I think all 3 of the guys are very , very passionate in what they do and having met a few radio guys over the years they are the most fan friendly guys you ever want to meet. Silverman and Carm are two guys I can say the same thing about. Even Northie was a fun down to earth guy we had a few pops with at Batsta Pasta one night.

Getting Big Timed by Steve Dahl some 16 years ago when I went up to him at a bar in Joliet to tell him I was a fan and extened my hand and he turned away and ordered a drink and ignored me and my wife was the biggest dick move anyone could of done. That was the last time I ever tuned into the piece of garbage.

Mac actually held me and hugged me when I put my hand out to say hello. :lol:

Harry has had some good 1 liners the last coouple of days. Maybe his imperfections are highlighted since Mac is gone but I think the 3 of them work well together, no need to fix what isn't broken....

I don't doubt for a second that Harry is a nice person. I also cannot deny that he does add to the show. Maybe it is just the frustration of having to hear the equivalent of Harry and Spike during drive time over the last month.

That's the problem with the show - when Mac isn't there, Harry is allowed to be more of a dominating voice, and some of his ideas come out. Harry on MJH works fine. Harry without Mac (or another strong host) becomes bad listening.

I'd agree.

Do you ever get the feeling that his warm & fuzziness is a little phony or contrived? Not in a bad way but more of a used car salesman kind of way.

Before 1969 I could take or leave the Cubs. But that season, the vast majority of Cub fans I knew became truly intolerable with their over-the-top Cubbiness. That team got exactly what they deserved, especially Ron Santo with his stupid heel clicks.

Now, 38 years later, another generation of insufferable fans have crawled out from under their North Side rocks strutting and crowing about the greatness of their team. Harry T is among the worst of that new breed. While it is obvious that this year's Cubs are good, the ridiculous Team of Destiny crap is completely uncalled for. And the truth is that Lou Piniella is just the greatest manager since............. Dusty Baker. Given that comparison, he looks good. Being in 2nd place in a weak division does not qualify anyone for the title of "Best Ever".

Harry is just an accessory.
When added with other voices, he seems to blend in at times.
He just can't lead a discussion. He rarely brings a fresh and informed look at a subject. He either takes a reach or just repeats some tired lines. He seems like a nice enough guy.

Most of the time I've talked to Harry he was hammered so it's hard to tell if he's a hand-job Spaulding. :wink:

I'm kidding.

I've been down to the station a few times and Harry was kind enough to give me a behind the scenes tour and show me around which he did not have to do. I think that was the second time I had met him and I thought it was very classy of him to do. Grid , OPV and a few of the other guys in our fantasy leauge held our draft at the station with Jurko and Mac last year and again Harry came out and hung with us and got us coffee and water and made us feel very welcome down there so I think Harry is "What you see is what you get" type of guy.

I think everyone is a hand-job at one time or another or a salesman at some point and espcially in the public eye such as what MJH do but like I said I think all 3 guys are pretty grounded and down to earth.

Boy, was this a hand -job post !! :lol:

Can you tell I'm in sales? :wink:

Slapshot, there's no denying that 'when at remotes' Harry is the "King of the Room".

And let's just say that 15% of the people listen to MJH because they like Harry's over the top love of Chicago teams and his sense of humor. That's pretty significant in the ratings.

Mac has said and this was in the past, so I don't know if he stills beleive's it, but he said that him Harry are like brothers, Mac and Harry always are the one's together when they go on their business trips, like to Boston, or when they followed the Sox. I will say that if one's missing Mac and Harry do some of their best shows ever, especially during a football season, when they bring the college talk. I just wish they didn have to ruin it by bringing in a special guest like Jiggets, Pleasac, or somebody else and just let these 2 guys do the show.

Why is it that hosts have to be overly negative on all subjects or over the top optimistic? This goes the same for broadcasters.

Harry is a tough listen. His few moments of witty comments are overshadowed by his blind love of certain teams. The thing that drives me most nuts is his pretend love for the White Sox. Very few hard core Cubs fans cheer for the White Sox. It seems like an acts to me.

At least Jurko and Mac are true to their teams.

Harry is simply not funny and he continuously tries to force bad jokes and humor into the show. It always sounds forced, staged, and it simply doesn't fit.

I agree Mac needs a person on the show to challenge him and be a Cub fan and all that... there just has to be someone better for the job than Harry.

Anyone else catch Harry's attempt at humor in Sunday's Sun-Times? When they asked a few people (Biggs, North, Paxson, Harry) what people should do while they're down at Bear's camp, Harry mentioned not to wear a Chmura jersey around the local high schools and to try lighting up a cigarette to see how fast the rent-a-cops will run to stop you. Even in the paper he's not that funny.

Harry is a comedian, and he'll hit and miss on the air because he has that opportunity since he's got 4 hours to share with Mac and Jurko. I think sometimes he is pretty funny, he gets in some oneliners that are hysterical but it's all about timing. I've heard comedians on talk shows, and they are very good in limited roles--but when they're given free reign like Harry is, they go too far most of the time and aren't very funny.

Harry's "fandom" gets agitating at times because I think he's doing it more as an act than he does really believe that the teams he roots for can't ever lose. I like the Sox, but I don't ever talk about them the way Harry does because my true loyalty is with the Cub. Even if he is being honest about it, it's just kind of annoying to listen to.

I like him with both Jurko and Mac because they seem to call him out on bad jokes, stupid thoughts, etc.

Slap Shot ED, that's a good way to describe it, although a hand job from Harry doesn't thrill me. I'm glad he seems like a good guy. The few times I've met him he's been too schmoozy for me. Not in a jerky, sleazy way just too saccharin.

I used to be anti-Harry, but then after I met him I was less anti-Harry. Maybe he's a natural but I met him once and the second time, months later, he remembered my name and that I live in the city, etc. I thought that was fairly impressive. I think there is an element of salesman schmoozing that goes along with most any radio personality.

Oddly, Harry made no mention of 'keeping your pants up while in public' at Bears Camp.

The last time I saw the Tiny One at Bears Camp they were around his ankles at some bar/grill on a couple of occassions. The depantsing purpetrator learned first hand where Harry got his nickname.

i like harry generally. his over the top team of destiny crap is really starting to wear on me, especially because this team of 'destiny' isnt even in first place right now in the worst division in baseball. but anyway...he seems like he genuinely cares about the listeners and such (if not he is one hellavan actor), and he does add some funny parts to the show with mac and jurko around.

one of the comments that made me laugh hardest was when mark buerhle was on earler in the year and he was talking about gettin his wife pregnant and harry asked him if "when you're trying to procreate does don cooper have to come out half way thru and talk to you"

That is another issue altogether. I have no doubt that if Harry was offered the opportunity to be in movies regularly he would dump the radio gig in a second. The same is true about a real stand up career. There is nothing wrong with having to do a job to put food on the table.

However, I feel with Harry like I do when I get an actress as my waitress at a restaurant.

I don't single out Harry for this as the same is true with Jurko.

Maybe that is why Mac is so good at what he does. He is a radio man through and through. This is his vocation and he has worked for many years at being great at his craft.

I remember sitting by the radio as a yout on a Friday night (because of punishment Martin, not because I wanted to) and wanting to jump through the radio to choke him. Even at the beginning of the HFC, he was not all that great. At some point, it all seemed to work and I have been a big fan ever since.

As for Coztansa, what's more annoying? Hearing Harry talking about the second place Cubs who are 3.5 back in the worst division being a "team of destiny" or ESPN jumping on the NY Yankees bandwagon while they sit 7.5 back in the AL east, saying that the Yankees will make the playoffs?

they're both bad, and i expect love for the yanks from the mothership and cublove from harry. however, harry is ready to print WS tickets while ESPN is just ready to print some playoff tickets. a fine line maybe, but if the yanks were continuing to struggle all we'd hear about is "whats wrong the the yanks and how do they fix it 24/7"

so i guess its dammed if you do dammed if you dont type of thing. im not saying, im just sayin
