I am fine if Detroit got a penalty there. How did Saad get called? He was mugged. Eddie is a nice guy, but I don't care for his commentary. He makes a few nice observations, but his kiss a$$ style is getting real old.

Watching the replay I'm more and more convinced he meant to call that on Detroit, realized his boner and called matching. Only explanation.

Some thoughts as I was too incapacitated with fear watching the game to use a computer/breathe

Seabs and Oduya were horrendous in the 3rd and OT. Bad passes and turnovers aplenty. Seabrooks goal originally started with a terrible full ice pass that was picked off by the Wings D. Obviously a great hit by Bolland.

88 with one of his better games, actually put forth a medium effort on a forecheck and looked dangerous when he had the puck

19? Hello?

25 with only 10 minutes of ice team yet looked very dangerous. Q is going to need him badly against LA.

I"m going to be really sad to see 67 go. He's been great in this role, but a team is going to pay him as a 2nd/3rd line guy.

I couldn't have been more wrong about Andrew Shaw. Extremely useful piece and maybe the best Hawk all series long save Crawford and Bickell.

Bickell again I worry is becoming too expensive with these playoffs. Just have to hope that a combination of a lot of teams in salary cap hell and his desire of wanting to be on a competitive team compels him to sign for less.

Saad getting better and better as the playoffs move on, he will be an important piece against the Kings.

I don't understand how anyone could watch that last night and not be a hockey fan.

No chance. The Hawks suckered him into signing a 3 year minimum salary deal after the 2010 Cup. I'd be looking to recoup that discount big time.

I know and I don't think it's likely, just hopeful that so many teams are beyond boned with their salary cap. Hawks are in relatively good position compared to others.

Also, clearly a loophole, but this first time last 4 teams in playoffs were the last 4 winners since 1945 or something like that stat isn't exactly true. Islanders were in conference finals in 1984 when they won the Cup 1980-1983. Fun fact for your Thursday.

Just got a text from my dad, I guess he loved the game. That was probably the first hockey game he ever watched in his life....so I guess you're right.

Someone (Q) needs to explain why Oduya gets 21 minutes of playing time & Leddy only gets 14. Oduya was awful the last 2 periods, turning to puck over, losing board battles & being out of position. Meanwhile Leddy is the only Hawk player who can consistently carry the puck into the zone & make things happen. This kid should be playing 20+ minutes. He'll be a first line Defenseman next year. #27 will be somewhere else.

All the chain stuff there. Also look up a sports bar on google with Monroeville called Dave's. Really good but not sure how far to drive. If you can't find ask me again.

There is some brewery that has 4 locations throughout Pitt and one of them is a tap house in Monroeville. I had my eye on that place back when I thought there would be no Hawks game at all. I will do some research on this daves place.

I am sorry it was Rick's. http://www.rickssportsbar.com/index3.html
Let me know which local brewery with 4 spots you are talking about?

Well, Rozsival will be somewhere else, and Oduya is still signed through 2015. I don't think we have two guys ready to step in, and I don't want two guys to step in.

Q's gonna lean on veteran defensemen; it's what he does. Rozsival of all people led a game in ice time against Minnesota.

Is anyone else worried about Leddy getting a Hjalmmarson type of offer as a restricted free agent this summer?

A little, but not so much. There's a gentleman's agreement not to tender offer sheets that's only rarely broken. In Hjalmarsson's case, it was Doug Wilson having it in for the Hawks for firing his buddy Dale Tallon. Jamie Benn and P.K. Subban were RFAs and no one gave them offer sheets even while their own teams wouldn't sign them. The other thing is that so many teams are in deep shit with the cap (or their own RFAs, like St. Louis) that they have to get their own respective houses in order before they can start throwing money at other people's RFAs.

The game last night got better local ratings than Games 3 and 4 of the 2010 Final. So much for Dan saying "this is as big as hockey will ever get here" after the Hawks won the Cup.

Its a possibility. Leddy is going to be a star NHL Defenseman for the Hawks for a long time. Minnesota made a really stupid move when they traded Leddy to the Hawks for Cam Barker. This kid could be great.

Right on scorehead. I've given Stan shit in the past but he did a decent job of getting talent from other teams in deals when everyone knew the Hawks were bent over a barrel by the cap

Ladd:
Ivan Vishnevskiy
Adam Cledening

LOSS

Vertseeg:
Viktor Stalberg
Philippe Paradis
Chris DiDomenico

WIN

Byfuglien:
Kevin Hayes (1st rounder)
Justin Holl (2nd rounder)
Marty Reasoner
Jeremy Morin
Joey Crabb

LOSS

The Byfuglien trade wouldn't be so bad if he didn't punt the draft picks.

You're not going to win many deals when the entire league knows you're up against the cap and HAVE to dump good players. To get what he did worked out pretty well, you're not going to get market value when you're at the mercy of the cap. So I don't look at the trades in terms of wins or losses.

I think Clendening can be a good NHL defenseman and future power play guy. Morin will be a decent 2nd/3rd line player who has already shown flashes at the NHL level and I wouldn't give up on the draft picks so quickly.

I wasn't mad with the Byfuglien trade at the time. I thought Hawks did well selling high. I'm more mad that Bowman blew the picks. Morin getting concussion issues was unlucky.

The moment the Ladd trade was done I was pissed. He was a guy I thought they needed to keep. Size, leader, skill and sure enough he was given the C right away in Atlanta and excelled. Instead, we kept fucking Dave Bolland.

I hear you on the decision to keep Bolland instead of Ladd. At the time, I agreed bc I thought he had the makings of a #2 Center. I'm not the biggest Kevin Hayes supporter but am willing to see how he develops.

Can one of the gays help explain what happened to Bolland? Or was he never that good and just overrated in town?

A little off topic, but I saw an Indiana license plate in front of me at the Dunkin' drive thru this morning. It had the license plate 206ays. As I stared at it, I thought it said 20 gays.

He's a guy that seems to play better in the playoffs. His main role has been an agitator and to shut down the other team's line. He will never be much of a scorer.

Ladd is definitely a better player, but it's easy to understand why they kept Bolland considering the capocalypse they were up against. Cheaper and plays a position of premium in the organization especially based on what the Hawks had in Rockford at the time. Couple that with his great playoff performances and I'm sure I would have made the same call.

Misused this season. He's not a 2nd line center. His ability as a 3rd line center was probably overvalued considering he was skating with players that could be Top 6 on other teams. When he's on his game he can be a great defensive forward, agitator/do all the little things type of guy. He isn't a top 6 guy, never will be someone you rely on for points etc. Valuable player, probably overpaid for what his ceiling is.
