And if you're suggesting Angelo didn't want him, and Tice did... and then still drafted him, then Angelo is an idiot.

The coaches had little input on draft day? What does that mean exactly? Draft boards/rankings/strategies are finalized well before draft day. Further, throughout his tenure, Angelo conducted a "collaborative" player evaluation process in which coaches' opinions were highly valued. According to Mike Mulligan, picks like Danieal Manning, Dan Bazuin and Michael Okwo were made based heavily on Lovie's input--he loved their athleticism and versatility.

If you're suggesting Tice didn't have a huge impact on the Carimi selection, you haven't followed the reporting on that draft choice. Carimi was Tice's hand-picked guy. Tice's connection to Carimi via the former's son has been discussed extensively on sports talk radio.

And yes, I do think Angelo ran the Bears organization poorly. After it was established that Lovie is/was a poor talent evaluator, he should have limited his influence on player selections. He also should have been more careful about drafting injured players in the early rounds, especially after the Chris Williams debacle. Overall, he exhibited problems with his drafting philosophy and in the way he structured the Bears hierarchy. We'll see if Emery is any better.

Carimi not reporting to first day of OTA's to train in Arizona. Pretty strange decision with a new coach and all

I had to remind myself the concept of "Scoreheading". I provide this for the rest of the class that might need an update as well.

As it was written by Darkside. Not sure which chapter of the good book this was from. Maybe Hank knows.

Verb.
1. To take a personal opinion and assign it to a specific population.
No one in the Bears locker room liked lovie
2. To take a personal opinion and assign it to everyone, often with little to no evidence.
No one at the score respects or likes meatpants and no one in Chicago likes him either.

Noun
1. A prognostication or prophecy in which there is no basis in fact other than a belief that ones opinions reflect the general populations opinion.
Mitt Romney will win in a landslide.

Separate offering by Northside Dan. Chapter still unknown.

3. To speak in absolute's despite often there being compelling evidence contrary to your opinion.

Do we know that Carimi was a bad pick? Right now, the only thing that we can say for sure is that he's either been injured or recovering from an injury for most of his NFL career.

That's why she shouldn't come back to the board. Highly unlikely she'll be right about two things in that short of a time frame.

This is why I held out hope that he could still turn it around. I thought the Bears medical staff screwed up his rookie year by holding off on surgery bc they felt he could help later in the year if he just rested the knee for a while. They waited so long to get the surgery done, it set him back going into the next season's training camp. He wasn't given a decent offseason and it showed as he began another season behind schedule.

Spaulding or someone linked to some scouting reports that downgraded Carimi as a pass-blocker, which seemed at odds with the Bears trying to get OL help to protect Jay--hence bad pick. Plus the injury history. The guy the Packers took a pick or two later, Derek Sherrod, sounded like a better pass blocker, but then he broke his leg mid-way through his first season and missed all of last season.

Still think the Bears should've used a late round pick for a QB this season, the Arkansas guy seemed like he was cut from the same cloth as Cutler. He even has the same last name as the Seahawks QB, Tyler Wilson.

http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/sports/T ... 09021.html

Quote:
With just three rookie minicamp performances this past weekend, former Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson made his presence known.

Though he barely knows the playbook, the rookie has caught the eyes of the coaching staff and the media.

Read one headline on NFL.com Monday morning: “Could Tyler Wilson push to start for Oakland Raiders?”

best part, the Raiders de facto No 1 QB this year was the Seahawks presumptive starting QB last Summer:

Quote:
Matt Flynn, acquired from the Seahawks this offseason, is penciled in as the team’s No. 1 quarterback going into this summer’s training camp, but GM Reggie McKenzie and head coach Dennis Allen say holdover Terrelle Pryor will be given an opportunity to compete for the job.

After drafting Wilson in the fourth round, McKenzie said Wilson, too, will get a chance to compete, but he doesn’t want to rush him.

“I want him to learn the playbook first,” McKenzie told the San Francisco Chronicle. “Make sure he gets behind the center and not the guard.”

Seriously, Reggie?

I'm suggesting, via my friend's dad who was a coach on Lovie's staff, that the coach's input was never valued like it's been made out in the media. In fact, it was a huge point of contention between Angelo and the coaching staff. The way it was explained to me, was that the GM/Coaches relationship in regards to drafting, was much different than how it works for the vast majority of the rest of the league.

And again, it doesn't matter how much input Tice had on the Carimi pick. It's Angelo's job to make the pick. He's responsible, period. If Angelo didn't like Carimi, and drafted him for Tice, he's crazy and a really bad GM.

I don't know about that pick specifically. I know the coach's never felt their input was valued enough.

My primary point is, it doesn't matter how much or how little input they had. It's Angelo's pick.

Do you think Tice wanted Carimi, and Angelo didn't?

Coach who worked under Lovie saying coaches not to blame for bad pick. Well, that's a pretty shocking thing to happen. I expected that it would be "You know that terrible pick that was made, yeah, it was our fault".

I don't disagree, but this sentiment was shared with me long before the Carimi pick. My commentary is not specific to Gabe.

But all in all, the team employs a scouting department, it's their job to scout and draft players. To suggest Tice had any more influence than the area scout, the scouting director and the GM in any draft pick is crazy. It's ignoring an entire draft structure.

I don't know the specifics on Gabe, but common sense would suggest the area scout, dir and GM all trusted the pick. Their jobs are evaluated on the talent they scout and draft. I just can't imagine them all saying "well, we all have Carimi graded as a 2-3 round pick, but Tice loves him. Let's take him in the first."

This.

Angelo openly admitted he was a "consensus builder" which led to a lot of his issues. It's no secret that Tice spent a ton of time on the UW campus because of his kid and his own rapport with their coaches. I have little doubt that Meathead Mike had his paw prints all over this pick.

I'm not doubting Tice loved Carimi. I know he did, that's obvious. But to give him more credit for the pick than the guys who have the job of scouting and drafting is misguided, IMO.
