I'm certain the Bulls will use the buyout this summer.

 perfect for Hamilton, he's an egomaniacal ass.

I recall after the Pistons upset the final Shaq-Kobe run in 2004 and Hamilton, Billups et al ended up in either the NBA Finals or ECF for a few seasons in a row (without ever actually winning again) they interviewed Rip Hamilton for one of those half-time filler segments in like 2005 or 2006 maybe. Anyhow, they ask Rip about Kobe and how they both played high school ball in Philly around the same time.

Rip recounted how Kobe hadn't lived in the area long and suddenly appeared on the scene and Rip's friends started telling him about this new player who was as good as or even better than Rip. Rip said he told them he'd check out this Kobe cat himself and let them know his thoughts.

the interviewer interjects to ask, so, what did/do you think, was/is Kobe as good as you? And instead of saying the honest thing or even the diplomatic thing, that Kobe's great, much better than he (Rip) is, Hamilton, completely dead-pan serious says

"He was good, almost as good as me."

Fucking unreal. Sure, the Pistons had beaten Kobe's Lakers, but come the fuck on, mang....Kobe was in the NBA the next year.

lol @ &^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ---- when i met duhon at the hotel bar on chicago ave (right @ larrabee methinks?) on a night where i was djing i was like OMFG IT'S CHRIS DUHON.... and since i wanted a proper colbert picture i acted all wide eyed and OMFG DUDE YOU'RE A NBA PLAYER!!!! RESPECT!!!! WHAT'S IT LIKE PLAYING ON THE SAME FLOOR AS KOBE?!?!?!

i gotta dig up that picture. but i'll always remember that duhon, rolling 3-4 deep with dukie looking whitevboys in suits, ordered 52 shots of tequila in one go. oh yeah life o fhte party right there.... ergo, colbering him all like * shoked facial expression pointing at duhon * LOOK AT MY COOL BALCK FRIEND GUYS!!!!! actually meant he was sick of me since i basically spent the whole time asking him about being on the floor with kobe/lebron/etc.... go figure if it was a seaosn later i could have asked him about rose. i bet he would have loved that, granted if there was any overlap between his reign of terror and derrick's ascension to 110%

Last night was probably his best game ever in a Buls uniform. It's a shame it took him 2 seasons to do it.

Bye bye Rip.

Those 2 turnovers in the 4th Q last night is all I can remember.

That's on GarPax. They swung and missed on a guy that didn't meet their blue-collar, grinder type criterion (Tyrus Thomas), and then went back to conservative mode by choosing Rip over slightly better options like Crawford and possibly OJ Mayo.

I don't think Crawford or Mayo would made a substantial difference, but I take issue with the GarPax conservative mentality. I still can't believe they opened up the coffers to add Ben freakin' Wallace to a roster in need of scoring. Drafting Gibson, Noah and Butler has covered up some of the dumbassery that characterized the Wallace and Rip signings, but it hasn't erased it completely.

If they hadn't lucked into Rose in 2008, I'm not sure what we'd be looking at here. We'd probably still have the try really really hard core of Hinrich, Deng, and Gordon, and perhaps a decent, but limited, rookie or two.

They did the right thing in 2010 by swinging for the fences. They failed, but at least the thought process was correct. They need to get their act together soon, otherwise we'll just have a posher version of the try hard/limited talent teams of the mid-2000s.

While Rip was a bad signing they would have been worse off with Tracy McGrady. The problem for the Bulls is that they've had problems in free agency for years. They couldn't get anyone after the Jordan years and Wallace was one of the few guys who was out there when they were looking for a free agent. Generally speaking the way to build a team is through the draft and through trades. How many of the Bulls championship teams were built by snagging a big free agent guy?

The Bulls sell out just about every game and their owner refuses to go into the luxury tax. They can do that and field a respectable team, but they will need to go into the luxury tax if they want to add to the current roster.

This is why I believe Derrick Rose will need to leave Chicago if he ever gets serious about winning a championship.

Drafted Wade and traded for Shaq which led to a title.

I was referring to the current collection of FA signings that is on their way to win the next 7 titles...
