Hey Walt, care to admit you we're probably wrong about the Grizzlies yet? I'm not sure trade deadline "sellers" are usually title contenders two months later.

I'm surprised about the Grizzlies to be honest. Practically every NBA analyst & writer all but wrote the Grizzlies off once they traded Rudy Gay to Toronto as part of a multi-team, multi-player trade at the NBA Trade Deadline in February. Might they be the team that prevents the Heat from winning a second straight NBA Championship?

Yes they might be.

I stand by my original statement of the Knicks barely having even one likeable guy.

JR Smith - Malcontent, Selfish
KDdidit Martin - Hothead, sociopath, ugly
Chandler - Hothead, always crying (Unlike the first two, I wouldn't mind if he was on my team though)
Felton - Loser, fattied up last year and played like dogshit for Portland. They're happy, they got the rookie of the year Lillard
Kidd - Wife beater, kid has a huge head, awful interview and seems dumb as a rock. Also sucks.
Carmelo - Loser, his teams don't make it anywhere, hero baller, selfish, forced his way out of a perfectly good situation in Denver, wife runs the house, doesn't play defense

And what really pisses me off about Carmelo is that he can play defense, and he can play it very well. Just refuses to do it. Whatever year those playoffs were a few years ago when Kobe and Carmelo went mano a mano proved that 'Melo can play defense at a high level. he just doesn't want to.
He also wore a fedora at the press conference yesterday.

I like Shumpert and Woodson.

Maybe your best post ever.

It shouldn't surprise you because it was a good trade for the Grizzlies. They moved some salary and they picked up Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye. Prince fits exactly into what the Grizzlies do defensively. Prince has maybe a year or two left. Daye will probably be a developmental player.

The Grizzlies are built around defense and they have the two big guys in the paint. If they can keep the score low enough they can beat just about any team in the NBA.

Watching some of the Pacers game I think they could lose the next two games if Hill is not on the court. The Pacers lost by 10, but they missed 14 free throws and they had 19 turnovers. They don't look like they are ready to put the Knicks away yet. However, the Knicks haven't shown they can put two games together back to back, so anything could happen at this point.

Can't believe he's back out there. Looked like a severe concussion at the very least.

That's nuts.

It was kind of stacking the deck for them to beat the Spurs without a healthy Lee. The Warriors might be able to beat them next year if there is a rematch. The Warriors probably need to work on defense and they need a couple big guys who can rebound.

With the Pacers & Knicks going back to Indianapolis for Game 6 tomorrow night, Turner Sports' Rachel Nichols Tweeted that the Eastern Conference Finals wouldn't tip before next Wednesday in Miami. For the NBA Champion Heat, they will have a full week between eliminating the Bulls in the East Semifinals & the start of their next series. They could be ripe for the picking again, just like the Bulls did in the last series to beat the Heat on their home court.

The Western Conference Finals tip on ABC & ESPN Radio Sunday at 2:30P with the Grizzlies & Spurs in San Antonio. That should be a doozy. It could go the full 7.

This is the second year in a row that a major injury messed up the playoff bracket. Memphis this year, and Boston last year, do not belong.

What about the Bulls once Derrick Rose tore his ACL a year ago? Philadelphia didn't necessarily belong either.

Boston beat Philly to get to the ECF, when they should have played the Bulls had Rose not got injured. So I assume the Bulls would have eliminated Boston.

That's just dumb. Memphis would've beaten OKC even with a healthy Westbrook, like I have been saying since November.

:?:

The way you framed your disagreement would have been more reasonable if I was suggesting a team like Houston or Dallas would beat Memphis. But how is assuming OKC, a team with the second best record in the NBA and a Finals appearance under its belt, would beat Memphis in any way "dumb," even if you have been saying the opposite since November?

I'm certainly not immune from saying dumb things, but a healthy OKC team beating Memphis is simply not a dumb opinion. Nor, for that matter, is it outrageous to say Memphis can beat OKC. I think both opinions can be equally objective depending on what kind of supporting evidence you're going to use. Now that we're on the subject, why do you think Memphis would've beat the Thunder, KS?

I might be splitting hairs here, but I only said Memphis didn't belong because they did not beat the defending WC champs at full strength. I'm not surprised they beat OKC without Westbrook, so in that sense they do belong. However, in my opinion, I do not think they would beat OKC, the second best team in the league with the second best player in the NBA, in a rematch with a healthy Westbrook.

Sure, but the Bulls lost to the 8th seed 76ers without Derrick Rose. When you count on your superstar player and he goes out it's very hard to make up for that. If anything you can fault OKC for dumping Harden. If they have Harden and an injured Westbrook then they might have beaten Memphis. But it's all hypothetical since you can't play the series with and without the injured player.

^Ok, this is where it all began.^ Had I been more thorough, I would've agreed that this is a dumb thought. Boston had the Heat down 3 games to 2 in the Conference Finals. They clearly belonged.
Memphis to some degree could've/should've/would've beat the Clippers and the Thunder regardless of the health status of Blake Griffin and Russell Westbrook.

Farvio doesn't say a word about "belonging", and spiral starts.

Now this time, vegan comes back with the truth, not knowing at the time that Farvio's biggest problem with the whole thing was whether or not Memphis "belonged" there. This is also the point where I started reading in earnest.

Keeping Score wrote:

I do agree Memphis would've beat the Thunder, but the Thunder winning thought is far from dumb.

There I am spouting off without having read the whole thing. Of course my thoughts were spot on, but in retrospect, a bit misplaced.

Vegan again with a terrific thought, but the "belonging" part missing from those thoughts, kind of changes everything.

This is where it hit me. I felt bamboozled. Or that could've been my earlier date. Anyways, had Farvio said this with his first response, we wouldn't be in this predicament. :D

And now they don't belong and do belong all in the same paragraph. In conclusion, I'm gonna have a smoke, a pancake and a drink, and leave you with this:

Thanks for the breakdown!

Did not recall that Boston had Miami down 3-2 last year, so yes, I'd agree that my comment went too far. Still think OKC can/would beat Memphis though, mainly due to the Durant factor. Westbrook is not on Durant's level, but there's no denying the scoring prowess of both Durant and Westbrook, so I wonder how Memphis, despite beating OKC 2-1 in regular season matchups, could respond during crucial possessions in fourth quarters.

Hi vegan :D . Ya, it was all in good fun.

I just think Memphis is too physical for Oklahoma City. The trade of Rudy Gay made the Grizzlies into even more of a defensive juggernaut, (Tayshaun) and took the ball out of Gay's hands and got it into the hands of Gasol and Randolph, for much higher percentage shots. That trade also put pressure on Conley to accept even more of a playmaker role, and he has responded with the best basketball of his career.

Aside from the physicality, I just find Memphis to be a smarter, veteran laden team than the Thunder.

I feel you, and totally agree on Conley as well as Memphis' amplified defensive strengths following the trade. I'm a sucker for stars, however, and do not see a team even as good as Memphis neutralizing Durant's and Westbrook's impact on a game. I see parallels to the Bulls-Heat clash in 2011, where the Heats' weaknesses (size and rebounding) were rendered irrelevant by the brilliant play of Wade and James, in a series against another equally stingy defense. In terms of veterans, OKC may be younger, but their core players did go to the Finals only last year, so I'd argue they're as battle-tested as most other teams.

Gonna be a fun series between SA and Memphis. I really like both teams, so it's very tough for me to find a rooting interest.

EDIT: KS, by the way...nice breakdown on what the Rudy Gay trade meant to Memphis. I agree that they got better, but I would have loved to have a Gay on the Bulls.
