Quote:
The Cincinnati Reds had a guest bat boy named Ted Kremer, a 30-year-old with Down syndrome, for their game on Thursday night in Cincinnati. Ted performed his duties flawlessly and was also the recipient of a special granted wish. Before the game Ted had asked third baseman Todd Frazier to hit a home run for him.

Frazier recalls the moment:

“He’s so funny, he said, ‘C’mon, hit me a home run, I love you.’ I said, ‘I love you too, I’ll hit you one.”

In the sixth inning Kremer got his wish when Frazier launched a 421-foot home run which you can see below.

Frazier knew as he rounded the bases that Kremer would be the first person to greet him, and he was.

“It was great how excited — that look,” Frazier said. “I started smiling even before I hit home plate because I knew it. They said he forgot to pick the bat up, so the umpire was yelling at him. It was such a great a great guy. You can’t get mad — even if you have a terrible day. How can you be mad when you’ve got a guy like that around?”

In a rough and emotional time around the United States, it is calming and reassuring to see something like this.

He should have asked Frazier for 2 homeruns, or to catch a ball in his hat.

Saw this on Sportscenter this morning. Great images and they interviewed the guy after the game. I thought I
read somewhere else that he got to escort Miss Ohio to the mound when she tossed out the first pitch but I
could be wrong on that part. Either way pretty great story. The bearhug Frazier gave him in the dugout was
completely genuine.

What I meant of course is that it would have been easy to give a half hearted "thanks buddy" hug.
Frazier picked this guy up and squeezed the shit out of him. If he had a boner I didn't see it. Come
to think of it it would be really uncomfortable to get one with a cup on. All my years wearing cups
in sports that never happened to me.

I saw this posted on Facebook and it's well worth a shoutout. The reaction of Frazier and the Batboy ( calling a 30 year old a bat-BOY, is a bit odd, but thats his title) as he reaches home plate and then all the expressions from the batboy afterwards are exceptional. Great stuff...

Too good of a story to be lost in that thread. This needed its own deal.

I was at the game in the scout seats. That kid was the goods, very serious about his job.
