Final time these two teams will ever meet in the playoffs unless the Stanley Cup is in the building.

Hawks swept the season series 4-0, although 3 games went into OT or a shootout. These are two teams that ideally want to play a similar style of game. Babcock might realize that's a fools errand in 7 games against Chicago and I wouldn't be shocked to see him play a more conservative style than Hockeytown is used to seeing.

The Hawks have an edge at the forwards. Top talent is more or less a push, but the depth in which the Hawks will come at them will prove crucial over a long series.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg are every bit as scary as Toews/Kane. Abdelkader is good for at least one annoying goal. Franzen has lost a step but will park his ugly red ass infront of Crawford every game. Honestly the Hawks have more top end talent and a much better 3rd and 4th line. Keys to watch will be the Hawks 3rd and 4th lines going against the 2nd and 3rd D pair for the Wings. Should be able to create plenty of good chances.

The defense is a more decided advantage and is why many are picking Chicago to win.

Kronwall had a pretty decent series against Anaheim, but when that's your #1 dude you send out, that's no bueno. The Hawks speed should be able to make a not that physical Detroit team play on their heels all series which is exactly why Q has decided to scratch the Hawks fastest player in Viktor Stalberg...

25 was griping about time on the powerplay...I'm sure he's well aware that he's playing for a new contract..so Q's doing his whole sending a message thing and dressing worthless Carcillo for Game 1. There is no hockey point one can make to justify this other than Stalberg must have really pissed off Q. Hopefully this is a one game bit of nonsense. If anything Ben Smith should be playing over Carcillo if Q is that bent on sending a message, but I digress.

Bolland back in the lineup tonight on the 3rd line where he's best suited. This means Handzus is on the 2nd line again which he is not suited at all.

The three places where Detroit has a clear advantage this series is special teams, mainly the power play, coaching and face offs. Hawks have all the talent Detroit uses on their power play but continuously fail to produce similar results. Babcock is one of the best coaches in the NHL and will outcoach Q this series. Both teams want to play a puck possession game, unfortunately the Hawks only have 1 center who proved capable of winning faceoffs in round 1 and that's Toews. Detroit is a team that can absolutely pants the Hawks 2-4 Centers, so that must be a focus.



Should be a close series, but the depth, talent and youth of the Hawks should prevail unless Crawford really craps the bed.
