My parents are looking to buy a roughly fifty inch TV. Obviously they don't need all of the trappings of modern technology, but does anyone have any suggestions? I thought this thread could be useful for others as well. This is one I found interesting from a referral.

However, I do not support Wal Mart.

I suggest getting an LED over and LCD. It's slightly more expensive, but expense is a concern you'll likely make much of that back in terms of energy costs and I think it looks better too.

Actually, looks like there are similarly priced LED's to the one you posted. http://www.walmart.com/ip/LG-55LM4600-55-1080p-120Hz-3D-LED-HDTV-1.4-Ultra-Slim/21693006?findingMethod=rr

I'm partial to Samsung because of how well the previous tv I had worked (and Lebron being a spokesman) but LG and Vizio are both good options too.

If you're looking at Samsung, you might want to consider tigerdirect.com, some of the ones I was looking at we're a few hundred dollars cheaper there than at Walmart... Just an FYI...

Tigerdirect sales a lot of refurbished stuff...be careful.

As I have mentioned here before,I bought a 46 inch Westinghouse LED TV. The picture is fantastic. I also have a 32 inch LCD Westinghouse. Very happy with both.

I like Vizio for being the best value.
Costco has prices as low as anyone and they throw in an extra year on the warranty for free.

I used to think Vizio was the way to go but I've read too many bad reviews from people who've had problems a few years after purchasing.

We have about a 9 year old Sharp Aquos LCD that has never given us 1 problem. Also have heard good things about LG.

My RCA LED is pretty solid. Albeit, it's a much smaller screen, so IDK how their larger models look.

I recommend LG.

They ended up going with this one. Thanks! They actually found it on their own. I can't believe how cheap, and how streamlined, television options are these days.

Thanks to everyone else for the feedback.
