1. His Berman nickname was "The future so bright I have to wear my De Shades" even if he doesnt know it! Which sent up the first red flag.

2. He is lackluster at best.

3. Close your eyes when he talks and I see Dave Otto, who would do the gig for $50K a year!


Still trying to give him a chance, but from interviews, spring games and the 2 so far. Got a ton of nothing.

So it was cold last night. I got it the first 30 times! Get a damn Jacket! Have a PA run out to the local Dicks Sporting Goods and buy jackets! Go down to the Dugout and have them get jackets!

This is coming closer to DJ and Farmer, than Len and Bob.

More than willing to reverse the thought! But time to show me why this guy got the job so easily!

No one really liked Len/Bob the first season or two. Took them years to develop the rapport that made it a great listen. Len/JD much better than I thought it would be after working around 6 hours together.

Yeah, we've all forgotten how brutal Brenly was the first year. "They should think about bunting here," irrespective of where here was. Then again, Brenly was returning to regular broadcasting after years of managing/coaching, while DeShaies has been at this with Houston for some time. I was able to catch Opening Day and I wasn't terribly impressed. I heard he was supposed to be funny. That was his big thing, that he was funny. Wasn't that funny!

He's more serious than I thought (given his rep as a kind of a wacky lefty) so no real complaints at this point. Not great but not annoying.

At least they didn't go cheap with some retread or somebody like Hollandsworth who just doesn't measure up IMO.

Thats my point. DeShais sounding like one of those guys. They arent terrible, they just dont bring personality to the booth in a good way.

Good point. Maybe he doesn't want to come off as super glib right off the bat as in trying to impress everyone in a major market.

Like I said, I'm just glad they didn't get someone absolutely terrible or some egomaniac.

i think he will be ok. it takes time. i think he will be one of those homespun sounding guys. not vanilla, just quirky and that's ok. now if we can get moreland from doing play by play. makes my ears bleed.

Would've been the worse choice imaginable. Wood was teammates with a bunch of guys still on the Cubs. He would've been incredibley vanilla and toot the company line. He needs some time away to get crustier and for new guys to get on the team.

DeShaies sounds OK to me. Just a vanilla type broadcaster with little spurts of humor. I can picture nodding off to a lot of Cub games this year,but I nod off while eating,having sex,working,driving. DeShaies not to blame there.

That's fair. He's quiet. Hoping it's still the feeling out process/he knows Len is so good doesn't want to step on his bits. When JD does contribute it's usually worthwhile though.
