Yes. A 2-run HR by Matt Adams.

Matt Moore is appointment mlb.television. Andrus has gotten on twice, and he hasn't wanted any part of Beltre (losing him to a 4 pitch walk in this last AB) so if he can get out of this he's got a shot at a nice ~6-7 IP outing

Nasty injury to Jose Reyes tonight as he slid into 2nd base. He was just carted off.

After putting a few good starts together Halladay was torched for 8 ER in 3.2 innings vs the tribe tonight.

For being a trade deadline pickup in 2011 that had me saying "who?", Mujica sure has proven himself to be pretty valuable.

Man, if the Brewers ever had any legit pitching they could be a problem.... that lineup always hits. Even with Corey Hart and A-Ram sidelined for april, they've got yuniesky betancourt hitting HR #7 today, carlos gomez (an object of vin scully's undying/undead affection) hit #5 and like, yeah, plug in these people and they hit HRs.... but they'll never end up with any pitchers who make you go "oh shit" in a dreading-to-face-them-type-of-way.

i remember telling my 25-game-plan uncle that the brewers would rue the day they dumped brett lawrie for marcum, and he said with the logic of going for it no matter what marcum did it was the right move due to the philosophy behind it.... granted i think this was also b4 they got a-ram to play third for the short-medium term, but still, even if lawrie takes another year or two to become the ~20/20 gu many think he can be, was shaun marcum really worth it? methinks no.... even tho they can plug in any of a # of people and get production, i think having another "guy" alongside braun in terms of fundamental core is > trying to catch bottled lightning with a pitcher.

I hear what you are saying, but without Marcum they don't make the playoffs a couple of years ago. Also, Melvin and his scouts always seem to find bats. They do have some young arms coming, but can they get here in time to match with the talent they currently have. They are a very fun team to watch play and they have a ton of speed also.

Tigers beat Astros 17-2 tonight.

Miggy goes 4 for 4 with 6 RBIs

yeah, that whole miggy vs trout debate is starting to look a whole lot of silly right now..... i mean trout isn't exactly playing like dung right now, but if you multiply his #s out over a season you're looking at a nice solid 20/20 season that approaches 100RBI.

but to say he's a better hitter than migcab? now that's just silly.... but then again i'd likely be reminded by the SABRattlers that they weren't arguing who's a better hitter, only who was more valuable to their team in 2012.

trout had a hell of a year; migcab is the best hitter in baseball.

Blown HR call after replay review leaves A's furious

by Jorge L. Ortiz, USA TODAY Sports

Updated: 05/08/2013 11:02pm

And you thought replay reviews would at least resolve disputes over home run balls.

The Oakland Athletics can strongly refute that notion.

By all indications, the A's got the short end of a blown call that cost them dearly in tonight's 4-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field, even after umpires had the benefit of looking at the game's critical play on replay.

With the A's down to their last out and the bases empty, Adam Rosales hit a long, high drive toward deep left-center that initially appeared to be gone. The ball bounced back on the field, though, and Rosales only made it to second, a quizzical look on his face.

After Oakland manager Bob Melvin came out to argue, the umpires went in to take a look at television replays, which showed the ball bounced off a railing over the fence for a home run.

Except the crew didn't see it that way, and when umpire Angel Hernandez signaled for Rosales to stay at second, Melvin went nuts – well, by his mild-mannered standards – and got ejected.

"You saw it. Everybody saw it. I think everybody thought it was a home run except the umpires," Rosales said afterward.

The A's loaded the bases, but closer Chris Perez got John Jaso to hit a comebacker for the final out, leaving Oakland players and managers grumbling, shouting and steaming, for all the good it did them.

They're also probably wondering what good is video replay if it can't correctly settle calls like this.

Turrible.

Something is going to have to happen with the Angels. They have once again lost to the Astros and have close the same record as the Astros right now...2 games ahead in the loss column. It doesn't help when Weaver is hurt and Hamilton and Pujols are terrible and average at best.

I don't think they want to fire Scioscia and i think they are on the hook for a ton of money and years with him but something has to give. Their off season moves have backfired big time since Stoneman stepped down.

Mattingly let Clayton Kershaw throw 132 pitches last night. I absolutely love the fact that the Dodgers are struggling so much after all the ridiculous moves they've made but it's too bad it comes at the expense of burning out the best pitcher in baseball.

This should be a doozy of a pitching matchup on MLB Network, DIRECTV 213, as well as the "MLB Extra Innings" package this eve. The Tigers' Justin Verlander vs. the Rangers' Yu Darvish starting a 4 game weekend series at the Ballpark in Arlington, TX come 7:05P. It's big enough to warrant MLB Network's Matt Vasgersian & SI's Tom Verducci to call it nationally.

The end appears to be near for "Donnie Baseball" after the Dodgers got swept by the Braves in Atlanta this weekend. FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal wrote this last night regarding Don Mattingly being on borrowed time in Dodgertown:

Is it breaking an unwritten rule to put in a pinch hitter for a position player in a 6-0 game you are losing in the 8th inning? I think it might be.

It seems Dusty didn’t like that Votto unleashed a couple F-Bombs on the Indian, because kids could be watching.

This is the same guy that thinks that All-Star pitchers should just box on the field to settle things.

He'll more than likely return for the MLB All-Star Game next month, but the Mets did something a little unusual before their home game with the Yankees at Citi Field. They actually had Yankees' closer Mariano Rivera throw out the ceremonial first ball after a late start due to rain of their own in Queens.

Rivera's career will end at the season, but it seemed a little unusual for the opposing team to give him the honor of the ceremonial first ball, complete with Mets' retired closer John Franco on the receiving end of that ball before the game. No sooner does he throw out the first pitch, Rivera also did something we've never seen before from MLB's premier closer. He not only blows the save in the Bottom 9th, but doesn't record a single out in the Mets' 2-1 win.

First you try your damnedest to get Don Mattingly fired. Then you rub it in on this tough loss. Are you trying to aggravate me SHARK!?

Well, you can go straight to Hell, SHARK!!

StoneRoses, it looks like Don Mattingly might have saved his job...for now. The Dodgers can't seem to find anyone good enough to replace "Donnie Baseball", even on an interim basis. It would suck for Mattingly if he paid the price for the Dodgers' underachieving. You know the old saying. You can't fire the players, you fire the manager. Besides, I have nothing to do with the Dodgers' scuffling like this.

As for Mariano Rivera, he's the best closer in the modern MLB era and a sure Hall of Famer when his time comes. Even the best closers in baseball had an off night. That's what happened last night. He's a human being just like you & me.

I'll give the Yankees a lot of credit. They've been winning with a makeshift lineup and a lot of injuries. It might be Joe Girardi's best managing job to date.

welp as i quoted this for the reply i didn't notice the "for" right before "Mattingly" cuz like, SHARKster, let's be honest here.... #realtalk pull up some chairs and crack a diet coke or whatever you have in place of beer, mattingly isn't a good manager by any stretch of the imagination. the one thing that amazes me is that with kemp scuffling like he is he still won't violate his torre-clone-code and let the guy try to swipe some bases and jumpstart his offensive game that way. he took a guy who used to boast that 50/50 was possible and turned him into a one dimensional offensive hitter, and now that he's not even hitting HRs (cuz seriously, i always thought kemp was a bit overrated... he was a ~.280/28/80 type guy save a season or maybe 2) he's just like.... ceremonially there as the centerpiece of the dodgers lineup. thank god that carl crawford has been solid (a rather hot start has simmered down) but again, mattingly doesn't like to steal.... and when you've got crawford and kemp atop your lineup you gotta use the SB as a weapon, altho i'm sure he'll point to adrian gonzalez' continued power-lite / higher avg production and talk about not wanting to run out of outs..... but still, you gotta play a different game cuz i mean, who the F hits home runs for the dodgers?

and the answer is nobody.

so then when your manager is diametrically opposed to the SB.... man, you can be top of the league in OBP and still not score runs, which is exactly what the dodgers have been doing. it's basically like they single you to death or you live a nice solid life and retire to boca when you get older.
