Went in 2008 while I was still in college convinced three of my roommates to join me on the journey. Being poor college students we had no money for a hotel room so we decided to camp in Michigan City, Indiana about 45 minutes away. It goes without saying that early April in Northwest Indiana isn't exactly ideal camping weather and was made worse by a torrential downpour for most of the night. We eased our troubles by drinking copious amounts of Busch Light and smoking weed so we could be just fucked up enough to pass out in a half flooded tent. Wake up the next morning when the sun comes up at 6 so we can make it to Munster by 8 a.m. Friends drop acid in the car, I'm too jazzed up by the thought of Dark Lord to do anything. Get there and stand in line for the next for and a half hours for the privilege of purchasing 4 bottles of Dark Lord. Watched a very clearly drunk man fumble in his attempts to open his car door only to drive off 10 minutes later, dozens of people passed out in a field, return to the campground with the booty, listen to reports of a Matt Forte being drafted by the Bears as I watch an acid raddled friend attempt to chop a gigantic piece of wood with a hatchet. He harvested an intense crop of blood blisters and choked down 10 or 11 beers before vomiting violently near a barbwire fence that lined the campground. I ate cheap hotdogs cooked over a hubcap fire pit and drank until I was comfortable enough to sleep headfirst in a sleeping bag beside a fire primarily fueled by that vomit splattered fence post my friend caked with the leavings of alcohol that just would not cooperate with him. Someone tracked shit in the tent and we had McDonalds for breakfast the next morning.

Finally had the Dogfish 75 the other night - I wasn't impressed and would recommend staying away. Was it bad? No. But for the same cost as a 4 pack of Dogfish 90, that's a better buy. The hops are pretty muted, the brew was heavily carbonated and I didn't pick up any of the maple syrup use in the beer. I expected it to be more Hopslam like but it was in essence pretty basic and blah.

I've never had a Zombie Dust but at my liquor store the guys there put up a little tag on Two Brothers Sidekick as being similar to Zombie Dust because they both use Citra hops. I've had Sidekick and of course I'm incredulous of this comparison because of Three Floyd's penchant for making hop bombs.

Have you tried Sidekick? Is it in anyway comparable to Zombie Dust?

The first thing I thought after tasting Sidekick, was that they were trying to make it taste like Zombie Dust. It's close, but not quite there. I do enjoy it very much. In fact, I am gonna fill a growler of it later.

At 5:00 PM, Two Brothers will be tapping Day Man, the coffee collaboration that they did with Stone Brewing Co., on the firkin. Stop by for some tasty beer, and a chance to meet Chus, and some of his crew.

Sidekick is about 2% ABV off from Zombie Dust and not nearly the same body. Side by side Sidekick will seem watered down in comparison. I really don't think they were trying to make a similar beer, they just happen to use the same hops.

I was making my comparison purely by taste. One of the Heavy Handed varieties used Citra Hops, and it didn't taste anything like ZD.

So we went to Dirty Nellies last night. I see Sidekick on draft, so I order one. As he's pouring it, I also notice they have Zombie Dust on tap as well. anyway, Sidekick is fairly similar to ZD. I live very close to Nellies, so them having ZD and Gumballhead (bartender says they switch these from month to month) is awesome news.

My Guy at Binny's Bloomingdale talked me into Sidekick for the same reason. Compared it to Daisy Cutter.

Had some of this last night. Friend of mine had talked up the brewery for some time. Not bad for an IPA. Smoother, good bitter aftertaste, decent kick to it.

I can see how they compare in terms of body but that grassy thing that Daisy Cutter has going on, I've never experienced another beer like that.

I just had a Two Brothers 16th Anniversary Ale, from the Taphouse in Warrenville. It's a 16% ABV Belgian Strong Ale. Awfully good.

Stone Espresso Russian Imperial Stout. Awesome tasting beer. Pretty smooth for an 11% beer. Well worth the 6 bucks.

Good to hear. Wifey picked one up at Binny's yesterday.
