closer to this, but minus the pain thing. I think he's afraid to look average. He's used to being great and wants to come back at that level which is unrealistic.

He may very well suck for a few games...

He can come back in the fall of 2014 and it wont change. He is going to struggle when he comes back.

Rose should do what he feels is best for his career. He has to live with his decisions. If he is forced back and gets injured he will blame someone else.

I agree this is the most likely reason. Which means he needs a little head work in addition to physical rehab.

I love a good conspiracy theory, but I am not ready to completely blame Reggie Rose/BJ Armstrong for this delay (like many have chosen to do).

Well, Reggie didn't help with those comments he made. Should have known people would draw conclusions based on that alone.

True. To be fair, Reggie wasn't completely off-base with his comments. Still...

Devil's advocate question: Is there anything more to "ponder" regarding Reggie's adidas commercials?

Conns, Derrick may be a lot of things, but he's not stupid. He knows that the T-Wolves' Ricky Rubio & the Knicks' Iman Shumpert have struggled trying to come all the way back from a torn ACL.

I think in Derrick's case, he wants to become the Derrick of old. I'm not so sure that's possible at this point.

Would that not make him stupid then?

I don't want to hate on Derrick Rose but has it really been established he isn't stupid? He stabbed himself trying to eat an apple.

Mentally I think it has to be tough to be average when you have been great for so long. That's why a guy like Kobe will retire in the next couple seasons because of fear of being average to above average. That's not something that should be dismissed.

Okay, that was bad on my part. Derrick doesn't want to struggle like other guys with torn ACLs when he does return.

It's getting more and more difficult to not put Derrick into the "fuck that guy" pile.

That was slicing open a cigar so he could smoke a blunt.

While I respect that more he should really have a blunt roller on payroll so he doesn't have to worry about those kinds of injuries.

Right now, Noah has more of a right to sit out than Rose does.

Kobe will play until he has Kareem's record or 7 rings.

You don't think the obvious point I just made has any validity?

It may or may not. I really have no way of knowing or even having an idea if it's valid.

I don't think he cares about the scoring record. I honestly expect him to announce that next season will be his last.

Taj did what the team doctors told him and now he is back out with the same injury.

I would be stunned by that. I think the scoring record is equally important to 7 rings to him.

Taj's season might be over, guys, and that could include the NBA Playoffs. According to ESPNChicago.com's Nick Friedell, he said that Gibson's knee buckled on a non-contact play in the 2nd quarter of last night's second loss of the season in Washington. The Bulls are fearing the worst, pending results of an MRI today.

That's not an ACL tear though. Everybody agrees that Rose is not any greater risk of injuring his ACL whether he returns now or a year from now.

Basically, he has no right to sit out anymore. He needs to go play.

I was just tossing a little bit at the wall but I'm not in complete agreement. I would love to see him back now as a fan but he has to do what he believes is best for his career and shouldn't care about what I think or his teammates think. From all accounts he is close to being the old D Rose. Of course that could be exaggerated.
