I suspect Dan sees the Wirtzes as he sees Crane Kenney. I think the Wirtzes are actually from Kenilworth, too, whereas Kenney just seems for all the world like he is.

I hate to be one of the guys crapping up the "let's bring together the Dan ALS and the Dan detractors TOGETHER" party, but jeepers.....only thing more confusing than the visceral, emotional, reaction by Dan and drinky is the almost unanimous reaction here ("Dan is right" and "Dan nailed it here".)

But that is one of his favorite things to do - take a hot topic, find something from one of the other party's past that would provide some sort of evidence of hypocrisy - repeat it 49 times during that first show - profit.

Is Dan REALLY that stunned that an organization doesn't view some bobblehead on the local cable outlet in quite the same light as a legend? I get his overall point, and the hypocrisy is there for all to see, but is he REALLY that "let down" and "bummed" that the Organeyezation would lift Hull up while not-so-silently requesting that Comcast remove an replacement-level talent from the shoot-the-puck bit?

I don't give a crap about Hull, I really don't, but for Dan to NOW suddenly be so outraged over his employ with the team "because" of why they requested that Collins be fired? Well, what are you doin' Wegner? Hull's a prolific scumbag, much like Kane, but he scored a bunch of goals so that (combined with history) tends to gloss over some of the women beating...........until, that is, Dan finds a current event that happens to be related THEN he is sickened by their continued endorsement of the once exiled Hull.

Yeah, I'm pretty surprised everyone in the thread is universally praising the column without mentioning the very obvious part that Collins and Hull aren't even anywhere near close to the same in stature to the Blackhawks. It was obviously wrong and hypocritical, but the outrage over her firing has come across as really phony as well. Since when have professional franchises not had double standards that directly reflect how important the player is to the team? Every single team that anyone on this board has ever watched or rooted for has had double standards in regard to player conduct that they'll tolerate. Ok, let's stop feigning outrage now. Cool.

I'd say Hull and Kane have done more for the Hawks than Collins or Mora ever did so they're given more latitude.

Thanks for not reading.

But that's why I didn't think it was a good column. Telling pro sports teams not to hold double standards on their employees is laughably naive.

Any response from the #Blackhawks would be nice. How can they fire @susannahcollins and still employ Bobby Hull?

I think the Wirtzes are from Mundelein/Ivanhoe.

Also, on some level dan may see Collins as being in the same business as himself, and as such chose this incident as the spot to turn on one of Chicago's millionaires.

NO SHUTTUP THATS TOTALLY DIFFERENT

Sure seems different to me, but then again I bothered to actually read the details of both people.

Hull's a drunken wife-beating hockey player. Marshall's a mentally disturbed wife-beating football player. Continued employment of the former is occasion for a stern lecture about moral consistency. Continued employment of the latter is occasion for rejoicing that the Bears are finally willing to flush moral consistency down the toilet and pick up a big black stud.

You gotta add in the qualifier then. When Gordon Beckham bats .230 for a month, I don't say, "that was a good month", I say "that was a good month for Beckham"

First they came for Josh Mora, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't breaking stories.
Then they came for Jen Patterson, and I didn't speak out because Nick Boynton wasn't busting a nut in me.
Then they came for Susannah Collins, and I didn't speak out because I didn't make fun of black people not eating pussy.
Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me. Speak more for me! Stop speaking for me!

I'm almost 100% sure that Dan doesn't give a shit that the Blackhawks choose to trot out Bobby Hull when it suits them but I'm also sure that Dan thinks Hull is a piece of garbage. His outrage makes sense in this context because he's been given a reason to talk about Hull. He writes an internet column and hosts a sports talk radio show, he needs at least some context if he's going to go off on a rant and that's what the Collins firing provided.

Finfer was the same way on Saturday afternoon, almost comically so. He said that Collins was fired, which means she's out of a job (I was impressed by how he connected the dots on that), and that while Rocky Wirtz has great power, with great power comes great responsibility. He was very melodramatic.

I had felt icky about the Bobby Hull ambassadorship even before Susannah Collins got fired. I mean, I think it was the right thing to do to publicly Bury The Hatchet and all that, but every time I see him mugging at one event after another, I just think "Jew-hating wife-beater." Or, in other words, someone who isn't buying enough White Sox tickets!

Why did Berns wait until a 2-bit Comcast broadcaster was fired to go after Bobby Hull? Hulls past transgressions have been public record for many years. Why doesn't he go after Brandon Marshall too? Does Berns really think that he is bigger & better than a Chicago legend like Bobby Hull? Bernsi's grandstanding is pathetic.

Bernstein's holier than thou thoughts are always irritating, but I at least agree with the premise on this one. Unless he starts crying on air. Then I'm done.

Does anyone really resent Bernstein for what he's done to this show? He's completely hijacked it and made it all about himself. It pisses me off to no end that Boers allows him to do this.

Alcoholism is as much of a disease as whatever Brandon Marshall had.

Fair point, but at least Marhsall is TRYING to control his problems and admitted he has one.

Hull is just an asshole.

He's a friend of my buddy's dad so I see him every couple years at a wedding or something. He's an asshole.

I mean he's nice, but he just enjoys the worship a little too much for my taste.

Marshall still has it.

IT doesnt go away

But I dont think there is hypocrisy there. Bernstein isnt openly calling for Hull's firing independently, he's reacting to the Collins firing.

If the Bears fired Zack for some racy pics surfacing, Im sure Bernstein would bring up the Marshall thing.

That describes every pro athlete or famous person I've ever met. I think Bobby is a pretty good guy unless you happen to have the misfortune of marrying him.

See, I disagree.

Of all the athletes and superstars I met, he's the only one who had an air of "yeah I deserve this"

I don't think there is hypocrisy in that stance. It's a correct one by the way.

It's just that Bernstein cherry picks when off the field stuff matters. It matters a lot for Tebow, Hull, Kane, and the current Ray Lewis. It doesn't matter for Marshall, Vick or Ray Lewis or pretty much any football player that doesn't openly talk about religion.

I would really find it amusing if Collins was hired by NBC 5 to cover sports sunday with Sir being told his services were no longer required.
