No, the Crapitals have inched back into the playoff race because the Jets are completely tripping on their dicks again. They'll probably win the division and lose in the first round to the Senators.

Because Hawks don't have the holes they do.

Not really. Good for faceoffs and shootouts, but not much else. It's not a move I would have made, since he can't replace Bolland at #2 center and can thus only bump down Shaw and/or Kruger. Winning faceoffs is important for a possession offense, but...man, I dunno, not feeling this one.

For weeks now all I have heard is that the only thing the Hawks need is another guy who can win faceoffs. Supposedly that was their only tangible weakness. Wouldnt this obviously help that?

I guess so, if they do what they would do with Madden by the end of the season/playoffs, which was to have him win a draw and then hustle off the ice for someone else. I suppose they could do something similar here, having him win faceoffs on behalf of Shaw and Kruger.

It's still possible that Bowman makes another move today, since he traded Philippe Paradis away simply to open a slot on the 50-man roster.

Ott, Ribeiro are the more common names. I guess they have a brief conversation with the NHL Coyotes about Yandle, but their asking price is crazy.

Oh the Coyotes can go fuck themselves. They're all but mathematically eliminated from the playoffs and all but mathematically eliminated from Phoenix. Watch the NHL let them trade for someone so they can finish 8th.

Maloney is also the same guy who said he'd sabotage the new owners and fire-sale the whole team if he found out they'd move to Winnipeg. He can especially go fuck himself.

Hawks get two impact players this week from what I've heard.

Pens add Jussi Jokinen for a conditional 6th or 7th pick. They've added Iginla, Morrow, Murray and now Jokinen.

The 2013 draft been all but surrendered (1, 2, 5 all traded).

For all those additions the didn't solve their issue of swiss cheese defense and bi-polar goaltending. Just can't be a believer in the Pens in the playoffs with their plan to outscore opponents. Those teams always crumble.

It was never in doubt. Carcillo isn't letting them lose game 1.

Actually I was half watching. Its a 1 vs. 8 matchup. Like an 8 seed could ever win a series!?

Apparently he wasn't watching the game when they mentioned about 50 times that the Hawks lost to the North Stars as a 1 seed years ago.

Or the Kings last year, an 8th seed all the way to the hoist.

Not to mention Carcillo

Having two rest days really mitigates the "wear Ryan Suter down to a nub" factor, sadly.

Two days rest? When did hockey players get as spoiled as NBA players?

They're having a lot of trouble with scheduling because of the late start. NBA, concerts, stuff like that. Game 2 would be tonight but the Bulls had priority.

There are some back-to-backs as a result, too, which are rare in the Stanley Cup.

Why not play the game outside?

Why do the Bulls have priority? Jerry? or is it the NBA always has priority thing?

Actually, based on the playoff structure at the time, the North Stars were the 4 seed. Back when the NHL was made up of divisions and conferences named to honor the builders of the league, the playoffs worked from a division format, to conference final, to Stanley Cup final.

There were only 21 teams in 1991 and the North Stars finished 16th. Basically, you didn't qualify for the playoffs so much as get disqualified for finishing last in the division (and second-to-last in the Patrick). They were a 4 because of the 1-4 seeding, but they were fucking wretched in the regular season. They won 27 of 80 games and finished with 68 points. That's disgusting. With point inflation these days, you can barely even finish last in the conference with 68 points, to say nothing of making the playoffs.

Great uniforms, though.

EDIT: on the note of really bad teams, the NHL is long overdue for a team that just shits up the joint for an entire year. You could say that the Oilers have been really bad for years, but actually, they kinda haven't. I'm talking like '75 Capitals (8-67-5) or '81 Jets (9-57-14) bad. If the Sharks dismantle their dying star of a roster and have to call up all their 25-year-old NCAA anti-prospects, they could do it, but they never will.

Just turned it on. 2-2. A little disappointed it's not 5-2.
