the point is that facebook is a public forum. it's a literal "brag about something no one cares about". you are broadcasting anything you do or say, so you should be aware that it is being viewed by the public.

it allows private life to be tabloided, all very self serving.

and for those who are following my facebook statuses, i'm up to #5 for my list of my top 10 favorite siskel & ebert episodes. enjoy!

I'll be sharing my Facebook account information with one or two board members so that you can continue to post as Zombie Hoffy after I die. It should mostly be complaining about the worms eating my face.

It's kinda like the parent that drives around in the car with the "I am proud of my Honor Student" bumper sticker......okay, I can see why someone is proud of their child who accomplishes something worthy of praise. The originator of this thread is more along the lines of the guy driving the car with the sticker that claims "My kid beat up your Honor Student " bumber sticker. Someone who resents that he can't feel the pride those other parents feel about their kids. The parents don't just post stuff to show how proud they are. It's also to reinforce the behavior of the child. Letting them know they are proud of them, tends to reinforce their good behavior and prompt them to continue to do well in academics, sports or whatever else they are doing well in.

Jarrett Payton tweets under his 1 year old son's name, and I'm still trying to decide if it's ok or weird.

i'm all for praising your kids for their accomplishments and i'm ok with parents who post words of praise, congrats, whatever on their kids fb page. but, what bothers me and what prompted me to start this thread was the number of times i have seen parents post phony messages of praise that are obviously intended to brag about their kids. it's not WHAT they post that bothers me, it's HOW they post it.

They probably post in that fashion in response to people who are critical of their posts of praise that come off as bragging. However a parent wants to praise (or brag about) their kids.....if the kid is worthy of it, I'm okay with the reinforcement of good behavior, that may encourage that kid to continue to do well. Kids need to know that the positive efforts they make are noticed and appreciated.

My favorite bumper sticker is:

"My honor student is selling drugs to your honor student."

If that one existed (I have never seen one), it would evoke some interesting looks from the Dean of students, as one dropped their kid off at school. The sticker wouldn't make a lot of sense though. I have known very few burnouts that were honor students. Usually they were the slackers that performed poorly in school.

just because you can't see it, does not mean it doesn't exist. here's an example.

burnout? jeez steve, date your self a little more. why not drop a "jocks and greasers" every once in a while too...

and by the way, it's supposed to be a "joke."

A former police officer should know that anyway.

Okay, so there are enough parents of slackers out there to merit a sad bumper sticker market.

Yeah, I actually was cracking up a bit myself at the "burnout" reference. I knew it would not go unnoticed and that a response to it would be swift.

I just want to post here about all the hard work my 3 week old daughter put in to allow her to be in 99th %ile in length. They said she couldn't do it with a 5'8" father and a 5'7" mother, but she's proved everybody wrong. I glad she'll be able to follow in the path blazed by Brittney Griner and play in the NBA. I guess it's ok she'll be a donut bumper.

I bet there aren't many honor students that are cops either.

I was always on the honor roll, and I drank just about every single weekend starting during sophomore year.

When I went to Moraine from '01-'03, there were more burnouts in the criminal justice classes than anything else.

See, I was going to do that joke but I didn't know how he'd take it. Great minds think alike.
