Agreed, Hawg. Average service gets 15%, good to above average service gets at least 20%, bad service gets a couple of bucks.

Disagree. You stated 15% is fine, and if that is not enough "I will be more than happy to take it back."

Do you refer to others as ' I ' often?

Is this another bullshit arguement out of you, I don't get what you are saying?

15% is for OK service
20% is for good service
25% is for awesome service/or when on an expense account

Let's not villify 15% guy. HE is not the problem.

The problem is 5% or less guy and tipping is optional guy

And then people depend on 15% guy to make up the difference and he doesnt.

But lets remember who the real villian is

Yeah, I can probably count on one hand the number of times that I tipped less than 15%.

15% is for avg service. Just because people are too lazy to figure it out doesnt make me cheap. Keep blindly tipping 20% if you like. You arent getting better service because of it.

If your average / standard is 15% - I called you cheap. I thought that was clear.

A 20% tip is standard, and you reward excellent service by going above that.

And I call you wrong, but what else is new.

MORTY: The service was slow. And God forbid they should refill the water. How does 12.4% sound?

JERRY: Well, your tip is four dollars and thirty-six point six six six six cents.

MORTY: We'll round down.

If they were really too lazy to figure it out, theyd use 10%, but they dont want to be some cheap asshole drain on society who should be shot (19% or less)

I wasn't looking to call anyone cheap or start a fight. Just stating a fact based on 2-3 years of being a server before. 15% is a below average tip. I'm not saying that to insult anyone. I've seen a lot of people say that is average, and factually that is just not true.

And that is according to the Favrefan scale of facts, I tend to think for average service it is perfectly acceptable.

Im not making this up. Have Doug ask his g/f if I'm wrong on this. Im not telling you, or anyone else, that they are bad people or that you NEED to tip over 15%. I just said that based on my 2-3 years of experience, 15% was a below average tip. I'd say 18-20% was average. Anyone else here been a server and disagree?

So, 15 is.....

It also depends somewhat on where you are. If you are at Applebees running up a $24 check for two people then 15% is a bad tip. If you just spent $100 or more on your meal then 15% is definitely good enough.

Note: I have been a server and delivered pizzas, or at least that is what I have on my business card.

Why don't they just rid of tipping and have eatery owners fire people that give bad service? 8)

Not pump up your ego, but maybe you were just good at it and that is why you regularly got 20%.

If the house reports 12% or more of gross sales as tips, they are less likely to ever get audited.

Ya know...maybe it's a function of the area you live in? I can't recall ever having a bad meal at a Vernon Hills area restaurant since I've been here. Bad food doesn't survive in the Mecca of the North. With the amount of richies around here, you can't have bad food or service.

The GF worked at Wildberry in Libertyville at the corner of Milwaukee and 137 for just over a year until she finished grad school. This place is fucking serious. They have comment cards that they want every patron to fill out. One bad review and you get a talking to. 2nd bad comment and you could be fired. 3rd bad comment and you are gone. But, the money is great and the food is awesome.
There are a lot of Bears wives and players that frequent this joint every weekend. She waited on Forte a couple of times. (he gave her 25%).

The problem is the person who tips little or nothing for decent service.

But shouldn't there is also be some motivation for the server to give at least decent service? If they know they are automatically getting 15-20% then why give good service?

That is not nearly the problem as the 5% or less guy, but it is still a problem. Some servers do not do much and just assume/expect a good tip.

That place is good stuff.

Maybe one of the only decent places to eat in the woodfield area.
