I don't. Strange thing, though, I tip better @ a sit-down restaurant than I do when I get delivery. @ a restaurant I may tip between 10-20% but for delivery I might just give a few dollars.

I would at least 70% of people can't

I think that's a little high

Pro Tip (ha) take whatever the bill is, move the decimal one spot to the left and double it

So. 31.14 becomes 3.14 x 2. = 6.28 or 20℅

It seems like as time moves forwards it becomes accepted to tip more.

How long will it move to 30%? 40%?

Will we see a day where people tip 50+%?

I've never known it not to be 15 for average, 20 for good.

Hmm ok. Maybe my memory is off?

I seem to remember when I first started paying attention to such things that 10% was the accepted rate. Then it moved to 15% and now it seems to have moved to 20%.

I was being conservative in my estimate. Schools start kids on calculators in 3rd-4th grade now.

Do you figure it down to the penny like that? I usually just round to roughly 20%, so I would probably give them 6 or 7 here.

I usually round down because I'm poor :( but I see waiters and waitresses as even more sympathetic figures than I am so I shoot for 20% unless they're really crappy.

I'm generally going with at least 20% unless a server is aggressively rude. I'm not going to deduct simply for incompetence.

There are exceptions though. A server needs to know who he/she is working for. And it isn't the restaurant/venue. It's the people at the table. Here's a real life example that occurred during my one and only visit to the Cy's Crab House that used to be on Ashland next to Ginger's Ale House. The broad served us bad oysters. So bad that two of us nearly became sick right there. When we complained about it, she simply said, "I'll tell the manager, he'll want to know." When the check came, the oysters were still on there. I deducted the price from her tip.

I'm usually not a guy who is going to complain or send shit back. I just won't return and I'll tell everyone I know how much a place sucks.

Round up to the next $10 increment. $1.50 for every 10 dollars on the bill. Done assuming you can count.

No, but that's really not such an inappropriate response to someone who tries to poison you.

 No, but if I wrote 6 or 7 some jagoff would be like "that's not 20%!"

I usually overtip a little. Ive worked enough gratuity jobs, I like to give back a little. I mean I dont go out for real expensive dinners much so its usually like that/\. Id just give em 8 if they were good.

so when you buy a $100 bottle of wine, do you tip 20% on that too?

If you've got the bread to buy a $100 bottle of wine, you've got enough to tip $20.

I do, but that happens like once every two years, so it doesn't really matter. Some people don't think you should be tipped more for pouring a $100 bottle than a $20 bottle or a $1000 bottle.

Those people should go eat at Golden Corral instead.

Eating at Golden Corral is a fate worse than death.
