D.J. must have had some good shit in the bong today. When introducing Thornton, D.J. proclaimed that he has been a picture of consistency since being in a White Sox uniform. So, in '11 and '12, I must have just imagined that his ERA and WHIP have gone up, and his SO/9 has dropped.

At .136 /.174 / .295, I think it's safe to say this new approach he's been talking about is off to an auspicious beginning. SSS and all of that... that is downright brutal.

I wonder if they shopped him around this off season. It really seemed like a perfect time to me but maybe he wasn't fooling anyone. That Dunn money is a sunk cost and the Sox are kind in a little bit of a "wait until 2015" mode like the Cubs.

I don't think it's his approach it's his lack of offseason conditioning. He's fat again and his bat is as slow as it was in 2011.

I'll try to find some data, but the eye test tells me he's been swinging on 0 and 1 strike counts a lot more.

He's old. He's done. Before steroids, big oafs were done by 32 or so.

He may be swinging earlier in the count but my eye test tells me he's a fat pile of crap.

I think we both concur on both points...

Yeah i was going to look up some swinging strike data, but why bother. He's already at -0.7 bWAR. @ $15.mm/per.

Mercy.

Dunn is making me want to strike up the band and do the waltz with the White Queen.

I would think something more in the barbiturate/ depressant family. I'm not sure I'd want to be more aware and high-strung watching one of his at bats.

Dunn was light years behind a 92 MPH fastball for his second out of the day. 0-2 and looking real bad.

He was having trouble catching up to those a few years back.

He looks like a fat guy in a rec softball league, who has had a few too many beers.

Now I realize not everyone is on the WAR train, however I found this interesting.

Dunn now has 3 of the 4 worst 40 Homer seasons in MLB History.

Year Player..............HR...WAR

2008 Adam Dunn.......40...0.9
1998 Jose Canseco....46...1.6
2006 Adam Dunn.......40...1.6
2012 Adam Dunn.......41...1.7
1977 Jeff Burroughs...41...1.7

They should bench his fat ass. Play Danks in center, move De Aza to left and DH Viciedo. Danks can't possibly have worse at bats and they would vastly improve the defense. Maybe a couple weeks on the bench will help get him motivated to lose those unwanted pounds.

He'll probably sue the Sox for making him run.

Just have the candyman go and interview him on camera and he won't look so fat and out of shape.
