A Virginia man shopping at a local Walmart got more than he bargained for when he was suspected of kidnapping his own daughters, WTTG Fox 5 reports.

Joseph, who doesn’t want his family’s last name revealed, told the station that he was met at home by a local police officer tipped off by Walmart security and asked about his children because they are biracial.

Joseph, who is white, and his wife, Keana, who is black, have been married for 10 years and have three daughters – a 4-year-old and 2-year-old twins.

"I was dumbfounded."

- Keana

During a recent trip to a Woodbridge Walmart with his three girls, Joseph tells the station that while he wasn’t there long, but did spend a few extra minutes in the parking lot taking time to buckle the girls into their seats.

According to WTTG, Joseph then drove to pick up Keana, and as they arrived home, a police officer from Prince William County was waiting for them.

"He asks us very sincerely, ‘Hey, I was sent here by Walmart security. I just need to make sure that the children that you have are your own,’” Joseph said.

"I was dumbfounded," Keana told the station. "I sat there for a minute and I thought, ‘Did he just ask us if these were our kids knowing what we went through to have our children?’

"He took my ID and asked my 4-year-old to point out who her mother and father were."

Joseph said the officer told them a Walmart security guard reported seeing him in the parking lot with the girls and thought it was strange.

Keana later called Walmart demanding an explanation. She told WTTG that after asking to speak with a manager, she was transferred to a Walmart security officer, who denied alerting the police. The officer said it was a customer who came forward.

Joseph and Keana don’t plan to shop at Walmart again.

Doesn't sound like he was acting too sensitively to me. I'd be fucking furious. It actually sounds like his wife and him handled it with about as much class as can be expected.

How does notifying the media demonstrate class? To me that is grandstanding and somehow trying to profit from someone else's screwup.

If one is offended by the behavior of an employee of a company the appropriate response is to inform that person's supervisor and let them know what s/he can do to remedy the matter. If the person's supervisor does not handle it properly and timely then a letter fed Exed to the company CEO usually gets results.

If this isn't another strong statement against race mixin', I don't know what is. Well done, Walmart...

I think the key phrase is here:

Now, every parent has some difficulty here and there when it comes to belting kids, but if this statement is true then it may indicate the caller did not act simply on the basis of race. While it's close-minded to hold certain assumptions about mixed race marriages and bi-racial children, I'm not so sure that's what happened at Walmart.

Personally, if I saw the Walmart couple in public I would not even think to call the police or anything because I'm aware of mixed marriages and biracial children and the like, but then again the Cleveland kidnapper/rapist imprisoned girls that did not share his own ethnic background, and I'm not so sure I would have called the police in that case had everything been proceeding normally with him and the girl(s), so these things are not always so simple (and assuming I did not recognize the girls from the posters and amber alerts).

I just assume anyone who shops at Wal-Mart is a criminal of some sort.

Yeah...I get all shifty eyed on the once every five year trip...checking my pockets to make sure I didn't steal anything.

Funny how Wal-Mart became K-Mart.

It's pretty foolish to have your Spidey senses tingled by a multi-racial family, but, isn't the safety of our children the most important thing here? Political correctness can go shit on itself. I'm more concerned with stopping asshole child abusers than making sure someone's feelings aren't hurt.

Nobody insulted these folks, or told them they aren't welcome, or harassed them. Someone, albeit foolishly in this case, suspected something might be wrong, and alerted authorities to make sure everything was alright. I hope people would do the same for my kid.

This just sounds like people that love playing the victim card.

My kid just attended a party at one of the chain kiddie places, and they now have a process where they stamp the hands of the parents and kids when they come in, in such a way that makes sure each kid leaves with the same adults that they came with. I thought it was a good idea. I guess thinking back, I should have paid attention to what color everyone was, so I could decide if I should be offended or not. :?

I don't get this either; I might not be understanding. I take it that the cashier didn't connect that the Mexican child was with the white mother? So to her, she sees a woman walk up to the counter and put money on it, and asks why she's doing it? And for that, she deserves to have her manager called on her? That sounds kinda rough.

People make mistakes like that all the time. It doesn't mean they are racist. The other day, someone I thought was in his early 40's introduced an 8-year old as his grand-daughter. It wasn't what I expected. I guess that makes me an age-ist. :?

From my part, I wasn't there, she told me the story, I think it was the way the cashier said something, I could see where they may not connect it, but don't you be quiet, I heard the story probably a year ago, so may not remember everything, I know she didn't like it.

Stores have to be on the lookout for child abduction because Walmart is one place where kids are kidnapped.

You know where else kids are kidnapped?

Church. The street. Wrigley Field. Arby's. Target. JC Penny. CTA stations. The entire neighborhood around the Cell. Soldiers Field. Lake Shore Drive. Target. Burger King. White Castle. Home. Old Navy. K&G. Zales. Phar Mor. Jewels. Dominicks. Target. Menards. HOBO. Harbor Freight. Toys R Us. Harold's Chicken.

Pretty much fucking everywhere, you buffoon.
