I think he failed out of FSU as a baseball player. But it's still pretty tough.

He had substance abuse issues, never threw a single ball at FSU. He had to go to rehab. Check out the Yahoo video, explains it pretty well.

Are there any videos out there of him actually having to sustain a block beyond a quick 1-2 second punch block? NFL rushers are going to be bigger, faster, stronger, relentless and will have multiple moves.

Not if they're named Shea McClellin! Oh, wait...

Thanks. Few really nice highlights of chipping an LB and then getting to the safety coming in to spring a long run. Guy can move for sure.

It would be nice if this guy blows Carimi/Webb/Scott out of the water and earns the RT position out of camp. I have a feeling he won't even get the chance and will be immediately a guard.

The LB from KState or the TE from Stanford are who I would like

Jonathon Banks, CB, Miss. State (6'2", 215) a little slow but that should not be a problem if Tucker is going to continue the more zone type of coverage. Obviously big and physical corner who contributes in run defense. Even with the speed issues the guy was fast enough to play corner in the SEC.

I think that is probably who they are targeting.

I'd take Te'o over him. I'd go-

Te'o
Banks
Alford - undersized CB with great speed. SE La.
Minter -LB LSU
Brown

If Teo is somehow there at 50, I wouldn't hesitate to take him.

Bears GM Phil Emery was asked How Long is a Chinese ruler? He said can he play football like the other Longs?

I don't think many people hated the player so much as where he was taken. If the Bears had traded down to 30/31/32, snatched a 3rd rounder, THEN used their last 1st round pick on Long, it would be easier to swallow. Having Emery take him at 20 then shout about how he was on top of their draft board really boils people's piss.

Exactly !!!!! If you only have 5 picks, you don't reach on your 1st round pick. It's not that fucking hard to figure out.

But then again, Emery found Shea Mcllellin, so what do I know?

Emery likes going against "conventional wisdom". He is trying to prove something to people. I would have drafted a WR. The Bears were exposed last season when the rookie went down and they had no one that took over that spot. My first two picks would have been wide outs.

The fact that the majority don't like this pick can only mean it will work out just fine.

I remember when the Bulls traded Oakley for Cartwright. Very few thought that was a good move. Sure worked out didn't it? Only the stupid criticize a draft pick so soon. I guess that if the talking heads didn't criticize they wouldn't have anything to talk about. I hope Long makes numerous Pro Bowls so all the idiots can eat crow.

Bud.....it's not that it's a bad pick. It's the spot in which Emery picked him. It's a reach, plain and simple. Not a value pick.

I think you're missing the point of 95% of the criticism.

Agreed. That trade 23 years ago in a different sport tells you everything you need to know.

I don't know. I think there is room to say a 25 year old who has previously turned into a raging alcoholic at the first sniff of success and only started 5 games in college is a bad pick.

I stand by my analysis and Hub should have as well.

The Bears are clamoring for DB and DT this year. Meanwhile, they had the top players at each position available to them last year but passed. They chose an OG who, admittedly, played well but who also was outplayed by an OG on the opposite side who they got on a low coast FA deal.
