In true meathead super-fan form....fellow fans of the pale hose, what is your favorite memory of the Iguchi era....?

HR against off Wells in game 2 of the ALDS

Slam off Lidge on Sunday night baseball to tie the game

Slam against the cubs....i think it was him.

Some how I think we might be asking this question of a few other guys in the next few days...start brainstorming!!!!

Early in 2006 when he made that incredible play in the field where he made the throw to first while his body was completely parallel to the ground about 6 inches above it. One of the best plays I've ever seen. I've always been a big fan of his but like what Richar has done in his whole one game so far. Could be best for everyone if he pans out.

Hawkeye's post about that defensive play is right on - an unbelievable play.

To me, it was the 3 run HR against Boston. I was in the club box level for that game, they were losing, and I was so pissed, but that HR off fat ass Wells helped the White Sox take the 2-0 lead back to Boston. Great memory.

it wasnt in the WS sam. it was just a regular season interleague game. the sox were down big, and gooch hit a 3 run job in the 8th, then a slam in the 9th to tie it, but the sox eventually lost in 10 or 11 innings i think

I was at that game, Sox beat Toronto 4-2, after Buerhle allowed two first inning runs. Guch made another great play in the game as well. He ran to his right, leaped, and snagged a liner destined for the outfield.

i was at games in 2005 in which he hit big HRs. a solo jack to tie it against texas, and a solo jack to win it against toronto, both in the 8th inning if i remember correctly

that 3 run HR off wells in the playoffs was great though. i was sitting in the cafeteria at school watching that inning on TV. tons of red sox "fans" around. they were giving me shit up til graf's error, and i went nuts when he hit that HR. i also went crazy when el duque got out of that bases loaded no out jam

That's my favorite Iguchi memory, too. I still don't know how he made that play!

i still dont know how when you see countdowns of the greatest plays ever, that is left off. same thing with uribe diving into the stands in the WS. yet we get to see that jeter play in which his momentum took him into the stands.

both uribe's and gooch's plays were far far better than jeter's

i agree with everything in this thread. dude sucked, but he was representative of the new-look, world series winner white sox. i'll miss him.

edit: i think the big play in the field was this year, not last? i could be wrong.

He didn't suck. He was very good in 2005. He was good last year. He was below average this year. Not a bad 3 years out of him considering we won a World Series with him.

That homer against Boston and Wells was huge.

That great defensive lay out throw to first was last year Suckers.

I believe John Dewaan broke down stats about a month ago showing Iguchi was near the top of the league in second basemen over the last three years. This year he, and the entire team, have slumped. That does not diminish his entire body of work.

Iguchi excelled in the position that they put him in 2005. Batting behind Pods, hitting to the right side, taking pitches, working the count to give SP a chance to steal a base, etc. As I recall, he was pretty good at getting a bunt down, as well, though he seems to have regressed in that department. Since 05 though, he has been asked to be more of a run producer (partially due to Pods constant injury status) and I don't think that is really his forte, despite what he may have done in Japan.

On a related note, this makes me really question Ozzie's managerial abilities. Specifically as it relates to his effort to move Iguchi down in the lineup to hit for power while putting Uribe in the 2nd spot during spring training of 06. Gooch had already demonstrated his ability to perform well in the 2 spot. Uribe has never demonstrated any type of discipline at the plate. At the time, I figured that Ozzie had just won a WS and must know something that I don't. However, I am really starting to think that maybe he is that much of an idiot.
