I'd be happy if "could" is replaced with "will".

I'd be happy if he kicks ass in training camp and has a pro bowl season at guard...

He is due like $2M this year and I think another $1M is prorated still from his signing bonus, thus I think he might be a $3M cap hit, even if he is cut this year. This is actually what might save the guy, that you have to pay him this year...so might as well see if you can get something out of him.

If he does get cut, it is really a huge mistake on behalf of the entire Bears scouting staff....the ones that Emery has kept most of Angelos staff and drafted Kyle Long.

The one thing this staff does not have is Mike Tice, giving Kyle Long the personal approval! As Tice's kid was Carimi's roomie at UW!

This post is all over the place. First of all, the current Director of College Scouting Marty Barrett (16 years with the Bears) is in his first year in the role. Previously, he was an area scout for the West. I doubt he had much influence on drafting Carimi, as Wisconsin wouldn't be in his territory. The Midwest area scout that likely was responsible for the initial grades on Carimi, is Jeff Shiver (been with the Bears for 26 years). He is now the Asst Director of College, but his focus is pretty much the Big Ten. I doubt he had Oregon.

Most importantly, it's ultimately up to the GM to make a decision on the specific player. Angelo drafted Carimi. Emery drafted Long.

I think Angelo ran a full consensus his last 2 years. While I agree it is 100% on him, you cant deny your OL/OC coach knows your 1st round pick personally for the past 4 years, gotta put a ton of stock into that.

Fact is, it was a bad stock pick! to date

Not sure on that. I know Lovie felt he and his staff didn't have enough input on draft day. They collaborated up until then, then it was Angelo's pick.

And Tice knowing him I'm sure mattered. Wasn't disputing that. Was targeting your commentary that seemed to suggest the scouts that were held over were responsible for both picks.

Yes?

You in the back row, do you have question on what prorated means? Or is the basic math an issue?

I don't know why they wouldn't give him one more shot at RT to battle with Webb. Webb is lazy. If he feels he has a starting position locked up, he will once again come into training camp underprepared.

As Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago.com reported, Carimi hasn't worked out with the team since April 18, the conclusion of a three-day veteran minicamp. Instead, he is working out on his own in Arizona, and on Monday, he was the only eligible player who didn't participate in the Bears' first organized team activity (OTA).

Good way to ingratiate yourself with a new coaching regime.

I was reading this as well this morning. He is basically asking to be cut by doing this and I think they will oblige.

Didn't Bernstein mention something about Carimi being injured all last year, and that was the reason for the lack of leverage/strength? I also remember him saying the Bears were still high on him because he played through the injuries last year. Am I imagining this?

Good, he sucks. Let him get pancaked elsewhere. Great pick Jerry, first round buster competing for backup guard position.

I think Tice had a huge influence on the Bears selection of Carimi. This one isn't all on Angelo.

The Carimi pick was celebrated by at least 75% of Bears fans.

Everything falls on Angelo, he is the guy who allowed that kind of a move to happen.

I would say Lovie gets some blame too, as I think the power the coaches got was via Lovie.

It;s understandable though. Big time OC coach, Tice, telling you the kid is going to be a good and Tice knows him.

How do you not listen to Tice? I would say if you dont want to listen to Tice or you disagreed with him, then he should fire Tice at the same time.

Angelo must have agreed with everything Tice told him

I am disappointed in the Carimi pick to say the least. Hasn't there pretty much been a love of Wisconsin's O lines in general though? Maybe an easy pick to miss on. Not like an O lineman from Western Texas Abilene Christian or whatever.

Angelo had the final call on every single pick. The coaches had VERY little input on draft day. I'm sure Tice pumped him up, but it was Angelo's decision, and as the GM, he's responsible.

And if you're suggesting Angelo didn't want him, and Tice did... and then still drafted him, then Angelo is an idiot.

And?

Did I miss a paycheck from the Bears? Im a fan, not the GM. Im not paid to make those picks.

Draft people considered Carimi a safe, low floor type pick. I liked that because Angelo had issues with first rd picks.

The only 2 OT's that come to mind from the Badgers are the high 1st rd pick Joe Thomas of the Browns and the 7th rd or maybe even undrafted Mark Tauscher of the Pack who is now retire after a pretty good career as starting RT for a decade.

They have a ton of Centers and Guards though that have done well in the league.

Yea, mostly Guards. Recent picks like Moffitt, Urbik, Zeitler come to mind.
