You had the right age but the wrong guy.....Long is going to be 25 during the season. Gotta love those 25 year old projects.

So he's playing out of position. Explains why he was a backup at Oregon.

Does this sound EXACTLY like Chris Williams to anyone else?

Did Oregon ever run the ball? You basically just drafted a guy who had to play 1H of football each game as the didn't have to run block and the opposing DE was always worn out in the second half because of Chip Kelly's pacing

I could roll with McClellin last season, I see the potential.

This year, I'm not so sure. But I'm going to hold out that the rest of the draft will produce.

I don't think Carimi is the future at guard and the FA moves have been more stopgap than long term. So. I'm going to wait. Doesn't mean any criticism isn't unwarranted, and I wait to hear what is said.

For the first time in years, I don't know the upside of a Bears #1 pick.

"Emery says he doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about past picks that didn't work out."

He better change that way of thinking. He will have plenty of them.

WHY???? WHY???? I may set the alarm early. Mully is going to have a field day with this. Good Score day tomorrow.

Oregon ran the ball a ton, but I'm not sure if that run blocking will translate.

They ran but the lineman didn't really have to sustain their blocks. Maybe the Bears ipads are loaded with Chip Kelley's offense.

Has a 2nd-3rd round grade to me, but hey, I'm just a fan...

Kyle Long (OG), Oregon

6-6 | 313 lbs.

Selected by:

Chicago Bears (1st round, 20th overall)

Strengths:

Long has the ideal height you look for in an offensive lineman. Uses his long arms to keep defenders away in pass protection. Long's flexibility allows him to get low and explode from his stance. Extremely mobile for his size, using his speed and agility to hit his target in the running/passing game. Plays with an attitude, standing up for his teammates and not backing down from a challenge.

Weaknesses:

Very raw and still learning the nuances of the game. His position still isn't defined, having played both tackle and guard at Oregon. Tends to have mental lapses whenever the opposition blitzes. Struggles to keep his hands inside. A DUI while at Florida State led to his dismissal from the school.

Fit for the Bears:

It's no surprise that Phil Emery and company looked to improve the offensive line in the draft. Long is an impressive athlete that comes from a football pedigree. His father is Hall of Famer Howie Long and his brother, Chris Long, is a defensive end for the St. Louis Rams. His nastiness on the field could just be what the Bears need to bolster a poor offensive line. Long's stock continued to soar after his final season at Oregon and his talent was too great to be ignored by the Bears.

I guess I mean a traditional run. Lot's of read option. Very little of what the Bears will need.

If you have enough alcohol there, you might just keep drinking until you die. Just saying, it's an option.

Phil Emery's Pick: I what? No shit? Jackpot. Where's that dude with the string on his glasses? I'm gonna give him a special hug.

Well, that's the thing. Ok, you like Kyle Long. Fine. Pick him later. Why are we once again reaching? Jesus christ.

Nah. Not happy with the pick.

Although it does seem odd to me that people seem to be more upset this year than last year. At least this year they drafted an offensive lineman. They still do need help there.

But I would have rather had Eifert or a LB

And he will trade away the 2nd round pick (no 3rd). So there is no way in hell they actually get a difference maker this year. Just a bunch of projects and special teams. That was your one pick to get a starter. Or at least an heir-apparent. There was good, no-risk talent there. Guys who will play 10 or more years at a high level, at worst.

I'm not going to pull up last year's first round thread. I'll just say you are wrong. I like this pick better than McClellin for whatever that's worth. At least Long has actually played the position he was drafted to play

HE DRAFTED ANOTHER PROJECT !!!!! Sorry for the caps but for fucks sake, the Bears are not in any position to take these fucking reaches. 2 FUCKING YEARS IN A ROW. Emery seems starry eyed over combine numbers. It is almost impossible to comprehend. Another Angelo in the making.

I need to go see what Dewskie thinks of this pick.

He'll be the beacon of optimism I need.
