So your lord and savior was a member of a false religion / cult. That's not a very nice thing to say.

I tried to refrain from writing a long response this incoherent, crudely offensive post, so I'll just say that killing non-Muslims is not a pillar of the Muslim faith.

I agree that there's a lot of dumb on Twitter, but at the same time credible reporters, news networks, politicians, etc., use the same medium to report news or express opinions. It's not a stretch to say Dan takes himself very seriously, so I think it's fair to take what he says on Twitter as an accurate representation of what he really thinks on a given issue.

but anyone can use twitter, and i don't consider it a "source" the way that media has latched onto it. it takes no effort at all to tweet. it takes no effort to say what he said in his tweet. he writes a whole column about it and gets paid for it? ok, that deserves some gripes. because he actually took the time to write a thought-out completely assholish piece of op-ed.

so my issue is more with the medium itself and how seriously it is taken. i don't give a fuck that amanda bynes called someone a bitch on twitter. you can do that on your iPhone drunk at a bar and forget you did it at all. it's like butt dialing.

Sure, I also don't care what Bynes or Bieber or any of those guys say on Twitter, or anywhere for that matter. But I will take a tweet from an AP journalist seriously, or a Yahoo! Sports writer. I don't know if you're into the NBA, but when LeBron James was a free agent in 2010, I only used Twitter to follow specific NBA journalists for news of where he would sign.

Check out this 2010 article on news that first broke on Twitter to get a sense of what I mean: http://www.techradar.com/us/news/world- ... rst-719532

As a radio host/journalist/sports writer, or however else Bernstein sees himself, he knows he's going to be held responsible for what he says on Twitter. Even though it's his personal account, he's making his opinions public knowledge, and therefore susceptible to scrutiny when warranted.

all that meant was getting caught up in rumor mills. it doesn't do a thing for me. without twitter i still knew he was going to go on ESPN and jerkoff all over that hour long special to say he was going to miami after all (which had been leaked anyway).

i'd rather hear news delivered right than lightning fast. in fact, "breaking news" has started so much minutia over wrong details it's become hurtful rather than helpful. sandy hook and the boston bombings come to mind; but i think the trayvon martin case was another one where the wrong guy got targeted because an address was reported incorrectly.

the only time i'd say twitter is helpful is for things like what happened in school shootings where people used it to let people know they were OK. they used facebook for that as well, which made more sense since you're broadcasting it to your supposed friends.

well yes, this goes for anyone in the public eye. but again, the scrutiny should be appropriately directed. consider the source when these celebrities say something dumb. almost 90% of the time it's a tweet. and i usually tune it out if that's where the "opinion" came from.

i have a fake/parody twitter account, a very inside joke that 2 people on this whole planet would get...but the character follows hundreds on twitter. i can't tell you how much stupidity comes across on that twitter feed. it's awful.

Allah means Supreme Being.

It's no different than you calling The Supreme Being God.

Because someone who is Muslim doesn't know, or acknowledge the other two persons of the Trinity, doesn't have any efffect on their existence.

We sometimes forget that faith is a gift.

Salvation is a gift. Faith is a choice. The Muslims, Jews and many other false religions and cults deny the Trinity. Allah and the Trinity are not the same no matter who says it.

The Bible disagrees with your assessment of faith.

It may be helpful to you to have an understanding of the roots of Islam. Allah is God the Father no matter what you choose to think.

Point no. 1, you didn't cite any specific verses of why you think faith is a gift. The Apostle Paul says that faith comes by hearing the word of God. Faith is more similar to a muscle than a gift. As you exercise your faith it grows. A gift implies that some people have the gift and other people don't.

Are you saying the first person of the Trinity requires everyone to make a pilgrimage to Mecca? The crescent moon is not a Christian symbol. To say Allah and Jehovah are the same God is absolute blasphemy.

I didn't specifically say that Jesus was a member of a cult. The problem with non-Christian Jews along with other false religions is that they deny that Jesus is the Son of God and that he is the only way to the Father. They have the Bible and the prophets, but they do not believe what the book says. If they did they would acknowledge that there is no way if you accept the Old Testament as true that Jesus is not the Messiah.

He was my Latin teacher.

In four years, I don't think we used the book 10 times.

But we watched a ton of movies.

Start in Ephesians. And when you are done, perhaps you can show me the biblical passage about scripture alone being the only way to know God.

Secondly, there are literally millions of people in places like China that will not not, or NEVER had, the opportunity to hear the word of God. If you don't think that faith is a gift to some, and not others, then you might want to consider who God really is and why others enthusiastically reject your caricature of Him. Unless of course you actually think that God creates some people in order to condemn them, at which point you should just come right out and say that.

Third, try and leave strawmen out of your responses. No one brought up Mecca.

English=God
Latin= Deus
Arabic=Allah
Spanish=Dios
Yahweh=Hebrew

It's really that simple. Allah is the name God in another language.

The words of Jesus in John 3:16-17: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

The words of John the Baptist in John 3:36:
"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them."

The words of Jesus is John 14:5-7: "Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Acts 4:12: "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

The reason why there are missionaries is because people may not have heard. But not hearing doesn't make them innocent or capable of reaching heaven without Christ. If that was the case it would be better not to tell anyone about Christ who hasn't heard about him.

Romans 1:20: "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse."

Yes, Allah is the word for the Muslim god in Arabic. Their god is not the same as the Jehovah and when they say Allah they don't ever mean Jehovah. The character of the Muslim god is not the character of the Christian God. There are many gods out there and so when people say God they are not necessarily talking about the Triune God of Father, Son and Spirit.

You know the exact passage I'm referring to Ephesians where faith is called a gift and you chose to ignore it.

The reason why there are missionaries is because people may not have heard. But not hearing doesn't make them innocent or capable of reaching heaven without Christ. If that was the case it would be better not to tell anyone about Christ who hasn't heard about him.

Another strawman set up by you. There are many folks in heaven who never heard of Jesus while they were alive.

Please try and take the time to inform yourself about the roots of Islam.

How do you know your religion is the right one? I mean where do you get the authority to determine which religion is "true" and which is a "cult"?

I know because I understand the love, grace and forgiveness that God offers through Jesus Christ and how he changed my life and the lives of others. I believe that he came as a man, was crucified, died and rose again. The hope I have in the resurrection of the dead is because of Christ. The fact that humanity is sinful, headed for death and in need of a Savior is why I believe in Christ. No other religion makes any sense in light of that and no other religion offers its God as a sacrifice for the followers of that religion.

Typically the way you know whether a religion is a cult is if the group denies the Deity of Jesus Christ and that he was the one and only Son of God.

2 John 1:7: "I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist."

Cult leaders often twist the Bible. There are other aspects such as groups with strong leaders that demand their followers must obey their every word. In other cases there are things like polygamy going on in the group where the followers must all sleep with the leader. There are all sorts of cults. Generally you can look at what a group believes, look at the Bible and know if it is or is not a cult.

You know the exact passage I'm referring to Ephesians where faith is called a gift and you chose to ignore it.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast."

These verses say that salvation is a gift that you cannot earn by good deeds for salvation comes by faith. No doubt salvation is a gift, but faith is not the gift. Salvation is the gift. Faith is how you receive the gift. To say that faith is the gift is to suggest something else that what this passage suggests.
