Rick is correct.

He would have been making relatively nothing for like 4 more years if he didnt sign an extension

Never doubted it being a good/great deal..

While Nobody is forced to sign such a deal, most pro athletes have fully committed to playing a sport, thus most have no other options in life to ever have any chance to make millions of dollars. Yet alone a normal wage.

Thus negotiating with any athlete, when you are offering him millions, is really not such hard work.

The team gets the "value" of the deal, which is why they make the offer in the first place and the player receives lifetime financial security (for most) .

I would like to Frank for taking the time to explain to me "value" and high finance deals. I am sure his vast knowledge base on the subject of agent commissions, present values, annuities and baseball arbitration processes is such that I would not be able to have a clue as how he sees these issues.

The list of players offered such deals and they dont take them is very short...John Danks comes to mind, he is lucky the Sox kept offering him something and he signed the next year. Other than that, I am quite sure almost every player if offered a guaranteed dollar$ over the next 5 years, would sign today.

"Hey, Scottie...don't sign this 7 year, $22 mill deal I am handing to you right now with the pen, don't sign it....no...no no...Please don't...." Remember when Jerry tried so hard to get Scottie NOT to sign that deal, but NOPE, Jerry couldn't stop him.

You have to think getting a contract done this way avoids a lot of potential friction between the players and the front office that comes with arbitration. Dealing with that shit each year has got to be taxing on everyone.

This is an angle the agents use to convince the players. Not that the convincing is a hard topic.

If you are an agent for a rookie, usually you are getting 2%-4% of his $500K. $10K, split that with your firm and all the expenses associated with the deal and it is nothing.

The agents want these deals as much as anything. 2% x $41 Mill = $820K fee. Much better day!

FYI, Arbitration for anything is actually a tough process.

Value is a part of this, but knowing exactly what he will be owed for the future is equally, if not more important.

You would need to get schooled on basic grammar and punctuation before you attend my class.

You have a degree from where exactly Frank?

Nowhere, is that correct?

I should check my typing, grammar, etc on the message board to impress who? You?

No thanks, I will focus on being correct on investment packages and proposals. Things you will never see in your life.

Great deal for most anyone on the planet, crap deal for Rizzo. Yankees paid Carl Pavano that much for 9 games.

Probably being a 6th round pick and not getting the 7 figure bonus earlier round picks get played into Rizzo's decision-making, but the chance for a career ending injury to a slugging 1B is far less than a pitcher or say a speedster outfielder. He'll probably end up in litigation over this with his agent after year 4.
