The man can never be happy with what the Bears do. I would love for Hampton to throttle him once during PFW when he declares how much he's a Bears fan.

Last year at this time, he butchered Emery for not shoring up the O line. So, 2013 draft, the Bears select an O line player, and what does he do?

Butcher Emery for not addressing defense.

The man needs to finally go away from broadcasting. He's just out of touch with the sport now. For Chrissake; he thought the Chiefs were going to the Superbowl last season!!!!

They were both 2 pretty dumb picks.

Plus did you really need to specify the 2013 edition? Isn't every edition of Hub a deutschebank?

I don't think Hub was upset about the Bears drafting an offensive player. He was pissed they took a project. He wanted the team to take Tyler Eifert or whoever the best FOOTBALL player on the board was at the time of their pick.

Correct. He was also upset at the fact that Long isn't worth the 20th overall pick. If you trade back, pick up another pick, and take him around 30, I don't think people are as upset.

Which, at the end of the day, is only his opinion. His opinion is also Dick Juron was a phenomenal coach, and that the 2012 Chiefs were going to win the Superbowl.

Hub needs to go away, and soon. His whiny axe-to-grind-with-the-McCaskey's is about as annoying as Ditka's axe-to-grind.

Take him with a grain of salt. At least he has an opinion on things.

Hub Arkush is the best NFL analyst in Chicago, & he is a very good show host. Hub, as well as everyone else in Chicago was unhappy with the Bears first round draft pick. He was unhappy that the Bears reached early for a project player who was projected as a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Hub was right to want the Bears to pick Eifert with the first pick. I like guys who aren't afraid to speak their mind like Hub, as opposed to Zach, who is a Bears kiss-ass, & its so bad that other Score hosts make fun of him for it.

Hub is MY GUY!

Hub's a dunce.

Doesn't appear that someone listened to Bears programming when Hub will still employed by the club. He was ZZ. I still remember his "guard dog" dogs on the Dick Jauron Show. Hub appears to have picked up this discerning eye post-firing -- and that's my issue with him.
I don't totally agree with Stone Poney's shots at the Cubs, but he hasn't turned a complete 180 -- like Hub did -- when it comes to discussion about the team his former employer.
That's what makes it so much harder to truly digest what Hub says, but it doesn't seem to come from an somewhat-objective place.

What if "Hawk" gets axed by the White Sox and then becomes a much-more crticial baseball observer of the Pale Hose. Same thing. Not that any of these guys are truly genuine in nature, but these types of flip-flops ring come from a basicallly jaded premise.
The other thing is the whole "senior" part of his title with The Score. Is that the case with any of the station's sport-specific "experts"? That label appears to come from a self-important need that Hub seems to carry with him.

Because I can.

Hub is the biggest attention whore. He made that statement hoping it would he played everywhere and trick people into thinking his opinion is relevant. He keeps saying how he new it would be "the soundbite". What a fucking tool.

Nomination heartily supported!

Hub's performance on LoHo's post-draft special last night was absolutely abysmal.

1) He had no idea why Marquess Wilson, a probable 2nd or 3rd round draft choice prior to 2012, slid to the seventh round. He needed LoHo's producers to call up a story explaining that Wilson had accused Mike Leach of abuse, a story he later recanted. This information is readily available on the internet and could have been obtained with a modicum of effort.

2)He had no idea who the Bears UDFAs were. It never occurred to him to investigate this information prior to going on the radio to talk about the Bears draft?

3)He had no idea why the Bears might've selected Cornelius Washington, other than to say he has "great athleticism." Hub then slammed the pick because Washington has a DUI and didn't produce at Georgia. Hub was apparently unaware that, according to multiple accounts, Washington performed very well during Senior Bowl practice week, dominating some first-round offensive linemen.

4)He began the show by apologizing to Phil Emery for saying he had "blown the pick" of Kyle Long. In the next sentence, he said he wasn't backing off his statement. The guy contradicts himself so much it's sometimes almost impossible to figure out what he is actually saying.

I'm not sure why the Score employs Hub as a "football expert"--last night's show was just the latest of many instances demonstrating that the guy doesn't care about the quality of information he brings to the radio. The station would be much better off employing someone like Sean Jensen, who seems to have excellent contacts around the league and is very articulate.

Agreed with everything you said about Hub, but wanted to second your praise of Sean Jensen. Really enjoy him.

Yes, Hub seems to have fallen off his game the past couple of years. I wonder if he has some personal distractions going on or maybe he just doesn't care. I mean, not to know the Marquess Wilson story is inexcusable.

Sean Jensen is a real pro. Poor guy has to cover various things for the Sun-Times. Can you imagine Brad Biggs having to do Bulls games? (Although in about a week, he be outscooping KC Johnson)

The other thing that irked me about his discussion of Marquess Wilson was that at one point he implied/strongly suggested that Wilson shouldn't have gone to play for Mike Leach given the coach's reputation. Hub therefore thought Wilson's apparent fickleness was yet another example of his poor character.

Hub was clearly unaware that 2012 marked Leach's inaugural season as WSU coach and that he was trying to jettison players he didn't recruit from the team so he could free up scholarships.

I agree with a lot of what Hub says. I can't stand Cutler and he's not crazy about him either. He was of the opinion they shouldn't have given Forte a long term deal, but slapped the franchise on him, if they couldn't make a good deal. He says they reached for long at #20 and I agree. They guy has opinions and can back them up. I think he does a good job. You may not agre with him, but he does his job well.

Thank you for typing all of that out, Midge. I listened to most of the show last night while getting in a little workout and making dinner and found myself looking at the radio in disbelief on several occasions. He's not just billed as the station's football expert, he'd billed as "Senior Football Expert." Knowing this stuff is his job, that's ALL he has to do. He was ready out of the gate with his apology that wasn't actually an apology but wasn't prepared to answer questions from callers or Laurence. It was embarrassing.

Another thing that often makes me PTFB on him is his "gigglespeak." He'll often start laughing/giggling while talking even though he's not saying anything funny.

Not only is all that information available, it is available in the publication THAT HE EDITS AS HIS PRINCIPAL OCCUPATION.

He could have walked in the room and done nothing but reread PFW to satisfy his obligation to his listeners.

with even the slightest bit of work he could have blamed Wilson by saying he couldn't even be satisfied in a pass happy offense like Leach's

Heh, heh. Listen, guys, drafting is not an exact science. It never is. Some try to analyze it to death and there is merit in that, don't get me wrong, but really, these teams, and they all know this, know it's a crap shoot sometimes. Is there such a thing as a sure can't miss prospect? Sure, there is. But again, not always. Phil Emery took a chance on this Kyle Long kid. I do like him as an athlete. He has tremendous potential. But was it really worth a first round pick? Again, I don't know. No one does. But sometimes you do. And this could be one of those times. But really, who does? Well, maybe Dick Jauron. Heh, heh.
