W&S referenced a proposed trade in which the Bulls would give up Butler, Mirotic, Boozer & the Bobcats pick for Kevin Love? Would you do it?

I'd say yes but I don't think Minnesota would do it.

Would not. Love is always hurt and I like upside of Butler/Mirotic.

I think you give up whatever you need to in order to get an impact player, but I don't know much about Love. Does anyone know if he is in the same league as second-tier impact/star players like Westbrook, Anthony, or even Rose? I know he puts up insane numbers, but since I don't watch him I don't know if those numbers are really indicative of super stud status.

butler is a stud. the guys mentality alone is going to keep him playing, and hes just big enough for the nba so i think thats a pretty valuable piece right there, even if superficially he doesnt seem like it.

that bobcats pick is pure gold. fuck that, its a diamond with a ball of gold in the middle.

kevin love is not a sure thing.

take out butler or the pick and i would do the trade.

I would do that trade in a second.

Stars win in this league. Not just good pieces like Jimmy Butler.

I agree. I used to feel the other way, but after watching the Heat dominate the previous 3 seasons, it shows that a bench doesn't really matter. You can just fill in with cagey veterans as long as you have your team with a couple stars.

PF-Love
SF-Deng
C-Noah
SG- ?
PG-Rose

Bench - Veteran filler

Yes please.

I'm convinced Butler can be that starting 2 guard. I'd be more willing to include Deng in that trade, as he's broken down.

I maybe overreacting after years of Paxson reportedly turning down deals for stars because he fell in love with his role players.

I wouldn't say he is broken down, but I would agree that moving Deng at this point in his career is the better option. The only problem would be that the Bulls would have to take back another big contract in the deal.

You do that trade, and you do it quickly. I'm a fan of Jimmy Buckets, but I'd love to see the Bulls front office "go for it" at least once in my lifetime.

Unless you are 15 years old or younger, you might wanna rephrase that

Are you referring to Dennis Rodman?

That and every other move they made that led to winning 6 titles in 8 years.

You think they werent "going for it"?

He didn't word it as such, but I believe he was talking about the post-championship regime.

Partially.

The Bulls drafted Michael Jordan. They then traded for Scottie Pippen after the Draft. Low-and-behold, they become two of the greatest players of all time. Possibly the best duo ever. The addition of other players around those two was secondary.

So, no, I don't believe the Bulls "went for it" during that period because they didn't have to.

Technically they did go for it in 2010 when they cleared cap space to sign LeBron and one more superstar. They just failed. They also failed spectacularly in 2000 when they swung and missed on UFAs Tim Duncan and Tracy McGrady.

But we have not seen a major trade that would qualify as "going for it," which is what any trade for a star player in his prime would be.

I can agree with that. They tried and they failed. Not entirely their fault. However, I don't think anyone would disagree that the Bulls' Front Office has been known to be "tight" with their wallet.

Cartwright, Kukoc, Brian Williams, Rodman, Steve Kerr, Ron Harper

Of course they went for it

And the Rodman move was a huge gamble at the time. Nobody wanted him. If that deal would have ended up going south for the bulls, they don't win all of the second three peat.

I disagree. With the possible exception of Rodman, I wouldn't call any of those players a star-caliber player that was being heavily recruited by other teams at the time. They just needed to add players around Jordan and Pippen. Today's Bulls team doesn't have the luxury.
