Is he still an employee of AM 1000? Maybe he's far enough away for Boers now?

Maybe if he would show his raging rectum off-air personality, he'd fit in at WLS.

That's where Mike Murphy actually started "Fan Talk" before joining The SCORE, circa 1992...The Big 89.

I just didn't see his bio on the AM 1000 site, and I haven't heard him on the weekends. Don't know if he was ever a part of "Talking Baseball". Just wondering.

Murph is long gone. Last time I saw/heard from him he was commenting on Santo's HOF induction with Kaplan on some special.

I think he has burned all his bridges.

To bad.

He just doesn't fit anymore with the approaches of the score and ESPN. He likes his skits and gags. We all know how bad and uncomfortable who ya' crappin' is, no one wants four hours of swami Murph, sports spurts, etc. When it comes to talking about actual sports-related material, there are probably 20 other people I would prefer to listen to over him, including Lawrence Holmes.

He would be perfect if a 3rd sport talk station emerged. As to LoHo over him, no fucking way.

Even if a third station emerged, he still wouldn't fit.

Sports radio listeners are much different than they were, at least if you look at the way ESPN and the Score are formatted. Murph would do well in a market where listeners were not being bombarded with information, where he could have uninformed arguments about his feelings on a player or rip management and where his gag bits would be new and fresh. Stations like ESPN and the Score are marketing their product via interviews with experts. Fans seem to clamor for the landslide of expert information about their team or about a league. Then there is the whole fantasy aspect that has arisen. Its a whole different ballgame from when Murph and North were popular. He could also never fit in the category of being near and dear to a listening audience, the way MJH was.

There will come a time for a station to zig while the Score zags. Their experts are horseshit.

I can't speak for football, but on the baseball side, I really never had any longing for the likes of a Ken Rosenthal. I've seen all the Arkush hatred and I can understand it. I assume guys like Arkush stay on these stations for a reason. There doesn't seem to be much love for Arkush nationally as evidenced by a quick google search on him.

MurF would fit perfect on a WGN CUBS based 3rd station

Need to do something for the not losing the 60+ crowd you have already

Guys, there was talk about a third Chicago sports talk station a few years ago.

Long before Indianapolis-based Emmis Communications sold the now defunct Q101 & 97.9 The Loop to Merlin Media, Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan & White Sox/Bulls' Owner/Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf were said to be in talks to create a proposed third sports talk station on the FM side. The proposed third station would've featured play by play of both the Sox & Bulls, as well as the likes of Steve Dahl, Mike North and others filling in the other gaps during the broadcast day. For economic reasons, the plan never materialized, and both of Reinsdorf's teams ended up signing long term extensions, with the Sox staying put on 670 The SCORE & the Bulls staying on ESPN Radio 1000 respectively.

I think the big question regards The SCORE. Will CBS Radio, WSCR's parent company, borrow a page from Boston's WEEI and expand the sports talk to BOTH AM & FM? Will SportsRadio 670's format possibly be simulcast on one of CBS Radio's struggling FM outlets, much like WBBM simulcasts its all-news format on BOTH 780 AM & 105.9 FM? I still think sports talk on the FM side is coming. I'm not sure when though.

couldn't really stand him, but he'd be a perfect counterpoint to B&B's unrequited Theo and Jed man-love. And maybe in the end he'd be right this time.

Wasn't he also right about McF-A-I-L and Hendry?

Seriously though, this outcry for Murph shows how bad the current ESPN and Score lineups are. Murph was/is bad. Just bad.

I listened to a lot of Murph (before I really got fed up, which was when he left) and he didn't start picking on McPhail till he was in way over his head. And I'll defend Hendry before I defend anyone else outside of Dallas Green who's been a Cubs GM.

DAVID KAPLAN was better than Murph. Totally disagree.

His disappearance, then eventual reemergence, now once again disappearing is just strange to me. Obviously there must be SOME sort of market for him, right?

As much of a drama queen as he could be, I have to admit that his show was a familiar blanket I always enjoyed hearing....from that old timey open to all the spurts and thin books, he always put an effort into his show and that alone says soemthing in this day and age of people just showing up as the mics get hot. I know, I know, that whiney dude from NW Indiana shows up at 6am to prep for his show....but I'm talking about people with actual talent who ALSO choose to prepare for their show.

Seems to me that he could find some sort of foothold in the podcast world.....there's no denying the volume of Cubs fans out there, although I guess getting them to figure out how to download an audio file is a whole 'nother issue.
